  1. I'm confused! Thum-barring is basically locking the spool or controlling it with your thumb. We all do that when needed. (fish is heading around a snag) But you are not taking up line at the same time! You would have to let off with your thumb to take up line. It is exactly like spool palming! What am I missing?
  2. This about describes my thought. But back-reelers sometimes come across as further evolved than the rest of us. One question I would ask is, how do you back-reel a baitcaster? And if you don't, why is that not a "deal-breaker"?
  3. They may have spooled it wrong. Even people that should know better spool bait casters and spinning reels the same. Line twist does not matter as much with braid, but it does matter. The loops that @Scott F mentioned will be worse if the line is installed wrong. 30 lb rarely has "wind knots" in my experience. 15 lb and down requires due diligence! Watch your spool! If you see a loop or loose line, pull it off before you cast again.
  4. ^^^ Basically a big minnow bucket. Anybody remember those?
  5. This is probably not what you meant to say, right? You need braid with a mono or fluoro leader. That will not completely solve your problem. You need to pay attention to what is going on with your spool. All that wrapping below the spool does not happen all at once. After you close the bail, glance at the spool and make sure all is well.
  6. Yep, tough to tie with the braid in your mouth like many videos show. I rigged up a paper clip to hook the braid to my shirt button. That puts the knot far enough away that I can see what i am doing. I only tie the FG at home. Alberto on the boat. I hardly ever have to tie on the boat, though.
  7. For much more! I even drop shot with them. Crazy deal at $1 per pack!
  8. 4" Yum Dinger. I'll bet it looks a lot like a Ned Rig.
  9. Does not prove it was photoshopped. Might mean he had a run-in with the critter before and survived to tell about it! I bet float tubes do not sell well around there.
  10. Um, all but one are made upside down! DOH!
  11. Nope, not my first rodeo. Probably my spool was too full, but I decided that braid with leader made my life much less complicated.

You're grounded! My first "nice" fish was about that size! Always get a thrill when I chance to catch a 5 pounder! May it not be your PB very long!
  13. I have been told that scupper holes are also for added stability. Probably not needed where you fish.
  14. Nature of the beast! Comes pouring off of a spinning reel like a liquid slinky, even when the bail is closed. On a baitcaster it is worse! Not a fan!
  15. Now that is talent right there!
  16. Put that line onto a spinning reel, and get some 40-50 lb braid. That was a tough way to start!
  17. You can actually DS a suspending jerk bait. 3' tag line, twitch it along.
  18. He did and it did. Caught her off her bed. Big news here in San Diego at the time.
  19. And, BAM, you have a tree! Swings are not always free!
  20. I knew a fella who said he married an ugly woman so nobody would want her. Shoulda bought an uglier boat!
  21. Aaron Martens, I wouldn't have to listen to him rattle on all day!
  22. If you are using a light wire hook, like you should be, the hooks practically set themselves. Everybody looses fish, two in a row is likely just unusually bad luck.
  23. Speaking of the FG Knot. I know the feeling. Braid wrapped around a single strand of FC line? You really have to trust the concept!
