So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
My 2 cents on humps is the fish have to have a reason to be there. The most obvious reason to my simple mind is some structure that leads to deeper water. While I have caught a fish or 2 off of isolated humps the majority of the fish I catch on humps is where the hump connects in some way to deeper water. Also, seldom are the nicer fish on top of the hump for me, unless it is matted with grass and they are buried up. A matted hump with a good grass edge and dropping into a 25' or so channel makes me make some casts. They won't be on every one. I'm no expert but that's what I have found. Better minds will be along shortly to help you out.

Kinda quiet in here. Its been a month since my last trip. Once I get the new house squared away I'll get back up there. Never fished there much in the winter but I think this is the year.

I also only peg when punching. I don't peg even pitching grass unless it is matted.

Not as much grass as last year but its out there for sure on the south end. I think the higher water and stained water kept it at bay for a while longer but its coming. That probably kept more fish shallower for longer too.

I can't speak for how others would refer to them. If I was to tell you I was catching fish in Indian Creek it would be the one off the main channel down south. If I was talking about the other one I would say indian creek off housen or would just say coves in the back of Housen. As with any body of water there are lots of names not on the maps, or on the maps in a couple of places and different names for the same places. Some of the experts can probably help more. Also, if I say I am catching fish somewhere you better go there because they are jumping in the boat to commit suicide.

If you are asking if there is an Indian Creek off Housen Bayou in the back and another Indian Creek on the south end the short answer is yes.

Mike, Toledo Bend is HOT right now. Not the fishing as much as the temp. Just checked the weather here and it said 104 and feels like 120. I think i will nap til 5 or so.

I had a tough weekend too. Caught some at dark Friday and that was the only real action. Saturday was few and far between. On the brighter side I did not find it as hot as predicted. Guess the breeze helped. Of course I fished til 11, went in ate, took a shower and took a nap til 4:30.

I use the fish n chips setting on one card and overlay a navionics card in the other. I think I will add side imaging. It will give me something to do when the fish aren't biting. Anybody save their own imaging maps?

BF, you did a lot better than me. I had a 7 on Friday late on a crankbait and she threw it on the 4th jump. I'll take that, she was going back anyway and I got a good look at her. Other than that I scrapped around and caught 10-12 fish per trip Friday afternoon and Saturday Morning. Didn't fish long Saturday afternoon and found it kinda dead. In 2 hrs I had 2 bites so I packed it in. Wind kicked my butt where I was trying to fish and after a couple of fish threw the crankbait I slowed down as much as the wind allowed. They just were not eating it and barely catching the rear hooks. Where is that anchor Catt has been telling us about??? Most fish on plastics or a football jig with a senko trailer. I don't know that I was on much, seems like I tend to loose touch with them after 20'. To me it seems like they are moving up to 15-20 feet from time to time but after that I can't seem to locate them. Probably going to get back at them this weekend and bringing the anchor just in case. By the way,,those fishing early and late don't for get the running lights. They are checking for them.

Two Bassresource.com Road Trips In 2016?
I can't speak for everyone that was on the trip this year. I think that is a great idea to name it for someone that contrubuted so much to this site. It would be a small token of appreciation that would honor his memory for a long time to come. Might even be a good opportunity for those of us who did not have the pleasure of meeting him to get to know a little about him. Mike, we have plenty time to plan a nice event. I can't make a whole week but should be able to be there for weekends and maybe a couple of days during the week. Let me know if I can help with anything, I have a travel trailer a few miles from Fin and Feather and I'm up there 2 or 3 times a month. By the way, thanks for planning the last one. We all had a great time.

Glad the tournament went well. Looks like some good stringers too. I did not do well this weekend, could not get bit much on the deeper stuff i've been fishing. Maybe the rise pushed them up shallower, I don't know. 9 fish all day saturday. I'll be at the next baked potato classic and like may-early june too. I do think there might be more participation in march. Does not matter to me. I can stink it up any month they choose. Hope we get a good turnout.

Like Fanatic said 20-25 feet. Both spots have a bar that drops into a channel.

I'm catching on 2 spots that I marked last summer. Only caught a few on each spot when I marked them but they are loaded this year. Maybe I'm just understanding them better now.

Had a good day Saturday. Fished from 10 to 4 and caught a good many fish, 40-50 or so. Had 1 almost 6, missed another at the boat that size, and had a 5 and lots of 2's. It was slower this weekend than before so I guess I'm starting to wear out the spot. Probably be back this weekend. I think it seemed slower because the spots were not there, just largemouth. Texas senko, football jig, deep cranks, and a little topwater when they came up. I'm having a ball up there this year. Little fish, you can fish a dropshot any depth. I have fished it down here in stained water 2 feet deep in the spring. I usually go to it on TB when the fish back off deep or when I can't get bit on anything else or when they slow down on a spot you know they are there.

Don't know but Gary Yamamoto is getting richer off of me this year.

You are right Fanatic. When you find them they are stacked up. Made a trip late Friday, one Sat morning and another saturday afternoon. Caught all my fish in one 30 yard stretch. Probably over 150 fish total. Tried a few other places and caught one here and there.

Catt's system of 15' +-3 is a good guideline most of the year. It lets you reach the breaks out deeper and up shallower and puts you around a grass break but you have to listen to the fish and follow some kind of structure. Someone may kill them in 20 feet today but there are more areas of 20 feet depth that don't have any fish than areas that do. I'm not an expert but there is an old saying "the fish have to have cause" to be somewhere. I started catching fish in Toledo bend offshore when I finally started asking myself where are these fish going to or coming from. I started to look hard at areas I always caught a couple of fish, size was not important. Then I looked hard at the maps and idled around a good bit in those areas and sure enough there were things I found that fell in place and led me to the higher percentage areas. After 45 years of shallow water fishing in the basin, I still struggle with Toledo Bend. But I'm learning as I go. Nothing is etched in stone but fish always have a reason to be somewhere. Its a good lake and you can catch a few wandering around aimlessly, but if you do some homework its a lot easier.

Yes, tons of good info here, I have to google that seminar. Thanks for that post Shaneus. Also to Little Fish,,remember you don't have to see it above the water for it to be good. I love the secondary points you can only see with a good map or your electronics. Especially if its directly off the main point.
