If you can afford a new combo then yes. A moderate action rod helps by absorbing some of the force when you hook set or when the fish pulls.

I use ewg on thicker plastics and worm hooks on thinner ones, just put your bait up to the hook and see if their is enough bend or hook left to catch the fish. a circle hook or octopus circle in 1 or 1/0 works for me with wacky rigs.

I mainly throw a few colors on swim jigs green pumpkin and pear/white. Same with chatter baits I throw a blacknblue or white/pearl. Might mix it up and add some jjs chartreuse to the green pumpkin or white/pearl on the tails or tip of craws. Most of the forage fish around here are shad and bluegill so it's easy to match.

Try flushing your old bearings out a giving it a light drop of oil. I wouldn't trust it if it was way cheaper than boccas site prices. For the price of bearings and pliers I'd just buy a better reel.

My dad didn't need a belt to whoop me but it made his job easier, you don't need a moderate taper for cranking but it sure does help.
