This right here. Always pop it on a slack line. You want it to dart erratically. Not just pull forward.

Definitely a staple northern bait. I would say partly due to cold weather effectiveness. I definitely don’t consider it a cold water only bait however. Here in Florida, working a jerk bait aggressively (without a long pause) catches all kinds of species of fish, including bass of course. The only problem is like you said, the amount of grass/weeds in the water and the lack of deeper waters makes it easy to snag, and it’s not fun losing a 25 dollar lure.

Thank you! I used to use Bama craw a lot. The skirt is green pumpkin on top and orange on the bottom. Would that work well? As far as browns go, I keep reading about pb&j being a popular color. Seems like pb$j mixes junebug (purple) with dark brown. What are your thoughts on it?

Yeah. That advice was completely new to me. I’m planning on trying it out next time out. I used to fish a lot of laydowns so all I have are a bunch of Siebert brush jigs and some buckeye mop jigs. Still hoping @Siebert Outdoors can give his 2 cents. I’m wondering what he thinks is best for grass between the grass jig, the tungsten pitchin jig and the tungsten flippin jig. Also curious about colors for the tannic water down here. I’d also love to hear from @Glenn. I’m wondering what he thinks about colors for south Florida’s tannic water. I know Glenn has a lot of experience and I’d also love to hear what colors he’s seen pros using in these tannic waters. Definitely would appreciate hearing from both of them!

Totally agree with this. The vision 110 is definitely the best. The lucky craft pointer is what I would throw if I’m worried about getting snagged. Not that I’d like to lose either.

What colors would you recommend for south Florida? Tannic water and some dirty water where it looks like the bottom is constantly stirred up. Mainly canals and neighborhood ponds. Talking about jigs in particular but maybe some spinnerbaits as well.

I’d also recommend the Zillion. Definitely from Japan though. Ok the topic of size, what exactly does the 100/200/300 represent? The size of what? Companies like Lew’s and Abu Garcia don’t have those same numbers. How would you figure out what a lews/abu 100/200/300 etc is?

That makes sense! I’ll have to try slowing down and using more finesse next time I’m out. I have a bunch of Siebert outdoors brush jigs as I like the way they sit on the bottom. The way the line tie is recessed seems like it would work great in grass, but obviously Siebert has a grass jig that looks much different. Maybe @Siebert Outdoors could shed a little more light on the subject? Is the brush jig ok for grass? Brush jig that I use. See the recessed line tie. I figured this would be great in grass

It’s funny, I’ve never been able to find confidence in black/blue flake baits. Missile baits super bug on the other hand is my favorite. It’s green pumpkin with black and blue flakes on one side and black with blue flakes on the other side. As far as other colors, I really like green pumpkin for creature baits/worms, plum and junebug for worms as well and shad colors for soft jerkbaits. I also like green pumpkin back white stomach for soft jerkbaits.

I’ve always loved fishing jigs. I’ve got a pile of Siebert outdoors brush jigs in various weights and colors that are absolutely amazing. One problem I have: grass or any type of vegetation. The jig just doesn’t slide freely through the grass like a Texas rig would. Every time I try to hop it, it’s stuck and I have to give it a couple hard pops on a slack line. It’s not the hook that’s the issue, it’s where the line tie is. No matter what jig I try I end up with grass wrapping around the line tie. I’ve always assumed “well the grass is too thick for a jig here” and put on a Texas rig. Is this just something that comes along with fishing a jig in grass? Any tips to help me be a more successful jig fisherman? I’d appreciate it! P.S this is in no way a dig at Siebert outdoors jigs. I only mentioned his jigs because I love them so much and own a bunch. The grass “issue” is universal to all jigs I’ve fished, regardless of brand.

I know for most of the country this is a bad time to ask this, but what are some good rain jackets to wear in warm weather? Just something that will keep you dry but not make you hot. Is that even possible?
