  1. Had to check the poster’s name twice because it sounded/read like something I could imagine @Catt saying. Well put, @Pat Brown & @roadwarrior 👍
  2. My parents often used to tell me I couldn’t see past the end of my nose. I feel the joke is on them because my lures go where I want them in the water far more often than getting hung up in the trees along the bank. In your face mom & dad!!!
  3. @Functional & @ol'crickety I sound like a broken record but a jig is about all I throw in late winter/early spring. I hesitate to use the phrase from ice out because I’m not familiar with Carolina weather tendencies but that’s when I start. It’s not what I’d consider a "fun" bait because it is boring/meticulous, however I am a firm believer it puts higher quality fish in the boat at certain times. I try to cure the boredom by guessing what different things feel like as the jig falls through cover & while dragging through/over things. Rock, brush and timber being my favorite but for me grass is a downer unless it’s being swimmed (swum?). It’s a lure that gives the angler constant feedback, IMO.
  4. …..meanwhile in the NFC South
  5. @Woody B’s lack of a haircut really got you in a bit of a mood, didn’t it? 🤣
  6. Has to be hard to drive these with hands like that.
  7. Good luck with that - my door all week long:
  8. @king fisher I wasn’t aware he’d left the tree in my front yard.
  9. @gimruis COVID might stop haircuts or might just be some bed head going on. Unless you’re gonna plow your way out of MN & head him off at the ramp, I don’t think the haircut or fashion police will be stopping Woody anytime soon. 🤣
  10. I’m not disagreeing with the post above by any means, just offering my experience. We all have different preferences with our equipment & many of us fish differently or like different things in rods. I have a DX 745C & it’s a very good rod but in my opinion is way under powered for what I prefer in a jig rod. I went with an Xtasy DRX 745C & it’s the best jig rod I’ve ever used, very sensitive but lightweight & just felt more powerful to me. Yes, it’s a lot for a rod. Worth every penny. Didn’t feel like I had to really hammer it on a hookset with the Xtasy. You’re in TX so better shot a larger fish than we typically see up here is why I mention the Xtasy. Both rods above have a softer tip, with the Extreme HP being slightly softer to me. Sure, you could throw spinner/chatterbaits on the DX 745 but if it were me, I’d use either a Champion XP DC 765CB or DC 765CB GLASS for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits - those are wonderful rods for moving baits with plenty of backbone & most of the Champion line are closer to all around/cross purpose rods than the higher priced "feel" rods IMO (Extreme HP & Xtasy). Look through the latest catch pics thread & I posted a 6-12 which was caught on a DC 765CB & I had plenty of rod leftover when she was bulldogging for deeper water. TW has yet to put their rods on sale for Xmas so hopefully Dobyns will be offered once it starts (next week I believe).
  11. @Woody B There’s no stopping you. Glad you’re feeling better, good to hear. 👍
  12. @PhishLI That lipstick though 👍
  13. @GerGa That’s why I am not seeing the same options you are. I went to the Navionics site. I did some digging for you & found this: https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=4nP6W4556t3FmuRB6gwNu8&productID=Garmin Navionics%2B&tab=topics&topFaq=true Choose the lower option of the 2. I believe that is the process to go through if using a download option. No clue if that equates to being able to use your own card. Seems like a lot of effort compared to inserting the SD card into a computer, choosing the area to update from the chart installer & then putting the card back into the chart plotter. I’d be confirming all this with Garmin before assuming the download is the way to go. One thing is for sure, their online self help & documentation is [insert expletive of choice]. Not trying to be a jerk, but that’s all I can offer. Do it how you wish - your time, your money. 👍
  14. @BigAngus752 You sound like you’re a tad disappointed. I didn’t read Bottomfeeder anywhere…🤣
  15. @GerGa ETA: Are you going to Navionics site or Garmin’s site? I am going to Navionics. At Navionics, users have 2 choices, Garmin or non-Garmin under the Chart Plotter pull-down. Third choice is irrelevant. Then 2 choices once you pick Garmin. I have checked every mapping product on Navionics site & no option for download is shown. I am using a tablet & some sites can detect that & send the user to a mobile site, so it might be different on a PC. One option, SD card for Garmin chart plotters, for the Navionics+:
  16. @FishTank Too easy for me to throw the Crawdad in the back of the truck. Gone in 30 minutes. Bass boat is stored in a barn at a family farm 20 minutes away so it usually sits until we need a change of scenery or go on a week long trip out of state. The older I get the less I enjoy being around the general public it seems. Hate feeling that way but I’m not going to deny it. That’s also one of the main reasons I like fishing at night once the bass are off beds. Pits spoiled me for a long time.
