Why would these women be featured at the Country Music Awards?

Not sure about Beyonce (I don't listen to her music, but assume she's a typical Pop/R&B artist), but the Dixie Chicks fit the profile.

But even beyond that, when have "music award" shows ever featured anyone other mass appeal artists?  And who cares?

  • Super User

Beyonce and the Dixie Chicks have taken social and political positions that don't represent those typical of country music fans.

The only correlation I can come up with is that Beyonce, the dixie chicks, and new style country music all suck.

Country ain't country no more....

I do not know WHAT that was - but it wasn't something I want to ever hear again.

Usually not a fan of combining artists - but I did enjoy this  2015 CMA collaboration between Chris Stapleton & (believe it or not) Justin Timberlake

Perhaps they could ask Toby Keith to host as well.  Does Beyonce have an arch nemesis?  If so, they could ALSO host.

I was thinking that too - well except for the Beyoncé part.  Just didn't expect to see that whole thing on the CMA's.

nailed it!

but seriously, who even watches these garbage awards shows anymore?

Older country music is good music to listen to when you are fishing.

...are both terrible.

Oh, I thought we were supposed to complete a sentence with the title.

I never understood the point of these shows to begin with. Why don't they just come out on stage sing a song. No stupid awards or funny skits. Call it the "Our tickets are overpriced, our t-shirts are cheap crap and we don't sing the songs you want to hear so this is for you the fans" show.

Seriously, if that award show consisted of Sturgill Simpson and Hank III performing and winning everything, I'd be cool with it.  Watching Toby Keith profit off of American tragedy and false patriotism is everything wrong with that genre.  The Outlaw Music Festival was one of the best shows I've been to in years. Why? Because no one currently on country radio was there.

If you're capable...lol.

They do it to generate people talking and clicks. Nashville sold its soul long ago.

We live in a weird time for music. There's good music still being produced a lot of it actually. If you know what you like it's very easy to get without leaving the house. Conversely, unless you know where to look it's harder to find

i'm no fan on hank 3, nor hank 2 (aside from family tradition), but hank 1 was the man.  i loved his music as a kid and still listen to him from time to time.

sturgill is the man though.  i can listen to that newer cd, sailor's guide, on repeat for days on end.  he killed it on the nirvana cover of in bloom too.

and toby keith is garbage!

What ever happened to Alan Jackson, George Straight and Alabama????  At least Garth was back! He was kinda weird but he was back.

Alan and George were both there and sang together.

After seeing that stack of nsync CDs you brought with you to Baccarac a few years ago, I figured this would be the case :)

I know right - but it's too bad I had to divulge my secret weapon to catching Grande' Bass.

I quit listening to anything called country music when Randy Travis started to fade way back whenever that was. I don't even recognize the names any more. And I haven't watched any so called awards shows since the 80's.

On a lighter note, since I play guitar and sing, I can make my own music.??
