Love New Truck Day ~
Not that I am aware. They’re boring out the 5.3L to a 5.7L & 6.2L to a 6.6L. That’s all as far as I know. The engines from the K2 (2014-2018) had AFM (basically cylinder deactivation) which always shut off the same 4 cylinders which is said to cause uneven engine wear. T1 (current generation) has DFM (dynamic fuel management) which shuts off as many cylinders as possible given the current driving conditions, using 17 different firing patterns, which I assume will result in more even engine wear. K2 engine related issues, from my understanding, have been due to lifters & cams. Many claim to ignore the built-in oil change frequency & keep it around 4-5k miles. I owned a 2016 Sierra SLT with 5.3L paired with 8 speed transmission. Hated the transmission. It shifted hard & was clunky feeling. It started having an issue the service tech called fish-biting @ 55k miles, which is best described as a missing out sensation while driving at highway speeds. They swapped transmission fluid & cleaned the catch magnet & I drove it for another 25k-30k miles & traded for a new 2019 Denali with 6.2L & 10 speed transmission. MUCH improved transmission. Can’t comment on current T1 engine issues - mine’s got very low miles due to pandemic & I keep it properly serviced. Given me zero problems. Every manufacturer has their own issues. Not limited to automotive industry either - everyone is getting cheap on quality.

Just limit that to the deadly worm & all should be fine. Heh heh. "Hey baby, check out the new new lure I got for ya." *helicopter*- Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
@NorthernBasser @KP Duty Probably wise to get them sooner rather than later, before Rapala has a chance to mess them up. 😆- jig vs texas rig when to use which?
Really good point. Happened to me when I started fishing football jigs in a lake that has practically one entire side littered with laydowns. I didn’t own any other type of jigs but after losing 2-3 per trip, I changed to a flipping jig which not only had a different shaped head but the line tie was at a different angle. Problem solved, plus the newer jig comes through weeds much, much better as an added bonus. If I do get snagged, the vast majority of the time I can move the boat over to the opposite side of the snag & jig will pop free with little effort. Bait Monkey was ecstatic with my decision.- Latest Catch Pics Thread
@AlabamaSpothunter Alex, you’ve got those fish in the palm of your hand my friend. That pig looks shocked that she was caught. Almost like…..- jig vs texas rig when to use which?
To add to all of the already excellent advice above, don’t be shy about following one up with the other before moving on to the next location. Also jig worming is an almost forgotten technique, using a 4+" worm as a trailer to a skirted, or in some cases unskirted, jig. Pick your poison as far as worm shape. Even Senko type worms will work as trailers.- I have never...
For your sake, I’m hoping you don’t own a 10 gallon hat or sombrero. 😂- Loss of family
@MN Fisher Sincere condolences Ken. Rough couple of weeks bud.- New Year, New Fishing Buddy??
@Carolina Pines I agree with others in that the drinking conversation is probably best put on the shelf for the time being. If you work out the fishing part, maybe there will be opportunity later to get him to open up a bit more. It sounds like you’re similar to me & prefer others to be direct with you, as you would them. I’d ask to speak to him privately & tell him you really enjoy fishing with him & wish to continue to do so but was noticing lately that he wasn’t going & if there was any reason or not. I’d also try to make him understand you’re not upset but you just want to make sure all is well between the both of you & it’s made you feel a bit awkward at times as a result & you’d rather not have that for either of you. As others have said, you’re family & probably need to get along. Should a serious heart to heart fail to gain any ground, I’d mention it to your wife & afterwards I wouldn’t waste another minute of my time on it. At that point you’ve left the ball in his court as far as I’m concerned. With that said, I’d also take full advantage of time with my dad fishing. I’ve been lucky & have fished with my dad most of my life. He’s now 77 & still able to go most of the time but on occasion cold temps keep him home due to compromised immune system from medication he takes. If he doesn’t go, I’m either asking friends or going solo. Sorry you’re going through this & I wish you the best. ETA: Regardless of how the conversation goes with the BIL, make sure he understands he can go fishing anytime, just let you know & more importantly if he ever needs someone to talk to or just hang out, you’ll be there.- Latest Catch Pics Thread
Unfortunately that one got released to the grease to thin the herd. However, there are plenty more from that gene pool & you’re welcome to them anytime (weather allowing). 😉- Latest Catch Pics Thread
@AlabamaSpothunter You saw what a 5 tried to eat. A hand sized bluegill would be an appetizer for some of those pigs in your lake. Bass up here don’t get as big but some waters they just absolutely chew on bluegill constantly, especially when the gills are spawning & easy targets. Would be like a serving tray full of bacon wrapped hors d’oeuvres for us.- Attainable Goal(s) for 2024
@LrgmouthShad Jigs work fine in small waters I fish, between 7 & ~100 acres. I find the bite not to be as consistent as it might be on giant reservoirs, especially waters lacking numerous rocky areas. The coal strip pits are typically mucky bottomed after decades of leaves & runoff but some shale rock areas will still exist. Jig bite is strong from ice out until the spawn ends. Vegetation makes jig fishing these places more difficult as the water/weather warms. I’ve not given swim jigging a fair shot, which would be a logical technique to fish through the weeds, as I’m usually fishing for larger bass & tend to throw what has produced bigger bites for the given time of year. Another lake I frequent is a small reservoir but has much more rock & littered with laydowns with less vegetation & the jig bite is much more consistent throughout the year. Not claiming any of this as a rule of thumb, just my experiences on small waters north of Mason Dixon line.👍 Hope to see @Woody B sporting shoulder length hair by August. Once he does get it cut, the clippings might make for a fine bass hair jig 🤣🤣🤣- Post a photo a day!
