  1. 5:1 reels are quickly fading from popularity, especially if you reel left handed. I use a 5:1 a good bit still, and I've had to buy reels offered only in Japan to keep getting a lefty Shimano 5:1. I can't see a 5:1 ever not being a useful ratio for bass fishing, especially with the crankbait guys.
  2. I bought a pack of these worms and tried them out this summer/fall. As always with Missle, a quality plastic bait. However, I'm very unimpressed by this bait. The design of the bait with a skinnier middle and chunky ends makes it fold in half in the water and have little/no action at all. I bought these worms because they were touted as a bait that excelled for wacky and Neko rigging. However I found that the bait just laid down flat on the bottom while Neko rigging, where I would prefer my Neko bait have a tail that stands up some.
  3. I've seen that it depends on the hook company honestly. You need a shank that doesn't go past the end of the body, but a deep enough throat that the hook point gets exposed so it can hook up with a bite. I own these style hooks in everything from a 1/0 up to a 7/0, and I've found that generally a 3/0 to a 5/0 is the sweet spot. The Rage website has this helpful photograph for rigging their Rage Toad.
  4. I tex-pose my Horny Toads and Rage Toads.
  5. I don't see why it wouldn't work. I have an Abu Veracity 7'11" MH Winch model (cranking) that I love using for tossing 3/4oz. spinnerbaits in deep water on Erie.
  6. It all comes down to tonight. Who does everyone have?
  7. 40 degrees and rainbows here in western PA this past weekend.
  8. Penn States defense was terrible in the 4th quarter. Not saying that Ohio State didn't play great, but man they couldn't stop a thing. The offense didn't do them any favors either with managing the clock properly either. They ran that delayed handoff run 6 plays in a row...
  9. Did anyone hear about how the Browns made a trade with Cinci for a QB and forgot to call it into the league in time? Only the Browns...
  10. Quick little update for everyone. The brass gears from the Curado K will fit in the Metanium MGL. So if you're someone who hates aluminum gears but loves your MGL, you can now put the sturdier brass gears in it. The Tackle Trap has already started offering gearing replacement kits, and I'm sure your favorite local Shimano dealer could get them for you.
  11. Glad to see I'm not the only one who does both. A is great for punching, or throwing in spots where it's so thick you can't afford for that point to pop out (or if you're using a bait that's already caught a fish or two). Generally speaking, in my experience, A hurts your hook up ratio a little, but it's nearly 100% whenever it's a decent sized fish that can inhale the entire bait.
  12. When rigging a plastic bait, there are a few different ways to go about it. So I'm curious about how everyone else does their rigging. Which method do you use and why do you prefer your way over the other? If you use both, explain why. A. Bury the hook point inside the plastic. B. Pass the hook point completely through the bait, and then Tex-Pose the tip of the point back in the bait.
  13. In all seriousness, you've got a 3 year warranty. Talk to Abu and see what they can do for you. http://www.abugarcia.com/AbuGarcia-warranty.html
  14. Another thread back from the dead... I would never go 10 or 12 lb. on a spinning reel in a 20-25 size. You're going to have nothing but issues due to the thickness and the smaller spool. If you're looking for a budget line on a spinning reel, I'd go with 6 or 8lb. Trilene XL.
  15. Good to know. Thanks, John.
  16. I just ordered 10 jigs and a spinnerbait yesterday from Seibert's. I know the jigs work, but I'm curious to see how his spinnerbaits are. I love his bluegill flash color for a swimjig/spinner/buzz/chatter-bait skirt.
  17. 803 - Senko's 853 - lighter jigs/plastics 854 - heavier jigs/plastics Step up to an 89 if you prefer a 7'5" rod for any of these presentations.
  18. The same things that happen to every other buzz/spinner-bait style lure. Wires bend out (or break), blades break, etc. I will say this. I fish buzzbaits on braid and I have never bent out a hook on a Cavitron.

  20. Gene Larew Tattle Tale (6 & 8" versions) Grande Bass Airtail Wiggler (6.5") GYCB Senko 5" Berkley Shakey Snake
  21. I've had Cavitron's last me 30+ fish, and I've had some last me 3 fish before. The pike and bowfin can destroy a buzzbait in no time. The same can be said about boat flipping 4+ pound bass with them. For the most part though, my Cavitron's usually last me quite a few fish.
  22. I thought it was common practice to just use the boater's plastics and tell him you'll pay him back next time?
