Fishing Scissors
I purchased some stainless steel split ring pliers that have replaceable cutting blades on the side. They work amazing for everything including braid. They come in a belt holster and can do everything you need and are not heavy at all.

Added A Crate Today
1st of all I'm sorry u haven't got any responses yet. I think your setup looks great! I just put a crate on my yak this week myself. I would recommend looking on youtube for anchor system ideas. Lots of guys use a rope system for this, good luck.

Drop Shot Line Breakage
I can speak to running the tag end back through the hook eye, I do this to get the hook to stand straight out from the line. I actually learned this from watching a KVD video where he said this is the technique he uses. My other thought is that because you are breaking off close to your hook/knot then there is a good chance that you may be stressing the line when tying. My best advice is to watch a couple of close up videos on tying the palomar knot and try to perfect the technique. One thing I learned is to try to keep the knot very loose until I have pulled the loop through the knot. Then cinch it down. I can sometimes see when I don't keep the knot loose where my fluro is actually flattened or stressed next to the knot, I of course retie.

Respooling Kids Reel?
My experience with a couple of these when my kids were younger is that getting a soft manageable line is the key. These reels have a tendency to put some pretty major curls in your line! I didn't use KVD line and lure spray back then buy I would think it would be a great help with this problem as well.

Wife's Tales...
I was always told as a kid that once you cut a nightcrawler in half you cannot put it back in the box as it will poison the rest.

Wife's Tales...
I used to have a friend that everytime somebody would say something like this he would try to act dumb and say "I don't understand, can you please draw me a diagram." It almost never got old!

How Many Fish Have You Caught So Far?
I am sitting just north of 20. A couple have bee 3 to 3.5 range, but they have gotten consistently smaller over the last week. I think my honey hole is already getting smart on me!

Deer Whistles On Truck - Work Or Not?
I read an article about 7 years ago that was based on a study to proved the deer whistles have no positive effect. Here is a link to a short story from a local news station from 2012. http://www.kake.com/news/goodquestion/headlines/Good-Question-Do-Deer-Whistles-Work--178039181.html Sorry to hear about your accident, glad it wasn't more significant and you still got to go fishing! How was your day on the water?

Best States To Live In For Bass Fishing
Let me just settle this question right now. The best state to fish in is the one you currently in! Sure Okeechobee (SP) is hot right now and lake fork is a rockin place to be, but I live in Kansas by golly and so Im happy to fish here because it's home! Now the second I move to florida some day Kansas will be dead to me...haha..but for now the best state for me is Kansas.

Mishandling Bass
You gave an emotional response to this topic and I understand that, but to me emotion doesn't play a role in how we should treat a fish, facts and common sense should. If the facts didn't tell us that fish often die days later from being mishandled, then I wouldn't be writing this right now, but guess what, the facts do say that. What I would recommend is you taking some time to step away from peoples conjecture and opinion, and read a great In-Fisherman book about bass fishing that was written in the 1990's. They have a section of the book that deals with just what we are talking about here today, the proper way to handle a bass and what their studies have show you should and more importantly NOT do to take care of any fish you catch. A few of the rules from this book off the top of my head are as follows: 1) Wet your hands before holding the bass body to prevent the slime coating form breaking down. 2) 30 Sec. is the golden rule, keep a bass out longer and his chance of survival starts to go down, stay inside the 30 sec. and its a 99.9% chance the bass will live. 3) Never hold a bass anything buy vertically, meaning straight up and down, by holding the jaw/lip. You must support the basses full weight with your other hand if you want to hold it horizontally. (Please note this is my pet peeve and also something you see a lot of pros do on TV when they should know better. When holding a bass by its jaw and cranking on it the extra pressure or weight can tear the fabric of their jaw, oftentimes the angler doesn't even know they have done it and in severe cases the bass can no longer eat well and he slowy starves of the next few weeks. So just because you see the fish swim away doesn't mean he is just fine. 4) No face punches....haha. ok that one was just to see if your still reading. All in all we owe it to mother nature, and we owe it to each other to learn the best way to handle and car for a beatiful creature like a bass, so that we can have better fisheries in the future.

I Can't Believe I Heard This
Sounds like you need to have her write a 5 page essay detailing the history and quality purpose that reel has served. She will probably buy you another one once she has come to her censes.

College Budget Kayak/boats/float Tubes? Do They Exist?
Darn it, everyones advise is so good it will be hard for me to add to it. I recently did a full market reach project when trying to make a kayak decision similar to yours. Here is what I concluded: sit on top is a must have, 10ft min. For stability. I lucked out and bought a pelican 116 with paddle for $200 from craigslist. Now it is a basic kayak, doesn't track perfect, but has lots of storage, is stable, and easy to load and store. Also the real beauty of a yak is how u can go is shallow small water areas others cant, and that you can make your kayak as fancy as u want with lots of accessories. One accessory o would recommend is an anchor line system that is easily made and used for wind issues. You can get easy instructions and tips on how to modify your kayak eight here on BR or on youtube.

Recommend Me A Kayak
You should look into a nucanoe. I just have a pelican castaway 116, it gets the job done. But my next purchase will be a nucanoe.

Buff Gloves Clearance Alert, Academy Sports.
Like the title says, I found 2 pairs of Buff brand gloves on super clearance at Academy Sports tonight. They were regularly priced at $26.99 and one pair was marked down to $4.98, the other was $2.98. The Buff headgear was NOT on sale though. I found these gloves over by the watersports isle on an end cap, thought maybe they would be on sale at some other locations in case anybody is in the market for them. Good luck!

First Time Baitcaster...how Much Line Do I Put On?
I have always read 1/8 inch and 10lb minimum for a baitcaster. This has worked well for me in the past.
-
Is This A Good Deal?
99% chance its a scam. There would have to be a super good backstory, and I would have to be an expert on these reels before I gave that kind of money for a reel from a stranger thru craigslist.

Kayak Fishing Spooking Fish
I am super jealous, I am in a pelican right now and would like to move into a nucanoe at some point.

Fluoro Or Mono
I use fire line cause it casts a mile. I always put a fluoro leader on it however.

Left Over Line
First of all what a great problem to have right? Nothing worse than re spooling and knowing ur a little short when done. I keep all my line stored indoors in a zip lock so that's where I keep the bits and usually use them for kid projects. We did an underwater sea life diorama last year and ended up using spare line to hang sharks, sting rays etc. It turned out great.

How Is Bass Pro On Used Reel Exchanges?
Here is the best bet: Make a phone call first, explain to them that you love bps and during the winter picked up 2 new reels on sale. You just used them both for the first time and one of them is great but the other sorely lacking. If the person Says they can't help you then you can always wait some time and call back and talk to a different associate. It's always easier to do a return when u can name an associate that told u the return would be ok.

Popularity Of Kayaks
To me there is no question that a sit on top is way better for fishing.

What To Throw
I'm thinking jerkbait or a tight wiggle 4ft or deeper crank. I would try a color crank that reflects the natural forage.
