  1. I tried first with 12 lb invizix and it went fine but then I tried casting and got a big backlash and had to cut out half of it then I used the rest as backing and put 50 lb braid on top of it. But my problem came when I've tried to spool other reels. One with 16 lb sunline supernatural. I try putting it on just like every video says to make sure the spool of line is coming off on top and going on to the reel the same way it's coming off the spool of line. Once I get some on the reel and try to free spool it all just springs right off. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong I'm trying to follow all the directions but it's not working for me. I also tried with 14 lb sunline reaction fc and the same thing happened. Please help me.
  2. I have a St Croix mojo bass topwater rod and it's only rated for 5/8 and I was wondering if it's that big a deal to go to 3/4 with a big spook. Will the rod break if I try to throw the bigger topwaters? I hope not cuz I've got a bunch of them.

That's funny I kinda had a little similar thing happen the other day. Last year at my favorite pond I lost a crankbait on a tree right near the dam. Went back for my first trip this year found it floating in the water tied it on and two cast later had my first bass of the season. Pretty funny way to start the year.
  4. Good idea with this series I just got my first baitcasters and it's not going well. Hopefully this will help. Thanks
  5. I feel the exact same way I don't know anyone who knows anything about fishing. Without this place I'd be lost. And I think I saw u were from mass. If you ever want to meet up and go fishing pm me.
  6. I just spooled mine up that I got at Dick's for 42 bucks. That sale was ridiculous I also got a Veritas for 35 bucks. Pretty good combo for 77 dollars. Next year I'm going to every Dick's I can find and buying everything. I guess they do it every year.
  7. I would not know how to fish without this forum. I've learned so much about bass fishing more than I ever thought possible. This forum is what gets me through work every night. Thank you all so much.

  10. I caught my first one on a bait I lost last year and I found it floating in the pond. I grabbed a stick and pulled it in tied it on and two casts later it got inhaled. This fish choked it.It's a sebile squarebill in sunfish flatsided.Probably the perfect bait for that pond.
  11. I've been getting phone calls from a number in Maine twice a day for a week. It's driving me crazy I refuse to pick up. They don't leave a message
  12. I caught my first fish of the year today at my favorite pond. It was frozen two days ago I couldn't believe it was open. It was a 2 lber on a sebile squarebill sunfish and I actually lost it there last year and it was floating in the water so I grabbed it and tied it on. 2 casts and it got inhaled. I gotta change the hooks but it was in pretty good shape for being in there the whole winter.
  13. Around me some ponds are open and some are completely frozen. The C harles river where I go in Dedham is flowing so fast you can even fish because it just takes your bait. I'm dying to go fishing. Thanks for the cabelas tip Mike I'm definitely going to make that trip.
  14. One more question I have a curado a lexa and a few tatulas am I right to think the Tatula is the best to learn on or should I try the other ones? Thanks again
  15. Thanks for the tips. I knew I shouldn't have tried to learn with fc I really didn't think about what I was doing cuz I found a little pond that was the only open water around here and got excited. I was using a senko another mistake cuz the pond is filled with crap so that was all I could get in there. Would braid be okay to learn with? And would a 1/2 jig be okay to learn with? I don't have any of those weights that were suggested. I would pay someone to teach me how to cast right I've got a bunch of rod and reels I don't know how to use yet and it's driving me nuts. Sorry for jacking the thread.
  16. I just tried my baitcaster for the first time and it did not go well. I back lashed pretty badly and it was 12lb invizx so there goes some good line. I think I need to try a heavier bait to start. Try something 3/8 or more would be my suggestion. I hope u have better luck than me.
  17. I'm trying to decide if I should get a bb1 too. I already have a Tatula but everyone says to get the lews. I wanna try every reel there is and then decide which one I like the best and then switch to just that kind. I never thought deciding on rods reels and tackle would be so difficult. Fishing is the most addicting thing I've ever done. And I smoke. haha
  18. I just went to see the kayak I'm going to buy. It's a ride 115 and it's all rigged up already with a Lowrance elite 4 and I'm going to get a nice life vest and paddle. The kayak and fish finder is 850. The rest of the stuff brings it to 1100 altogether. There's a few other things. I think I'm getting a good deal. It looks brand new. I can't wait to get my kayak finally. This is gonna be awesome.
  19. I'm from Norwood. Maybe you have seen me I'm 29.
  20. Op anything that Shane says you should listen to actually all of these guys that posted. I've seen what they catch and I was shocked at the size of the fish and numbers. I just started fishing last year and I mostly fished a senko but at the end of the season a squarebill and a chatterbait were all I could catch them on. Just try different types of lures and see what works. I caught a bunch of pickerel on hollow body frogs if that helps you any. All I know is these forums are the only thing that has helped me learn to fish so take a little bit of info from everyone and use it where you can.
  21. I don't have anything to compare it to as it was my first year fishing but I caught 6 lmb over 5lbs so I think that's pretty good. I probably caught 500 altogether although I'm not sure. I do know that one week I wasn't working I caught 128 bass in 4 days. That little pond was loaded and it taught me how to catch fish. I learned everything that I know right here and with bassresource videos. I never thought I would love fishing as much as I do. Now it's all I think about its really changed my life. I have a productive hobby to enjoy for the rest of my life. I'm so grateful to the people on this forum for everything they have taught me. So thank you all very much and I hope next year is as much fun as last year. I also hope I can figure out how to use all these baitcasters I've bought.haha
  22. I am dying to go fishing I've been buying new lures every week I keep organizing everything. I've been buying new rods and reels once a month. My final purchase will be a kayak the second week of March when I get my bonus. I can't wait for this snow to melt it feels like it will never go away. YouTube videos are torture watching people catch fish is starting to drive me crazy.
  23. I got a mh veritas 7'6 for 32 bucks at Dick's and I'm not sure what I should use it for.Would it be okay for a frog rod? Or jigs? I just started fishing and I'm trying to get my combos right. I have a lexa 7.1 on the veritas. Thanks for the help as always.
  24. you've got to be kidding me that was the greatest catch ever. Because he was wearing gloves it wasn't "sporting" what does that even mean. Everyone has been wearing gloves in football for 40 years. I'm a Patriots fan and hate the Giants but that was the best catch I've ever seen. Ridiculous to say it's not because he was wearing gloves.
  25. I need these and I needed them yesterday.
