  1. I just posted this reply in a hollow body frog thread but could help you out with your shore fishing problems. The Whopper Frog is pretty much 100% weedless: Best thing I did to start catching fish on frogs was to modify them and turn them into Homemade Teckel Sprinker Frogs aka the Weedless Whopper Plopper. All it is is a paddle tail frog. Prior to this I fished for about 8 years with regular hollow body frogs and only caught some fish and I can successfully walk the dog. Fishing the same lakes and locations with the Homemade Sprinker frog shot my success up to like 90% over regular hollow body frogs and they are cheap and easy to modify. It’s also super easy to use. Just cast and reel in. You can pause but most of the time I catch fish on a straight retrieve. Here is the link on how to make them. I think once you do this your success could be so great you may never throw another regular hollow body frog again. https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/205493-initial-thoughts-review-of-teckel-sprinker-frog-vs-booyah-toad-runner-vs-homemade-teckel-sprinker-frog/?tab=comments#comment-2331638

  3. Well, according to WRB the Roberts Mudpuppy from the 1930’s is the original and everything after that is a copy including the Joe Bucher Top Raider and Whopper Plopper. I got two Choppo’s on sale for a total of $10 which is still less than one Whopper Plopper. So, I’ll have to try them side-by-side with a friend. Plus, for many people $13 for a lure is too expensive.
  4. Now that this lure has been out or awhile wondering who really likes it or doesn't like it? Better than the Whopper Plopper, anyone gonna stop using the WP and switch to the Berkeley Choppo? What are your thoughts?
  5. I bought like a 100 pack from Tacklewarehouse a few years back. I don't believe they were seconds. Haven't seen them since.
  6. Haven't had any trouble with snagging weeds. Did realize that a straight retrieve is the best way to use these, just like the WP. That's why I think the WP and Homemade Sprinker Teckel Frog are two of the best topwater lures out there, simply cast and reel in, that's all you need to do. Also, a lot of fish bite it if you just let it sit on the initial splashdown.
  7. Tried both, straight retrieve gets 'em almost 99% of the time.
  8. WP 110 was my favorite until the 75 came out. Perfect size and is heavy so casts just as far as the 110, like a bullet, but doesn’t feel as heavy.
  9. The Choppo? Already? Patent infringement or something?
  10. I just bought 2 from Cabelas on sale for $5.97 (Cabelas instead of BP bc in-store pickup is free)......they are the 3-1/2" size though, so I don't know what that is compared to the WP. What size is the WP equivalent to the Choppo 3-1/2"?
  11. Thanks! Looks like I’ll be buying one Choppo 120 for testing purposes. FYI: Dicks has Whopper Ploppers on sale for $10-13. And $20 off of $100. Sale ends tonight. I had had to buy work boots for $99 and needed to add something to make it $100 even. I added two Whopper Plopper 75’s at $10 each for a total of $20 bucks and basically got the two lures for free. Can’t complain about that!
  12. Looks like I have to pick up at least one Choppo 120, dangit!!! Not a common problem with the 110’s. Mostly really only a problem with the 90’s. The 75’s came out which was similar to a 90 size and sized that problem.
  13. I found an old post about the Whopper Plopper vs. the Berkeley Choppo but haven’t been able to find anything on here that is recent. Also, my favorite WP size is 75 followed by the 110. What size Choppo is closest to the WP 75 size? Does anyone have any recent reviews of the Whopper Plopper vs. the Choppo?
  14. I want to get 2 of my Abu Garcia Revo Rocket baitcasting reels cleaned. I just don't have the time or wherewithal to do it, I would most likely lose pieces or not be able to put it back together properly. I called a local place, Thorne Bros and they don't service Abu Garcia and if they did it would have been $25-$30 to clean each reel. I was thinking $10-$15 each reel (maybe I'm being unrealistic). Anyone know of anywhere? Thanks in advance.
  15. If you can't put in permanent chargers I'd use this. I have used this for a few years on my starting battery, no problems. And only $17. Maybe someone will say these are bad, I don't know. https://www.amazon.com/BLACK-DECKER-BM3B-Automatic-Maintainer/dp/B0051D3MP6/ref=asc_df_B0051D3MP6/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198093653755&hvpos=1o2&hvnetw=g&hvrand=11131349938213414801&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9060340&hvtargid=pla-357964576938&psc=1
  16. Good to know! How did you clean the terminals?
  17. One of the best things I did was buy sealed Cabelas deep cycle batteries on sale. Now I never have to do any maintence to the batteries and they will never leak. On sale it came to around $100 each I believe which is the same price as regular batteries. I now need to replace my starting battery and I will buy a sealed battery for that also. Also, your if your motor has an alternator to charge the starting battery you need to use the big motor enough to charge it. I found that out the hard way. When I fish I use the big motor to get to my spots and then the TM 98% of the time. It wasn't enough to charge the big motor and next time I went out my boat wouldn't start because the starting battery didn't have enough juice. The boat had a 2 bank charge which charges the trolling motor batteries. I bought at $15 Black and Decker charger to charge the starting battery and that has worked great for years. If you can afford and have space I'd get 2 deep cycles for the TM and 1 starting battery.
  18. Yes worth it. Love mine. Love auto stow/deploy too.

We've used these for years with great success. I used to use the standard ones but we started using the swivel ones a few years ago.
  20. Whopper Plopper 110 and 75 everywhere unless it's weedy. If I can't use that because of weeds I use a Homemade Whopper Frog (Booyah Padcrasher with Teckel Sprinker Frog Tail). Colors don't matter. I almost always fish with a friend and we use light and dark and both catch fish. The Whopper Plopper and Whopper Frog have really killed it for us the last couple of years. I have used a ton of different topwaters but these two are far above the rest, I don't even throw buzzbaits or other topwaters anymore.
  21. I use these on all of my baitcasting rods. Much stronger than regular snap swivels. Haven't lost one in years (knock on wood).
  22. I only use homemade Whopper Frogs now but I basically field tested most of the major frogs and found Booyah Pad Crashers to be the best. Luckily they are also one of the cheapest.
  23. I don't because I like moving the pedal to the left or right side of the deck depending what side I am fishing. I use the rod holder tiedown to strap the pedal down in rough waters or when towing the boat on the trailer.
