Would you rather catch a fat, shorter bass, like this...

...or a longer, skinnier bass, like this?

Assume they weigh the same. Thicker or longer?

If they weigh the same, id rather a longer bass every time.

PB has two meanings, weight and length. Well atleast for panfish and trout the length applies.

Bass for me is the same. I still remember when i first started bass fishing my PB bass was 19", had no clue about weight back then.

OK... I know the question was about bass, but I can't help myself. When you have critters like this available to ya, going from them back to bass is like going from bass back to bluegill. No interest in it, with the exception of chasing giants. I think that applies to most species, because no matter the species, giants are hard to come by.

Either, or, I'm just happy to feel a tug on my line!

Swamp Girl, I really like catching all sizes of bass!

I like the thick big belly girls.

Long LMB without girth are either old male or unhealthy. Fat LMB are healthy and females and numbers of long fat LMB have been my goal to catch for decades.

Absolutely a big, thick girl especially at the spring dance!

Since we use length in my fishing league, I'd rather a healthy long fish. But most the time, the tug makes me happy enough regardless.

Were they caught in the same body of water? Prespawn and post spawn fish? Both are nice fish. Over the years I’ve gotten some nice length Smallies in the river but they were lean fish. I’ve caught some lake Greenies where the heads seemed large in comparison to the body and have no idea as to why that is. But appears to not be a health problem. Fish looked and seemed to be just fine.

Different bodies of water. The thick one was a bog bass and the skinny one was a pond bass.

I will take any bass, long, short, dink. They are just fun to catch.

I should have given this thread the heading, "Post your big bass!"

I'm just happy when I don't get skunked.

"That's what she said" applies to several posts in this thread. :hammerblows:

Yeah, me too. There were many evenings in 2024 when I'd drive down my gravel driveway, park, walk through the woods, and launch my canoe only to catch four or five bass and I was so happy.
