Fishing jigs in grass?
No idea honestly. I’m sure we have hydrilla but there’s all types of vegetation here in south Florida. Most of my fishing is from the bank in ponds and canals, so generally shallow water. It can get really thick during the summer and mat up on the surface. When it’s that thick I think it’s best to stick with a pegged Texas rig to punch through. To be honest, this time of year is really peak fishing time, for me at least. I feel like a 1/2oz is enough to get through the grass the way it is now. I would think if the grass is so thick that a 1/2oz T-rig can’t get to the bottom, any jig no matter the weight would just get hung up. I could be completely wrong though!

Thanks for correcting me! I absolutely love how natural it looks.

I have some mata jigs from Siebert and absolutely love them. This is a 1/2 oz brush mata jig. 99% sure it’s bama craw color. Maybe Mike can confirm.

Fishing jigs in grass?
Thanks. Jig rod is a Dobyn’s champion extreme 745. I normally fish 3/8-1/2oz jigs/t-rigs. I don’t find I need the heavier weights much. Maybe I do need the heavier weights more often and I just don’t realize it.

I have a bunch of bama craw brush jigs from Siebert. Wish I could transfer the skirts over to the grass jig head. 😂

Best Rod for Bottom Contact and Moving Baits
I was going to suggest a steez ags. I’m really considering upgrading my Dobyn’s champ extreme 745 to a steez ags. I’m really curious how they compare sensitivity wise to the other top dogs.

How important do you find sensitivity in your rod for bottom contact baits etc.
Interesting. I love the way the Dobyn’s champion extreme balances. I’ve heard the NRX doesn’t balance that well. I’m really interested in the steez ags. I wonder which model steez ags would be a good replacement for a champion extreme 745? How well do the steez ags balance?

Tatula elite AGS
Very curious to hear what people have to say about the AGS guides. I know the older ones seemed to have a reputation of being fragile, but the new generation is apparently much better from what I understand.

Thank you! Any chance you could post up a pic of GP/purple/gold? I feel like that could mimic the tilapia and cichlids we have down here. For some reason, I just feel like something with gp/purple would be good. Like bama bug, purple oyster or purple craw.

I’ve got a bunch of Siebert brush jigs in various colors but I’ve found that they don’t work as well as I’d like in the grass down here in south Florida. I plan on getting some Siebert grass jigs, just not sure what colors to try.

I’ve definitely thought about that. I’m curious how that process works.

Thank you @Siebert Outdoors! What do you think about okeechobee craw? I’m assuming the name came from it being good in Lake Okeechobee. Oh, and PB&J? I keep hearing about that one.

Thanks! Still waiting to hear what @Siebert Outdoorsthinks is the best head choice between the grass jig, the tungsten flipping jig and the tungsten pitching jig. Also would love to hear his opinion on colors for Florida's tannic water.

Interesting. I’ve never seen anything like that.

Would you rather catch...?
Whichever fights harder. 🙂

Which one? Bama craw or pb&j? Sorry just making sure!

Yamamoto Sanshouo
Hmm. Wonder how well that would work in south Florida. We have axolotols, sirens and amphiumas down here.

When working a Jerkbait, do you want tension on the line at all times, and how important is parabolic bend?
This right here. Always pop it on a slack line. You want it to dart erratically. Not just pull forward.

Are Megabass jerkbaits really king or is it a confidence thing?
Definitely a staple northern bait. I would say partly due to cold weather effectiveness. I definitely don’t consider it a cold water only bait however. Here in Florida, working a jerk bait aggressively (without a long pause) catches all kinds of species of fish, including bass of course. The only problem is like you said, the amount of grass/weeds in the water and the lack of deeper waters makes it easy to snag, and it’s not fun losing a 25 dollar lure.

Thank you! I used to use Bama craw a lot. The skirt is green pumpkin on top and orange on the bottom. Would that work well? As far as browns go, I keep reading about pb&j being a popular color. Seems like pb$j mixes junebug (purple) with dark brown. What are your thoughts on it?

Fishing jigs in grass?
Yeah. That advice was completely new to me. I’m planning on trying it out next time out. I used to fish a lot of laydowns so all I have are a bunch of Siebert brush jigs and some buckeye mop jigs. Still hoping @Siebert Outdoors can give his 2 cents. I’m wondering what he thinks is best for grass between the grass jig, the tungsten pitchin jig and the tungsten flippin jig. Also curious about colors for the tannic water down here. I’d also love to hear from @Glenn. I’m wondering what he thinks about colors for south Florida’s tannic water. I know Glenn has a lot of experience and I’d also love to hear what colors he’s seen pros using in these tannic waters. Definitely would appreciate hearing from both of them!

Totally agree with this. The vision 110 is definitely the best. The lucky craft pointer is what I would throw if I’m worried about getting snagged. Not that I’d like to lose either.

Do you use your index finger to feel the line when fishing bottom contact baits?
Ouch!
