  1. Big BIG fan of the ol' H&H's. Have several of every color and style. Caught a TON of nice bass on them and have never....NOT ONCE EVER...put the hook on correctly the first time.
  2. I could go out with one frog and rod, one spinner bait and rod, and one pack of white and one pack of Grn Pumpkin Senko's (spinning rod) and cover 98% of the fishing I currently do. The rest (and I mean ALL the rest) is just for the rare times none of the above is working.
  3. Yep...original. Works like a champ
  4. I'm the greatest angler in the world. My world, that is. I enjoy every single outing. I catch fish, I learn new techniques, I try things out. I can read the conditions decently and I rarely get skunked any more. I'm a better than average frogger. Will that make me money or win me a tournament? Doubt it. Care? Nope. I don't use electronics, I never take pictures, and my phone isn't even with me when I'm on the water. I buy decent gear and take care of it. I battle the bait monkey and as I've gotten older, win most of those battles. Not all! I tinker around with building a bass boat from an old jon boat and it works pretty good. I tow that with a 1968 Ford F100 that I also tinker around with. While doing all that, I listen to vintage stereo equipment which I ALSO tinker with and rebuild. You put ALLLLLL that together and you have a 50 year old guy that is pretty d**n satisfied with life and has enough to keep him busy. I'd say that makes me the greatest angler in Jade's world. (But I always try to be better!)
  5. 40 will be fine and will allow you to tie on some 12 lb fluoro for a leader if you wish but I am going to warn you...if you catch the froggin bug...you WILL be buying a dedicated rod. It's the crack cocaine of fishing!
  6. Scumfrog Trophy Series 5/8 oz Natural Green/Black. One of the cheapest and one of the best. Something about that plop they make when they land. They don't walk or "finesse" fish well. This is a frog for the heavy stuff. They cause a ruckus and get hammered. All the colors are good but I've caught more fish on this than all the others combined. I also use Booyah and Live Target. They are fine lures but this one just does it for me. i usually keep about 10 of them in stock at any one time as I throw them into HEAVY cover and will dangle them from branches and everything else. Losing a $5 frog hurts way less that a $10 one and they flat out catch fish. I do absolutely nothing to them. Out of the package and onto my line and bombs away!
  7. Use 2 handed cast all the time but I also do a lot of bombing frogs out over big mats. If I'm in close, chances are I'm using a spinning rod or a sidearm cast or a flip
  8. Rod is fine. You MUST change lines. I personally have used as low as 30 lb braid to frog in HEAVY slop and had no issues so I don't necessarily agree with others that are saying 65 lb or whatever. Use 45-50lb. 15 lb mono will NOT work for frogging, period. I have actually found braid backlashes to be easier to deal with than mono or fluoro but maybe that's just me. I can almost guarantee that next year you will want a dedicated frog rod....but it can wait.
  9. Dude is crazy good
  10. Meh.....who cares? Wanna watch fishing videos? knock yourself out. A few are great. Most are unwatchable to my 50 yr old eyes and ears. I have an old flip phone. I've never taken a picture of a fish I have caught, let alone made a video. I just don't give any poops whether YOU see me catch a fish and can't imagine that you would be interested in seeing me do so. I just fish. Get off my lawn!
  11. Diawa Tatula TAT741HFB. Notice this is not the XT. I LOOOVE mine. If you do some digging, you can them pretty cheap online
  12. 1.) 2.) Everything else
  13. I'm gonna agree with Bluebasser here......the O Brand stuff is great......especially the tubes. I don't buy a ton of stuff from them but I'm always satisfied when I do.
  14. Bluebasser86 is your man. He uses the Pflueger BC's and loves them. I've been meaning to try one out just based on his recommendation.
  15. Why do people pay a million dollars for a Ferrari? Because they can and that represents value to them. To me, the biggest question is, "Why on earth would anyone care what someone else pays for a bass rod?"
  16. 90% of the time, I'm throwing a spinnerbait, it's an H&H. Love em and caught a ton of fish on them I'm pretty partial to Orange/Brown. Not even kidding. Also.....If you pay $1.99 you are paying too much...lol
  17. I have found that if the water is below 32 deg F, the baits have a tendency to rest on top of the water
  18. Scumfrog Trophy Series. Learn it....Know it....Live it. This is the Best frog on the market for the heavy stuff. If you are fishing light pad fields or want to "walk" a frog in open water. This isn't it...but then again, I don't really consider that froggin. Gimme the heavy mats where if you get a blow up, it's hand to hand combat. If that's what you're in to...this is the frog you want
  19. Either you've only broken one of these rules or you are the biggest jerk walking.
  20. I guess it depends on what kind of froggin you're doing but if you're in the heavy stuff and wanting to haul out some big girls I can't imagine it gets any better than the Tatula Frogging Rod....TAT741HFB. It's light, will throw a HBF a mile and, most importantly, won't let you down when the fighting gets heavy. As far as the reel....Buy the FASTEST quality reel you can. Put some 45 lb Power Pro on it and get ready for some fun
  21. If you are on Facebook check out SS Custom Jigs. Dude has made a bunch of Hair jigs for me in the colors I wanted. Very well made and inexpensive. He's branched into Spinner baits and other stuff, too. I'll be getting some soon.
  22. You use a frog rod for your basic fishing needs? Good Lord.....as much as I love my Tat Frog Rod, I can't imagine using it for much more than that. It's like fishing a broom handle. I doubt it would even load up with anything under 1/2 oz or so.
  23. You'll be fine. Get out of your head and go fish.
