  1. What a day on the water! Congrats.
  2. The day after "The Decision" LeBron, Wade, and Bosh had a celebration in Miami where LBJ famously said they would win "Not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5, not 6, not 7..." championships. The self-proclaimed King predicted 8 championships, and the crowd went crazy. They had won exactly zero games at this point. I don't see how anybody outside of the state of Florida can stand rooting for this team. Thank you Dallas!
  3. I've never seen a bass with markings like that. Is the light just hitting it funny, or do you catch a lot that are maked up like that? Great fish regardless of the weight. Dan
  4. You'll save a lot of money by sticking with a hand controlled trolling motor over a foot controlled. You can mount a hand controlled motor on the bow for better control just by removing a screw and flipping the head around. Realistically you can get by fine with a $100, #30 thrust model, the brand doesn't really matter. They're all ok, none are great. I still use a #30 thrust on my 14 footer and will until it stops working. If you have more money, buy more motor. If you don't just buy a cheap one, get the longest lasting battery you can afford and remember to charge it after every trip.
  5. Your determination paid off. I think most folks would have left when the boat quit working. That is a fat, healthy fish.
  6. craigslist.org should have you covered.
  7. Man I wish I could help you. I do hope that when I'm older and in poor shape my daughters find a way to get me out on the water. The problem with a canoe, or any narrow boat, is that when you put in a taller seat you raise the center of gravity and the boat becomes less stable. A wider, more stable boat is obviously your best bet, but can you afford it, tow it, store it? That's a lot to consider. I will say that I have a friend who's father-in-law is in his 80s. He recently bought a brand new pontoon boat, not because he wanted a pontoon, but because his fishing buddies are in poor shape and a pontoon is the only way he could figure to get them out on the water. Too cool. Good luck and I home you figure out something that works for you and your dad.
  8. Finally! After talking about it for a while, Ed (Senile 1), and I finally got together for a little fishing. Ed had a hectic Saturday schedule driving from the Kansas City area to Kentucky Lake (by way of my favorite strip pit lake in Southern Illinois) then a big u-turn back to Sikeston, Missouri. When we finally got out on the water the temperature was in the 40s and the wind was blowing pretty hard. Ed managed the first decent fish of the day when this fat 3lb 6oz bass fell for a jig n craw. A little bit later this 5lb 3oz largemouth swallowed my favorite little white Rapala crankbait. She certainly had the shoulders of a bigger fish but appeared to already be spawned out. In about 2 hours we managed to boat around 20 fish. Some were shallow, some on drop-offs. Ed caught ‘em on a jig, spinnerbait, and a Rage Anaconda. I pretty much stuck to my 4 foot diving crankbait. It was great to finally meet Ed and get out on the water…hope to do it again soon.
  9. I heard that, but I didn't really follow it. That makes more sense. Thanks.
  10. My first thought was "that guy's gonna shoot his d!@k off!" What floors me about this video is that they appear to have a manned camera down range as he shoots at the 2 balloons. From the age of the video and the movement of the camera it's pretty obvious that it's not remote controlled. If this is real, and I suppose it is,somebody's got a lot more faith in Bob than I would. To this day, the fastest gun I've ever seen in person was Jerry Miculek.
  11. When I fish alone, I’m more likely to fish bigger baits in search of that one big bite. But when I’m fishing with a friend and he’s catching bass, the competitive side of me comes out and I just want to catch something…no matter the size.
  12. Thanks Mike. Always enjoy your show and looking forward to watching this tonight.
  13. Ditto on the bluegill guess. I lose a lot of curly tails and pinchers off rage craws to bluegill. Bass inhale the bait. Bluegill nip.
  14. If I accidentally cast over a branch, I'll jerk the bait up and down in the water with the hopes of getting bit. Once I cast deep into a tree and thought I was hung up bad. I gave a desperation jerk and the bait came flying back at me. I ducked out the way and it flew past me into the lake behind me and was promptly inhaled.
  15. Depends on the model. New Advantage spinning reels retail for around $130 and up. The regular Advantage baitcast reel retailed under $100 if I remember correctly, but I'm not sure if they still make those. The Advantage HSTA is a super tuned version of the Advantage and retails for around $170. If the reel in question is an HSTA, that's a great price. I can't speak for the spinning reel, but the Advantage baitcaster is one of my favorites. Great casting distance and very smooth, though not as small as other reels for the same price.

  17. Whatever you get, check it once in a while. I fill an empty 1 gallon milk jug with water and weigh it. Should weigh close to 8.35 pounds.
  18. Wow!! Great day for Kansas, or anyplace else in the midwest. The wind was brutal here yesterday...gusts in the mid to upper 40s. You're a braver man than I.
  19. So you flip out and tackle the family pet. She flips out on you. You call the police. The fisherman cop gets offended and writes her hundreds in tickets. All because of a 2 pound bass. Are there any adults in Massachusetts?
  20. So instead of just being a grammer cop, Long Mike is now the chief of police? Congrats on the promotion Mike! ...you, too Nate!
  21. Great fish, pic, and story.
  22. If you don't want it...I'll take it.
  23. What's he asking for the rig with the motor? I saw a 2005 on Craigs List last week for $1,100 and thought that sounded fair. Maybe 8 or 9 hundred for a 99, maybe less. Tough call.
  24. Trees in bloom, Crappie loom.
