Funny, there is a mod on YouTube that shaves off some material to make it swing wider and there is one that adds material to make it run straighter. Both claim to improve the action. I'll just leave mine alone!

I've got a bud that catches fish when nobody else does. He swears by (not at) black braid. He fishes in a lake that is as clear as an aquarium! He only uses a leader around sharp rocks.

Do you mean slip? If so the answer is no. You need tape or a few wraps of mono to keep the braid from slipping. Some reels have braid-ready spools.
