  1. So I have 2 new Abu Garcia Revo Rockets but they don't have line on them yet. I went fishing today with my friend and used my Abu Garcia Revo SX with a 6:4:1 gear ratio. I caught about 7 bass on topwater walking the dog and lost about 3. One was a really big bass. I was using a KVD Sexy Dawg most on all of my losses and the hooks are super sharp on this brand new lure. On the ones I lost, I set the hook pretty solidly and as I attempted to reel in the slack to set the hook again the fish would be gone. I kept the rod high with a lot of bend in it as to keep the pressure on the fish but they still got off. And I had reeled like a madman to get the slack in. I think if I had had a faster gear ratio I could have taken up the slack quicker and set the hook again and not lost those fish. Am I wrong to think that?
  2. It says it on the Power Pro website and I've read it other places.
  3. Update: Went fishing today after charging the batteries. Last time the batteries had been charged about a week prior. Everything worked great....except when I went to speed 10 the same problem happened. At 9 speed and below it worked fine. When I checked all of the connections before I went out it seemed to me that the connection from the pedal to the TM wasn't all the way in, so I pushed that in farther and tightened it up. This wouldn't explain why the remote couldn't get it up to 10 speed yesterday though. What do you think?
  4. Over the years I've probably caught about 5 fish total with my Zara Spook. And I only caught fish on the initial splashdown, never on the walking the dog retrieve back. My friend and I went fishing today. This time only 3 hit it on the initial splashdown and the rest were on walking the dog back. Well, I made an order from Tackle Warehouse and ordered 2 KVD Sexy Dawgs as they were on sale. I liked the fact that they had the bearings inside that make noise, the regular Zara Spook I have does not have this feature. Well, I went fishing today with my friend and we both fished Sexy Dawgs. His was in pearl I think and mine was in perch. I had about 10 fish on the line and boated 7. My friend lost 2 I think. I did fish mine a lot longer then he fished his though. It went from glass to a little bit windy back to glass. The fish seemed to bite when the water was broken up a little bit by the chop as people on here said they would. It was a great time. However, every once and awhile my line would get tangled up with the front treble. I was wondering if anyone removes the front treble or if it would effect the hookup ratio or balance of the lure. What do you think?
  5. So you put one piece that covers the entire spool and then tie your line over the tape? What type of tape do you use?
  6. I saw that a lot of people use backing or tape prior to putting their braid on. I guess this is for cushion (don't know why that's important), helping make the braid lay on smooth, longer casts (one pro states that he can fast considerably farther with mono backing under braid - not sure if this is true or not), and so the like doesn't slip on the spool. I've had Gander Mountain or Cabelas spool all of my braid line and I've never had my spool slip. Granted I've always fished when it was hot out, not cold. So my spool didn't shrink at all. If you have a wiffle spool and go through the holes in the spool to tie your not, isn't it impossible to have your braid slip? If it is necessary I was wondering about using electrical tape and how many times you go around the spool?
  7. So I bought a used 2000 Crestliner Fishhawk. The owner said it had some type of big commercial gel deep cycle or something for the TM that he got from a friend who works at Comcast. He said it was about 2-3/4 years old. It's quite big. Longer than your average battery. I grabbed a new battery from my dad's place but it had been sitting at his place for who knows how many years, maybe up to 5-8. So I used them as a 24v system last year and worked great. I left it plugged in all winter on my Dual Pro 3 bank charger that has trickle charge/maintain. I took my boat out today and the trolling motor worked fine until you put it up past 6 speed where it would keep stopping and going. At the highest speed it just wouldn't spin. Now it wasn't turning on and off, just not running. Roll it back down to under 6 speed and it ran fine. It also worked fine with the remote, but same problem, not past 6 speed. I have a 2000 Mercury 115 horse 2 stroke and a 80lbs Terrova. So, is this a battery issue or a TM issue? I figure I probably need batteries and if I so the questions are: 1.) Where can I get good, value priced batteries? (I need 3 and I'm not rich) 2.) What brand of battery should I get? 3.) What kind of battery should I get? (Should all 3 batteries be the same kind? Or do I want a different kind for the main motor starter) 4.) What kind of batteries should I get? (Deep cycle or cranking)?
  8. I always use sunscreen and have never noticed a problem.
  9. So I have a color challenge for you and a friend or you by yourself. If you're by yourself just fish part of the time with the dark lure and part of the time with the light lure color. No matter what you're fishing, if you're fishing with a friend, both of you fish the same exact lure but one dark and one light colored and note the conditions such as stained water and sunny day. ex: Both of you fishing Spro frogs and one uses a white belly and the other uses a black belly. Or a dark colored spinnerbait and light colored spinnerbait. Post your results. I'd be really interesting to see what the outcomes are.

As a trailer do you shorten it at all?
  11. I love Ragetail Toads and they catch fish, but their legs get nipped off. Can't glue what's not there. lol. I'm sure Ragetail loves it though, guaranteed return customers.
  12. Why do you like the UA over the Columbia?
  13. Dang! I got the wrong ones! What are the action frog legs for?
  14. I think match the hatch was meant to apply to fly fishing.
  15. Since you don't wear a buff do you use sunscreen on your face?
  16. You guys are killing me! I just bought 2 of these in the 2.75 size like you. One dark belly and one white belly. FYI. They are on sale at Cabelas from $9.99 to 6.49.
  17. Ultra-light spinning rods are extremely successful. They can be used for smaller fish like sunfish, crappies, and smaller bass but they can also be used for larger fish like largemouth, walleyes, and others for more of a challenge and a better fight vs. a traditional set up. So, what about marketing an ultra-light baitcasting set up for bass? It could add a lot of fun to catching fish.
  18. I think I will get some of these.....damnit!!!!
  19. I know irod makes the Bub Tosh punching rod.
  20. So I started a thread on why people are wearing UV facemasks, shirts, and gloves instead of just using sunscreen. I got a lot of replies. Now I have a new question. For those of you that are going the new route of clothing over sunscreen, to what extend do you wear this clothing? Do you wear the full gambit of hat, glasses, mask, long sleeve shirt, long pants, gloves and shoes? Do you wear just the hat, mask, long sleeve shirt, and then shorts and flip flops? Just wondering what those that don't use sunscreen do to protect themselves when fishing. What brand gear do you use?
  21. You mean the Seiberts punch jig is the way to go?
