  1. Simple golf cart motor conversion there. If the motor is good it should work great on your boat. Expect to spend about 1500 on speed controller and batteries for it. Tom D.
  2. 36 volt golf cart motor is a motor from a golf cart mounted ontop of a lower unitl. You will need to use some type of speed controller with it. Either a new PWM contoler for infinite speed control or solinoids for more regulated speed control, 6, 12, 24, 36 volt power. The best advise is going to be to check your battery conections and keep them tight. These motors draw alot of amps and can melt down batteries pretty quick. most run 60 -80 amps. Make certain all your switches and what not ae rated for the power you will be drawing. Tom D.
  3. New tire they are cheap anyway. Why risk it I am sure the boat is worth more then the cost of a tire. Tom D.
  4. Use a bucket and load the line in it. It does not take much effort to coil line in a bucket. Tom D.
  5. Glad it worked out for you. It should last a long time. Tom D.
  6. Fish MD the 6 volts will give you a little less then twice the run time. The issue is that the bigger Ray motors draw 85 plus amps which will drain the 12 volt batteries very quickly. They don't have the capacity that 6 volt batteries have. You will not see much difference in the speed performance between the weight of 6 or twelve volt batteries. After all most boats were not designed to be push they were designed to run on top of the water, no electric is going to do that for you. Since you can't plain the boat with electrics you are only going to go so fast, maybe 6-7 miles per hour tops. What I am trying to say with all of this is to get the 6 volts you will be much happier in the end. Tom D.
  7. If you can slide what you want over the end of the rod then it would be a simple undertaking if not you would need to remove the guides and redo the entire rod. If the new handle fits over the end it is just a matter of mixing some 5 minute epoxy and glueing it on. Be careful removing the old stuff so that you don't ruin the rod. It will take longer to remove the old handle then to glue the new ones on. Tom D.
  8. It sounds like you may be missing a part. The pump will put water in and the drain will let it out. This is fine while you are still in the water and the pump is running, but turn the pump off and the water will seek it's own level meaning the water line on the boat. You should is tall an overflow tube onto the drain hole. This tube needs to reach almost to the top of the live well but not quite there. The idea is that the water will only flow out of the tube when it is over the top of the tube. This will allow you to run the pump to fill the well but allow the well to hold enough water for fish. You will need to watch the pump so it does not fill the boat with water. If not using the overflow tube you will want to plug the drain so that it does not fill until you need it water is heavy and gas is not cheap so save some weight and plug the well when not in use. Good Luck, Tom D.
  9. I was going to suggest using the transducer that came with the unit not the universal one. I think it was basssmaster that had an article about motor guide and lowrance and how they had worked together to get the units working. Don't know about Minnkota. Try with the Lowrance transducer and see what happens. Tom D.
  10. You will want to insert part of another rod in the middle. That is if you have a rod that will fit inside of it. The problem with just fixing the outside is that the inner rod will still colapse on itself when put under load. You may get away with epoxying a peice of a wooden dowel rod in there if you don't have a rod you can cut to fit. If it is close enough to the rod split you may just want to shorten the rod a few inches and go with that. Tom D.
  11. A little more info may get you some better responses. Where is the unit mounted trolling motor, or transom. How old are your batteries. Is the unit getting enough power. Where did you mount the gps reciever. Who did the install? Is the transducer in clean water or is it getting bubbles from the boat. Are you running another unit at the same time. I think you can work this out but we need more details. What has Lowrance said about the unit. Send it back to them if you can. Good Luck, Tom D.
  12. I hope you had it insured. I would not mess with it until you have settled the claim with the post office. You will need to cut the rod and insert a piece inside to support the blank. otherwise it will just fold on the repair location. Good Luck, Tom D.
  13. The local Uhaul can install hitches as well and they are not to out of line with prices. Tom D.
  14. I would take the boat and a stack of cones to an empty parking lot and practice until you can do this. The winch idea is extremely dangerous. What are you planning to do if the cable breaks or comes off. Can you stop the boat from crushing you. How do you plan on anchoring the winch to the garage? How will you power it. Most are 12 volt. I think they make power pushers for parking boats. Kind of like a motorized hand truck that may be a better option. Once you aree comfortable backing up you will think this whole thing funny. Good Luck, Tom D.
  15. If you have insurance on the boat and the deductable is not to high call them. That is why we pay the premium every year.
  16. Google fluid beds there are plenty of articles on how to make one alot cheaper then you can buy them. Tom d.
  17. I dought if that is a 15 lbs thrust motor, but I do know it is older then dirt. It may work for you if the price is right <100 preferably <50. Good Luck, Tom D.
  18. Most of the people where I fish that do not have trailers, back their van to the waters edge put the boat in then unload all their stuff into the boat. You will find moving a boat full of batteries and gear is going to be a large under taking. That stuff gets heavy fast. I don't know how big a guy you are but a steep ramp like you are taliking about and wheels on the boat sound like a recipe for disaster. Just back to the water launch and go fishing. People won't laugh at you, and you will be safe in the end. Tom D
  19. Don't loose to much sleep over it. The wood will outlast the carpet by far. If you really want it done right cover the ply in fiber glass and it will last forever. Tom D.
  20. Any time. I know how hard it is to fish with messed up fingers so the further they are from moving blades the better. Tom
  21. Looks pretty good to me. I would drill the mouth before cutting the dowel. This would give more material to hold onto and less chance for injury. Just my opinon. Tom d.
  22. Nice job on the tranducerr mount. You just saved a bunch of guys a bunch of money. Thanks, Tom D.
  23. Looks great just be certain the stick steering is thru bolted to the deck. You don't want that coming off while you are flying down the lake. Also check that you have the correct one for that outboard. I think some states have regulations about the max HP you can run with stick steering. Don't want the man busting your chops on the water. Keep up the good work. Tom D.
  24. See if you can find welding cable alot cheaper and acctually better wire. Lots of strands and very flexible easy to work with. Only down fall only available in black.
  25. I guesstimated the amount of carpet based on the legnth and width of my boat. I got the glue at the hardware store. It was formulated for the type of carpet i was using. Ask the people at the store they will steer you in the right direction. Tom D.