@AlabamaSpothunter We have reds, grays, flying & fox. Flying squirrels are more nocturnal, IIRC. I’ve yet to see one of those. Reds are super aggressive & smaller than both grays & fox. I never saw a red around here until I was working from home during the pandemic. Much fewer in number by my house. There’s maybe 4-6 in total. They’re much more difficult to keep up with - like little rockets running through the trees & can jump like Spider-man. Sound like little squeaky toys when they get riled up.- Post a photo a day!
@TnRiver46 There are also mottled looking fox squirrels in the southeast - mixture of orange/red, black, white & gray. Pretty cool how those colors are isolated to certain areas. I see some color variation locally but it’s usually limited to lighter & darker of their typical rusty color. Quite a few blondes & most of that coloration are females. Currently have one juvenile that’s blonde but she won’t have anything to do with me.- Post a photo a day!
@TnRiver46 These might be fox squirrels - hard to tell for sure. I just remember their statures weren’t quite as big as most fox squirrels I see. I’ve traveled around the Detroit area for my job quite a bit as well as having spent many weeks in northern WI & have seen much larger black squirrels but these were built more like grays.- Post a photo a day!
Probably pretty cold up there, no? Just turned off cold where I’m located (just south of Indy) right after Xmas. I noticed the neighborhood squirrels feeding more heavily when the weather got colder. They seem to do quite a bit of eating & sleeping. I’m not sure how far south they are but I know north of here, mostly MI & WI that I’ve noticed, have some grays (I think) & foxes with black fur. Will dig up a pic of what I believe was a black colored gray squirrel I saw a few years ago when up near Traverse City, MI one June. As @TnRiver46 stated as I was typing my typical long-winded response, likely a retriever of some sort, given the head shape. All big baybees. All the dog pics make me quickly say to myself, "You wanna go outside?" in an excited manner. I love getting dogs riled up & happy.- Post a photo a day!
This is Easy. He came down from the top of a nearby silver maple to say hi & grab a quick snack. I’ve gone through close to 10lbs of peanuts in 3 weeks. The hoarde is hungry. Gonna have to get the shop vac out to clean up the shells on the ground.- First Skunk of the Year!
@thediscochef If I had one, I’d put it in my boat. 😆- Drop Off
Both ended up being good games IMO. Should be a good championship next week.- Tackle buying for 2024
Bait monkey finally left & appears to be headed north on 65. 😂- Loop Knots for Soft Jerkbait - Yea or Nay?
No expert by any means but for the most part I’d only consider a loop knot for topwater cadence retrieved lures or vertical jigging with grubs or similar (mainly panfish though).- Drop Off
They don’t want to compete with anyone else when it comes to the playoff games, not even the "lesser" bowls. A good game to watch. Congrats, Wolverines.- Latest Catch Pics Thread
Caught an 18lb carp on 4lb test while vertical jigging for crappie in a big laydown. Had to follow it around for a few minutes in the boat before it finally decided to come up off bottom. Clear blue Stren for the win. Oddest thing I’ve seen regarding bass was my dad bringing one in around 2lbs that had recently engulfed a muskrat head first. The tail was still sticking out of its mouth. I’ve also seen smaller bass (under 3lbs) with a similar sized bass stuck in its gullet before - dislodged one from another & the assailant eventually swam off albeit quite slowly.
