Two Bassresource.com Road Trips In 2016?

Featured Replies

  • Super User

I'm thinking about organizing two BR road trips for 2016.  The first will be the Second Annual Baked Potato Classic, to be held at Toledo Bend in March.  The second will be for our friends traveling from the North, to be held on Kentucky Lake in May.  As with all previous Road Trips, everyone is invited, novice or pro.  You do not need a boat to attend.  There are always seats available.  Further, women are encouraged to attend with their significant other, or you are welcome to attend alone.  Ladies are always treated as ladies on these trips.

The only difference between these and previous Road Trips is that they are now "unofficial."  Glenn and Keri may or may not attend.  There will be no sponsor giveaways, nor Pro speakers.  Regardless, it will be the annual opportunity for many of us regular attendees to renew old friendships and, most importantly to establish new ones.

I would appreciate your comments before I finalize any plans.

Edit:  Having received all comments, here are the dates and places.

The following are the dates for the Road Trips:

Toledo Bend - The Jack Yates Classic - Arrive Wednesday March 23rd, depart Monday March 28.

We will be staying at the Fin & Feather Resort.  Five rooms have been blocked in the motel.  There are cabins available, but the available beds are limited.

Kentucky Lake - Arrive Wednesday April 27th, depart Monday May 2nd.

We will be staying at Moors Resort and Marina.  Two cabins and five rooms at the Lodge have been blocked.  The cabins will sleep four each.  There are other cabins also available.

Each person must make their own reservation.  When making the reservation you MUST mention that you are with the Bass Resource group.

You may stay a longer or shorter period of time than the dates shown above.  If you need a roommate post it on this forum.

You do not need a boat to attend.  No one will be left standing on the bank.

Not sure I'll be able to do either of those two, but I will be at the Bassmaster's Classic in March at Grand. Maybe try to put something together for guys going to that?

In on both barring cataclysmic events.  Where did y'all stay last time on KYL?  Have that in mind for next year?

Bert, plans are to stay at Moors Resort on Kentucky Lake.  It has all the amenities, plus is on the north end of the lake, allowing easy access to Barkley Lake if the wind doesn't cooperate.

Also, plans are to again stay at the Fin & Feather on Toledo Bend.

I don't think it will happen for me this hear, maybe a few years in the future, but would definitely love to attend a BR event in the future!

God willing and the creek don't rise, I plan on making both. I timed my surgery to be healed up by fishing season up here and was recouping for the first Baked Potato Classic. Missed seeing some and the opportunity to meet others, not to mention a chance to fish that legendary water.

I'll probably be staying in Indian creek at Toledo I know someone that has a camp there with a hydrasport boat

Ooo ya!

Sounds great!

I'm down for both.

Man o man.....I love these bass resource road trips! Now, two bass resource road trips? Somebody pinch me.

The Baked Potato Classic was a blast last year and the 2 previous road trips were fantastic too!

This is very exciting.

The last time the Classic was here.....we all met for dinner.

We should do that a minimum......in addition to the two road trips.

Gonna try and make Toledo Bend, I'm not too far away.

Funny that you should mention this, as I was already seriously thinking of an April 2016 trip.

Original plan was a Sat. 4/23 -to- Sat. 4/30 trip, but I could get talked into a later date.  How does Sat. 5/14 -to- Sat. 5/21 sound?

FYI, I'd probably be making the trip solo this time as the War Dept. is getting a new job and won't have the vacation time.  As long as it doesn't sink, I will be towing a boat, will gladly be willing to pickup someone along the way, and will gladly rent a multi-bedroom cottage if anyone wants to share.

The only bad news is that I couldn't make a trip during the first 10 days of the month.  In a moment of weakness, I have been talked back into my former career on a part-time basis.

I'd be interested in the KY lake trip depending on when it is.  If its mid to late may I will not be able to attend.

Question. My father is not a member can I bring him with me

Yep.

Everyone is welcome, member or not.  The only restriction is that those under eighteen must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

I'm a definite maybe for KY Lake.

I'm in for Toledo Bend, will try to make KY Lake too.

Lucky for me I'm 29. But I still may need adult supervision lol. If you hear me say hold this and watch this just run

Is it a tournament?

No it is not a tournament.  It's just a bunch of folks getting together to visit with old friends, and most importantly, make new ones.  Side bets are optional.

Because I would like to make the Toledo Bend event an annual one, would any of you folks who attended the first Baked Potato Classic have any objection if we changed the name of the event to the Jack Yates Classic?  Many of you who fish the Bend knew him or have at least heard of him.  Jack was a regular contributor to these forums.  He was also a mentor to me and to many others.  He passed away suddenly several years ago and Catt suggested via PM that we rename the event in honor of his contributions to these forums and to the countless people whose lives he has effected.  I fully agree with Catt, but would like to have your input.

Jack (fishfordollars) Yates passed away suddenly on January 18, 2011.

I found out later from his wife that when Jack had joined this site he was in a difficult place in his life, his physical ailments had taken a toll on his mental outlook on life. The friendships he made here both in person and online help him change his entire outlook on life.

We will from time to time step on each others toes, bump each others elbows, & bruise each others egos. I thank Glenn, all the moderators, and sponsors who keep Bassresource not only about sharing information but about friendships, and helping each other by paying it forward.

Thank You & May God Bless!