  17. @FishTank I should have gone yesterday. Forecast was calling for 15+mph winds but it seemed to calm down quickly. Too late for me to get packed & to honey hole so didn’t go. Had some leaves & peanut shells (squirrel hoarde) to clean up so did that instead, silently cursing the weather app. Was going to go today but wind again didn’t look favorable so just didn’t plan on it. Next week is looking calm once Sunday’s temp dip warms up a bit. Fingers crossed. Never fished in Indy before, any big ones lurking in the usual haunts EC, Geist, etc?
  18. @NorthernBasser 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I knew you’d see it! I give you a hard time because if I see your name on the user list, it’s usually in the tackle area or sale thread - but I am on here more than usual lately. Just something I noticed & got a chuckle out of. Anyway, the damage was: 4 Picasso Bait Ball A-rigs 6 Picasso lures take on Snagless Sallys (3/8 & 1/2 & 3/4oz) 2 5 packs of Picasso Smartmouth Mustad 4/0 swimbait jig heads (for A-rigs) 2 packs ea Keitech Fat Swing Impact (Ayu 4.3 & 4.8) 2 Booyah Blade Spinnerbaits (single CO 1/2oz cart/white) - gifts for dad, he won’t ever buy what I use 1 Booyah Moontalker Spinnerbait (single CO 3/4oz) - gift for dad 2 Huk t-shirts Not the best bargain as some of the stuff wasn’t on sale but needed for restock. Got dad’s military discount though. I have another honey hole shop I use for most orders - no sales tax with them but they don’t have the inventory count that other places do so I keep that one quiet.🤫
  19. @WRB One thing I found most interesting in my years of fishing was back when I was a teen, my dad had borrowed some snorkeling gear from a buddy of his. We went to the strip pits for a weekend & once we were out in the boat, he told me to throw on the mask & jump in. We were bluegill fishing with live bait & slip bobbers on a saddle where redear were bedding around 8-12’ deep. Once I got in, I grabbed onto a rope tied to the boat & he took me around the lake on a short tour, seeing all kinds of different stuff. The thing that stuck out to me most was when we returned to the saddle with the redear on it. I was floating on the surface & could see them on their beds, their little red gill flaps looked like fluorescent orange jig heads. Dad dropped his slip bobber rig down & I guided his line until the cricket was right in a fish’s face. The fish just sat there for a moment but I eventually saw it flare its gills & the cricket was sucked right in. What I found odd was my dad didn’t set the hook. I kept watching & saw the fish spit out the empty hook. I lifted my head out of the water & asked dad if his bobber had moved & he said no. Told him to re-bait & lower it again only this time to watch my hand & to start reeling when I signaled. I once again moved the cricket in front of the fish & watched it inhale the cricket. This time I still had the line in my hand so I yanked it up. I quickly raised my other hand & dad started reeling. They were sucking that bait in & not moving off. The bite was completely undetectable with a bobber. It wouldn’t even bounce. The bobbers came off & we tight lined the rest of the day, coming home with a nice mess of fish. Lesson learned.
  20. @thediscochef Happy birthday! Sorry the weather isn’t cooperating. I think your winds are blowing up this way. We have gust advisory today followed by ~60° & rain tomorrow & then decent temp drop Sunday. 🤬 I probably won’t be able to get out until Tuesday but forecast looks much calmer just not warm. I feel sorry for the one getting my first hookset.
  21. @fishhugger Coming soon.
  22. @ol'crickety Thank you. I’m full of ideas. Whether or not they’re good or bad remains TBD.
  23. @Susky River Rat Try doing your thinking & plan of attack & backup plan before you’re even at the water. There are going to be times when a whole family of skunks take up residence in our boats & we could throw the entire tackle box in the water - they’re just not going to bite. I find if I can accept that possibility beforehand, my mind is clearer when I need it to be.
  24. Let us know when the bass equipment will be going up for sale. 🤣
  25. @ol'crickety I know, I know. A trip to MX might be cheaper in the long run. 🤣
