  11. Sounds like a great light topwater rod. Ronnie
  12. Get a heavy fast 7'+ rod for pitching. You can throw frogs with it also. Ronnie
  13. What you must be careful about is breaking the rod when you cast it. If your lure is too heavy you will overload the rod if you cast with any force. I have done this and it will break your heart. Ronnie
  14. The pope was touring a California forest before heading back overseas. As he rode along in his pope mobile he came upon an environmental activist wearing a "Sierra Club" jacket with a P.E.T.A. patch on it. All at once to everyone's surprise, a grizzly bear leaped out of the thicket and attacked the tree hugging environmentalist. The pope was amazed to see two hunters dressed in camo, come to the rescue. One hunter quickly shot the bear in the head with a 44 Mag pistol and as the big bear turned loose of his prey the other hunter shot the bear dead with his rifle. They quickly loaded the bear in the back of the truck and helped the poor wounded PETA member into the back seat of the truck. The pope was impressed by this good Samaritan act and proceeded to bless the hunters. The pope said "it's amazing that outdoorsman and environmental fanatics are usually at odds with each other. I am touched by this act of goodwill." And at that they parted company. One hunter said to the other as they were driving down the road. "it was nice of the pope to give us his blessing and all, but he obviously doesn't know much about bear hunting.... By the way, how's our bait doing back there? Is he good for one more? ;D ;D
  15. You didn't say if you are using it on a baitcaster or spinning reel. If you use it on a baitcaster, I would step it up to 50lb PP. The larger diameter will behave better and will come closer to matching the diameter of your backing and leader. 50lb PP and 12lb mono are very close in diameter, joining knots will hold better if diameters are the near the same. 20. I turned a lawyer friend of mine on to fly fishing for bluegill. He offered to buy my fly rod several times that day. I ended up giving him an old set I had. We must have caught 200 gills, pumpkins & perch. Some were nice, some were tiny, but they were all a blast. I always carry a fly rod along in case I need a morale boost. Ronnie
  21. Thanks for the heads up Jimzee! There are only 20 chalets and 15 cabins in the park, so it stands to reason they would fill up quick. Bear in mind that there are 110 rooms and suites in the lodge, so you still have a chance to get a nice room, but I wouldn't wait till the last minute. I will try to help members get paired up and find accomodations untill the end of February. Send me a PM or post on this thread if you need any help. After March 1, it's every man for himself. LOL With a little planning, this can be a very inexpensive fishing trip that you couldn't find anywhere else for any price. JMHO Ronnie
  22. Robert, It's a big reason why I fish with Loomis. I have had several rods replaced under their warranty and it has always been "no questions asked". The rods are awesome to fish with also. Ronnie
  23. I guess I understand why he doesn't want to be "nominated", but like Muddy said, he is still in my elite book. He has serviced my reels, given me great advice on reel maintenance, lots of rod building tips. Although he is a sponsor on the site, he is always willing to give FREE advice and share many years of valuable experience with fellow members. I appreciate your input David! Ronnie
  24. Loomis CR724C 6' heavy for accuracy casting. Loomis MB844C 7' heavy for open water and pitching in heavy cover. Ronnie
  25. What makes a man?...... What he does, thinks, feels and decides when no one can see him. Maturity is when what you NEED becomes more important than what you WANT. JMHO Ronnie
