  1. No one said you’d turn into Russ Van Dam, but I appreciate the Jordan reference. I can also help with any basketball tips - you know how basketball is up around here. Many of us grow up shooting from the cornfields, though you wouldn’t know it by how some of the college teams have played in recent years. At least you didn’t use that self-anointed cry baby on the Lakers for your point - that would have been quite offensive.
  2. I also use heavier braid (50lb min.) for frogs & larger topwater lures. Never had the issues you’re describing. Never cared for the lighter braid on baitcasters myself.
  3. @Glenn We gonna convert the non-believer!
  4. I know a couple guys a short 5 hour drive away that might learn ya differently. Picked that gif just for you - knew you’d bite on that if I slow rolled it. 🤣🤣🤣
  5. I’ll take anything over 2.5lbs all day long if I have to. 🤣🤣🤣 Seriously, that sounds like a blast. Nice Christmas Eve present. I’m sure bigger will come at some point, if the pond’s big enough. I used to fish what amounted to a watering hole for cattle that was about 200’ X 75’ & had the biggest bluegill I’ve seen around this immediate area. It also had a few 4-5lb bass in it.
  6. @LrgmouthShad Shot caller 🤣🤣🤣 That’s awesome.
  7. @TnRiver46 Minshew told Tannehill, “Hold my beer, I’ll take 6 today." Dolts - just terrible.
  8. @Kites R4 Skyfishing Sorry for late response, hadn’t checked for replies in a while. I usually have a trailer but no trailer hook. Not beating my chest, I just don’t lose many on spinnerbaits. Probably just jinxed myself there.
  9. Some very good words of wisdom above. Bass will always bite the classics - not always today or tomorrow or this decade. Plugs, spinnerbaits, worms, jigs, spoons - the rest, to me, are just tweaks to those core lures, most to catch fishermen which they do quite well. I’m certainly dumber than a bass given the size my ridiculous collection of lures has grown. I feel in a sense, lure usage can come & go in circles. For instance, you don’t see many folks throwing jitterbugs or hula poppers on TV or in tournaments but given the right time & place, they can still put bass in our mitts. A lot of success is dependent on for what it is you’re fishing, tournament, trophy, meddle, recreation and for many, addiction. Sure, anglers zig when others zag - it may be more than what’s tied on the end of one’s line in that regard. Others have already alluded to it: where, when & how are just as important as what is used. I just try to throw what the fish are telling me to throw but I don’t always hear or listen to them.
  10. I don’t fish T-rigs as often as I should, but when I do it’s: Zoom Ol’ Monster or Magnum Ol’ Monster 8" or 12" Mann’s Jelly Worm Not a T-rig bit these can be absolute killers with a swivel & their slim line sinkers in any firetail version - I prefer grape firetail:
  11. @BC VC basser Unfortunately, air guitar is the only instrument I ever learned to play.
  12. Thanks to all who make this site what it is. Merry Christmas & wishing all a safe & happy New Year. 🎄🎅🎄 ….now let’s get some giants in 2024!🎣🎣🎣
  13. @TnRiver46 I was reminded of that also when I read "slappin da bass." 🤣
  14. @NorthernBasser How many trucks are you renting to go up there with your stuff?
  15. @softwateronly I am of the opinion most of the Dobyns rods are lightweight, sensitive & have plenty of backbone, at least from the Champion XP line on up (price-wise). Their XP 704CB is an awesome topwater rod, especially for smallmouth. I wouldn’t be afraid of a 703CB for smallies. Their 5 power rods could easily handle 8+lbers in moderate cover IMO. Good looking rods, too.
  16. @swhit140 Get some pigs on those skewers. Nothing like breaking in a new rod with a big one.
  17. @MN Fisher My condolences on your loss. @AlabamaSpothunter pretty much said all I could offer. I wish you & your family the best in this difficult time. You & your family will be in many a thought & prayer. 🙏
  18. Might just be increased blood flow to areas which are sensitive to feeding, possibly enhanced by colder temps and/or induced stress of being caught. Would be interesting to know if the coloration remains or goes away after a fish is caught & recovered from the exertion during the fight. Water temps in the 50s is cold to me - probably a bit misleading in terms of what it is to a fish though. One might tend to refer to water as cold based on how it feels to us, if that makes some sense. @Catt Larry Nixon needs to know "why" on the lipstick phenomenon. 😉
  19. Yep - learned the hard way. Injectors & fuel rails are currently in TX waiting to be inspected & tested sometime next month. 🤮
  20. @galyonj They’re usually only used in angling when a fish comes unbuttoned or for fending off the bait monkey.
  21. @Dwight Hottle If you don’t mind me asking, were those up around Kissimmee grass yet? IIRC, they should be moving up in the next 4-6 weeks down there or a bit further south.
  22. @Dwight Hottle Nice pigs. 👍
  23. @Pat Brown maybe word is getting around about you & those fat bottomed girls, knowing they’re gonna get caught, are simply getting prepared for a potential smooch? 😚😚😚 I noticed in one of the last images you posted one was wearing her lipstick. No clue what may cause the coloration but I feel it’s more of a cold water thing, especially if it’s occurring in both males & females. I doubt it’s a prespawn attraction, as in nature, the males are typically the horny show offs in regards to bright coloration or other such means of attraction/drawing attention from potential mates.
