  1. Fished 6 mile Saturday and half day Sunday. Saturday was brutal on me. 2 fish, first bite at 2:44 in the afternoon. Was a nice day. Sunday morning was a little better. Had 6 fish Sunday. I think I was just trying to get them to do what I wanted them to do. All fish were good solid 2-3 lb fish. I would have loved to stay the whole week this week.
  2. Yea Mike, hope all is going well. I will try to get to Toledo bend Wednesday night, Thursday at the latest. Hope we can get a few more guys to show up.
  3. We had a good time last year. Hope we get a good turnout. We didn't have a tournament last year so its really show up and have a good time. We did eat too much.
  4. Had 19 fish total Saturday, a few throwbacks. Most were solid fish but no large fish. Sunday 8 fish, quit at noon. Had a little breeze blowing most of the weekend. First trip in a couple of months so it was all good. I don't think I'll be skipping many weekends for the next few months. If Ya'll see a white and charcoal BassCat with a Yamaha, say hello. I fish from Paulo Gaucho down to Mill but am usually in Six Mile or Housen,or just outside that area.
  5. Made me go dig up some old reading material. Probably time for a refresher course, thanks for the reminder.
  6. Good report, thanks. Dipping the tail has been working all year for me. I guess it helps in when the water is off a little. I think I will pour the next batch with the tails chartreuse and some orange for the spring. Looks like high water again.
  7. Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. Its time to start getting serious now. Cleaning out the boat of 100 lbs of plastic I never use. Seems like I do that every year.
  8. Hot Chocolate or Coffee comes to mind. I use most of the same lures all year. Basically I slow down, maybe bulk up the lure a little. Maybe instead of a rage craw trailer on a jig I'll use something with more bulk and less action. I do keep a jig with a rage craw or something similar rigged because from time to time in cold months I catch a few pitching to timber where they nail it on the drop. Suspended I guess. On the other hand I still use jerk baits, rattletraps, crankbaits and spinnerbaits. Depends on the day and conditions. Some days you have to go real sloooow. Then a week later (or the same afternoon) they are crashing a rattletrap. You never know. Wacky worms and senkos unweighted and weighted. I think in the winter its more of a mind set. You have to prepare yourself for slowing down and fewer bites. If you are prepared for a few bites you can really enjoy the winter fishing. And if you get one of those special days, its a treat. If you go out thinking you will get 50 bites the day after a cold front with sub 50 degree water and bluebird skys your expectations are probably set too high, but you never know. If I'm not having any success I tend to just put a jig with a chunk trailer in my hand and just think big. My theory is I fish lures I like to fish and have confidence in. That makes the dry spells a lot more enjoyable. A morning bite and afternoon bite can be very different. After mid January I will probably be there most weekends.
  9. Welcome folks. I guess we will get winter in Feb-March. No problem, unless they start holding in the 70-80 foot ledges. I ain't got that much line on my reels.
  10. Yea, I scratched off this weekend after looking at the weather. Sometimes you just have to scrap the plans and fish where the weather and water allow and adjust to what is going on. I probably won't get back up there til after New Years. Maybe first good weekend after Christmas. I am ready.
  11. All this warm weather has me thinking about a quick trip this weekend.
  12. Agree, I think the fish are more confused than I am.
  13. Yea, It looked like you were looking at something pretty hard
  14. Probably made the last trip to Toledo Bend for the year. Winterized the camp etc. I caught 16 fish Saturday, biggest almost 6lbs. It has been tough for me this fall. After Christmas I'll have to start looking around and getting ready for the trip. I have one date conflict I need to resolve, If I can I'll be there.
  15. BF, there is definitely a lot more bait and fish deeper, but I can't get bit out there. I've been shallow and there are not a ton of fish but I can catch a few there. I guess with the water rising, the generator pulling etc the fish are finding the deeper water more stable? I have been cursing the wind but without it its been dead for me. Think I may have seen you right off the boat lane in Six Mile. I was in a white and charcoal BassCat.
  16. I caught 16 Saturday. Did catch one almost 6. Afternoon was much better. I was going to stay til Sunday but came down with some kind of bug, limped back to the house this morning.
  17. Happy Thanksgiving!! As soon as I choke down a little turkey I'll be on the way up there.
  18. ww, as you know sometimes the fish win. I caught a few fish in that area Saturday. Mostly on a spinnerbait, burning it after the wind picked up. I caught very few deeper but they were nicer fish. Lots of bait deep in the channels Saturday. Once the wind started blowing it limited any movement, especially if it involved the main lake. I don't get mad enough at them to get out in that stuff anymore. The older I get the more I just enjoy being there and taking what it gives me. If that means hunkering down in a quiet cove out of the wind and catching just a few, so be it. I'm gonna give it a try again this weekend and see if I can redeem myself a little.
  19. Thanks Catt, Now I'll go get 6 of each,,that should get me through a couple hrs of getting them hung up.
  20. I caught a couple of nicer fish deep Saturday before the wind started. I did catch a good bit of smaller fish shallow. Like said, saw tons of bait deep in the channels and catching a few on deep flats or bars next to the channels. With that said, there's a lot of bait shallow and back in some coves. I think the fish are like me,,confused. Problem is when the bass get confused they tend to go deeper,,I on the other hand tend to go back to shallow water when I can get bit there. OK, I need some guidance. I'm gonna bite the bullet and learn to fish a spoon. What kind of spoon do I need for 20-30' depths. I am clueless here. I think I will take a half day trip with just a couple of rods rigged with spoons. its hard for me to pick it up when I can hit the banks with a spinnerbait and catch a few. I fished shallow water for a long time and old habits are hard to break.
  21. Well, I hope it is. We will see.
  22. Hey Catt,,,Looks like a November cool breeze for this Saturday.
  23. BF, and Bryan, great reports. I stunk it up this weekend. Caught 4 Saturday morning and 10 Saturday afternoon. Went back Sunday morning and caught 5. Most fish were small, biggest 3.5. I saw a lot of bait and fish deep but could not get a bite (I'll blame it on the wind Saturday, hard to stay on a spot and fish) . Caught all my fish shallow, spinnerbait and worm. But, it sure was a nice weekend.
  24. Good to hear on the numbers. I decided to skip this weekend,,,again. Could not sneak away for Friday and Saturday looks very wet. Should be good fishing before the front. Maybe next weekend.
  25. I am trying to sneak off and get up there this weekend. Gotta get out after the last 2 weekend washouts.
