  1. Early during weekdays this time of year is your best bet. Party barges and the drinking folk usually aren't out at sunrise, so you always have a few hours of safe travel time. I've fished that lake a lot, and you won't catch me out from 9:30 AM on this time of year. Where he is staying you have to travel the main channel to get anywhere. If you aren't afraid of night fishing, this lake produces some giants at night as well.
  2. Welcome to the area/forum. Check out the KC thread a few links down from this one as it has great advice on all area fishing holes. You are in Ondrejka's neck of the woods, I'd get with him and follow his advice. Only thing I can tell you is don't write off Lone Star as a small fish lake.... Good luck
  3. That's the place I was talking about!
  4. That didn't help my patience at all.... 9 days....
  5. Then buy it if it checks out.
  6. Took my wife out to practice fishing a wacky rig at one of our ponds and she seemed to have zero problem figuring it out. We are headed on vacation soon and have the opportunity to fish a private trophy lake and this is what she will be throwing mostly, along with some top water as well. Not bad for a city girl. This was her biggest for the day. Just shy of 3lbs.
  7. patience grasshopper!
  8. Yah, Find a good fab shop and you won't need specs or prints. A good fab guy will make it better than factory.
  9. I'm not a fan of KVD. No real reason really. Just a feeling I get towards him. He is human, and had an off year. He also has a bunch of young, hungry guys chasing him. There are a number of possible reasons for why he didn't make it, but I sure as heck won't write him off just yet. The dude can flat out fish, and isn't going anywhere any time soon.
  10. I've seen bed fish do this a lot. I think it's a sign of aggression.
  11. This. There is a little welding shop off of west 151st street in Olathe that could do this for you. Could run you boat to Olathe Lake, Tie it up and go get it welded.
  12. Test drive, compression check, and take it home. $3500 would be a great price for it but you aren't getting hurt on that boat at $3750... as long as all things check out that is.
  13. have some buddies that swear by the 100mph suit
  14. Doesn't have to be anything fancy. Academy sports lower end ethos rods or berkley lightening rods work fine for this. They take a beating. $50
  15. Simple as that. I keep a medicine bottle of the abu ones.
  16. Exactly. You can get away with it on soft plastic frogs. I usually set my wife up with a horny toad and she catches the hell out of them on a medium spinning rod.
  17. Yup. Also have it happen where they blow up and dart to the next weed patch or grass mat and by the time you "feel" them to set the hook, you end up yanking half the weeds out and get a very poor hookset on the actual fish. Set the hook when the frog disappears. Most of the time, you will be rewarded. Sometimes, you will have to dodge a 90mph flying frog. It's funny cause it's true...
  18. This is generally to blame with people have a bad experience with z-man products. I've used 1 craw punching water willows and grass mats now for 4 different outings (with a trokar flipping hook) and it is still going strong. Have a buddy that has used one of the zman minnows as a trailer for probably 2 solid months now (fishing probably 2-3 times per week). Still going strong. There is a reward for the work you have to do to maintain them (not really work, just keep them in the original packaging.) Do you not strap your kayak down to your truck after fishing because you are too tired or forget? Same difference on a bigger scale.
  19. Go to a medium heavy power rod. I couldn't imagine driving double hooks home with a medium rod. I use a 7' medium heavy with 50# braid. Drag is totally locked down. I swing hard on frogs. I also don't wait to feel the fish like others will say to do. If your frog disappears, set the hook. I've had too many fish get away from waiting to set the hook.
  20. Your response made fishinfiends comment even better. lol. Kinda like asking someone if they are deaf only to have them answer "what?".
  21. I've never really understood the point of having just 1 power pole. 2 poles makes an anchor, 1 pole makes a pivot point. Spend your money on a nice Garmin
