  1. @gimruis We harvested those mainly because they needed to be removed, the request was secondary. Panfish are the usual suspects for table fare from that particular body of water. I wouldn’t likely keep bass from public waters. Have fished in your region once a year since `89 & only kept 6 smallies once while fishing out of Ely in the BWCA & that was because we never ran into any walleye on fish night. I miss those trips up to Basswood. The mosquitoes are another story.
  2. Sounds like me when the jig bite is ON!
  3. I appreciate that thought & I will be trying as soon as ice is off if we ever get any. Still no ice yet but from today on nights are going to be a bit colder than they were up until last night. I think we had a high of 60° on Xmas Eve. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to squeeze in any time to go.
  4. @TnRiver46 Huh? My first comment in this thread in a while. I don’t deer hunt but I’ve got some spinnerbaits I can send you instead of the venison. Flattered I’m on your mind though! 🤣🤣🤣 I agree regarding fish - IMO, diet, environment & how long fish sit around raw prior to preparation or consumption more often affects taste more than size. Japanese don’t pay top dollar for giant bluefin tuna because it tastes terrible (to them). Incidentally, fillets can be submerged completely in water in a ziplock & frozen & will not freezer burn & last for years as long as all the meat is covered in water & remains frozen. Lastly, I’ve provided fish to friends upon request, when able & some have gone as far to requested certain types (bluegill, crappie) while not wanting others (bass) claiming they didn’t like the taste of bass. Panfish weren’t biting well but the small bass were so that’s what they got. I never told them & when I asked how the fish were they told me they were delicious & possibly the best they’d eaten in a long time. They were shocked to find out the crappie fillets were actually bass. All came from a private lake & were small.
  5. It also might be road salts causing filiform corrosion. Common in snow states & eventually shows up on most aluminum wheels. Usually looks like the image below when growing under a coated surface. The worm-like tendrils with some blistering are common identifiers. Will be a grayish brown, black or white growing under clear coat or on uncoated metal surface, usually steels, aluminum or magnesium.
  6. I’d be cautious & telling her….
  7. @TnRiver46 I think it initially saw a spinnerbait hanging from a tree, couldn’t resist the urge & jumped to get it & was subsequently attacked by a predator.
  8. @AlabamaSpothunter Just tanks, dude. You & @Pat Brown need one of those "On ‘Em" hats. @LrgmouthShad, get one as well.
  9. I will get cuts almost exactly like that trying to snap line wrapped around my hand. Got used to doing it when I used lighter mono on spinning reels & do it out of habit with fluoro & often ends in stinging regret. 🤣🤣🤣
  10. American Legacy Fishing is having their 12 days of Christmas & Return of BF sale through New Year’s Eve. https://www.americanlegacyfishing.com/holiday-promotions/2023-12-days-of-christmas.html You know who has locked eyes with me. Smug little #*%!&%.🤬
  11. @Pat Brown That small cut on the left index finger looks familiar - fishing line by chance?
  12. Everything I ordered was early or on time. I’m guessing much of it depends through which hubs packages pass in regards to potential delays.
  13. I assume Canuckistan is Canada (his location).
  14. Apologies for my assumption. Not sure if I should offer congratulations 🤣. Not married here either, and fine with that - more time for chasing the green variety of fat bottomed gals. Much fewer headaches but not sure which is worse on the wallet. ….and what is "caught". 😷🤧🤢
  15. @A-Jay I am right there with you. Not necessarily regarding FFS but just in general. Unfortunately our society can’t help but pump the brakes on any train wrecks these days. Pretty sad IMO.
  16. Tom Crean, former IU men’s basketball coach, is married to John & Jim’s sister Joani. I wonder if during moments of intimacy he gets images of Jim stuck in his mind? 😳😳😳
  17. @NorthernBasser I have feeling you have a whole library of comebacks for your wife when it comes to tackle purchases.
  18. @king fisher
  19. At the time, we were in a bass boat & conservation nets didn’t yet exist so we were OK in that regard. Wasted many a golden shiner on those vile creatures & that was back before shiners were $20/dozen. @gimruis I know - started fishing BWCA out of Ely in `89. My spinnerbaits still complain about the pike. I can still recall I’d cast them out & they’d be like, "Nnnnnoooooooooooooooooo"
  20. @FishTank …with a Megabass jacket as well? (Noticed the cuff).
  21. @Zcoker Never enjoyed catching them either, when I was down there bass fishing. Complete lure wreckers. Gar were also nuisances but less common.
  22. @KSanford33 I’ve seen that happen when it’s cold & braid is essentially freezing to itself on the spool. Common on spools that lack "threading" pattern into which the braid/line can dig. Quick fix is the tape method. When ready to change the braid, a cheap backing will also help reduce the amount of braid used.
  23. @KSanford33 ……to the poor grub fishermen!
  24. @gimruis I hear they’re nibbling on big worms & fat wallets.
  25. You can have all the laws you want. They mean very little if not enforced. A perfect example of this is I am responding using my cell phone while driving 90mph on the interstate. I got here by turning into the far lane in front of @TnRiver46’s house after a short spinnerbait Xmas gift demo & didn’t use my turn signal because I have 1 taillight busted out along with headlights that only work on high beams!
