  1. Actually one wrap would equal one revolution of the bail. That is neither here nor there. What would cause one spinning reel to cause more line twist than another? I have seen line rollers advertised as "anti-twist" which never made sense to me either. Anybody?
  2. I am actually interested in the rationale in this statement. All spinning reels take up line from one plane and put it onto another. If you could picture toilet paper coming off of a roll via the end of the roll, that is what is happening with a spinning reel. How would one spinning reel do that differently than another? Is there another reason, other than the mechanics?
  3. Not sure where the term "wind knot" originated, but it is not what I experience. What I have is knots or tangles that originate as loose loops on the spool. I think that line twist makes the problem worse. (yes, braid is affected by line twist) Techniques that allow loose line to be retrieved onto the spool are problematic.
  4. I have watched guys skiing fish back to the boat, and I always ask, WHY? Where is the fun in that? I think that mentality has been brought to us via Tournament Fishing. I enjoy a spirited fight where the fish has a chance. I have lost my fair share, but it is worth it. BTW, I use as strong a line as I think I can get away with so as not to break off fish, leaving a hook or lure in their mouth. LOVE a good, drag ripping fight! I will say this, however; sometimes you need to get a fish out of cover quickly in order not to be broken off.
  5. On the other end of that. Paybacks are coming to my kids through their kids, and I just smile!
  6. Laws prompted by invasive species, I assume?
  7. Put the plug in the boat before you leave home. If you are a passenger in another man's boat, always ask, "did you put the plug in?"
  8. Nice! I have yet to make that club. I have a 7 and an 8, a few 5's but no six. Soon!
  9. Have not thought of that song in YEARS!!! I agree with the suggestion of practicing on water, especially with a baitcaster. Easy to tell when the lure hits, your line will be wound back tight, and your line will not get beat up.
  10. You also have stealth on your side and you can fish water much more thoroughly. I know a guy who is a very accomplished Yak fisherman. He makes very good use of a light anchor.
  11. I repair some small hook tears and punctures with a lighter. Large repairs, yep, mend it!
  12. Gotta ask: Why "especially from a yak"? I have had people say the same when I catch a nice fish from my tube. I have a boat also, but my best fish have come in my tube! Just wondering!
  13. A 4+ always makes for a good day! I'm good with a 3+.
  14. No doubt this is true; just don't much like it.
  15. Loose loops on a spinning reel is the enemy of braid users. Jerk bait fishing is notorious for creating those loops, in my experience. I use braid and spinning gear for light cranks, but not jerks.
  16. Had prayer meeting that night, only caught from the Oak Ridge Boys on. Channel surfing too. Sounds like I missed the good parts. Was Fla/Ga/line there? If so, glad I missed that!!!
  17. What ever happened to Alan Jackson, George Straight and Alabama???? At least Garth was back! He was kinda weird but he was back.
  18. Guys have been using something like this in the salt for some time. Usually called a dropper loop rig with a lead head jig/swimbait on the bottom. Great for drifting flats.
  19. Yep, boring as all get out! Not a single extra base hit???
  20. I had one of the original G Loomis DS rods and it was way too whippy! Sold it and got a Cumara, 7' 2" Medium, Fast. Perfect DS rod!
  21. I had a bleeder yesterday. Would have taken him home but he was sub-keeper sized. Turtle food! Later I made up for it by removing an extra hook from the gullet of a fish that had been previously caught and broke off. As he swam away he turned and gave me that "thank you" flip of his tail.
  22. Fishermen seem to prefer 5", fish prefer 4".
  23. At least 9 pounds! (he's gonna use mine)
