Anyone know how much line capacity the JDM steez a2 has? Can it fit something like 20lb invizx fluorocarbon?

@Delaware Valley Tackle are you saying to fill the whole spool with only mainline and not use any backing? Or am I misunderstanding?

I’ve been speaking to Jun through emails. He’s been very helpful and his English is great. The fact that they will take your reel and send it to daiwa japan if you have an issue or want it serviced seems like a big plus to me. They also offer a 6 year warranty on all reels bought from them. I feel like I’d rather spend a few bucks more to get the after support from Japantackle than to save a few bucks and be SOL if I have an issue. Just my $.02

Thanks! I’d seen some people saying the steez was more of a “chuck and wind” reel and one YouTuber that services reels (won’t mention who) even said the steez can’t handle anything under 5/8th ounces. I found that hard to believe, but wanted to make sure.

Anyone order from Japantackle.com? I like the fact they have a warranty on all reels and will send your JDM daiwa/shimano to daiwa Japan/shimano Japan.

Have you ever serviced any magseal reels before? If so did you just flush the bearings and replace with standard oil? It seems like the whole magseal thing is more of a gimmick than anything. And just curious, how does this reel do with lighter baits? Not talking BFS but weightless 5 inch senkos and wacky rigged 5 inch senkos. Can it handle them?

How does the steez a2 cast things like weightless 5 inch senkos or wacky rigged 5 inch senkos? I’m interested in the JDM version. Is that too light for them?

It looks just like a lews except for the colors. Right down to the inset logo. Are lews made in the same factory as these? Are there any other reels that are made in the same factory?

So using a backing line is a bad idea? I’ve been using 12lb mono as backing on all my reels. Even on reels that use fluoro. I use 25lb tatsu on one of my reels and that stuff is expensive! I don’t want to fill the whole spool with it. Does it really make that much of a difference?

Ok. So I’ve done some digging on google and emailed a couple retailers and I’ve found out a few things. 1) I’m getting mixed messaging on whether daiwa USA will work on a jdm reel. The reel I’m interested in is a steez a2. The US model has a 5 year executive cleaning package, but the JDM retailer says the JDM model does not. The only difference between US and JDM models afaik is the spool depth. In my mind, I’m going to act like daiwa USA won’t service. If I buy the reel, I’ll try to get it cleaned by Daiwa USA. If they deny it, then hopefully I’ll be able to find an alternative to service the reel here in the USA. 2) japantackle has a warranty on all reels bought from them. For service, they will send the reel to daiwa Japan. It costs $40 to ship to Japan, $45 plus any parts needed for an “overhaul” and $27 dollars to ship it back to US. So quite a bit of coin to spend annually to clean a reel. I have another question for @Delaware Valley Tackle. Sorry for so many questions, and thank you for all your help so far! Daiwa has been using magseal in their reels for quite some time. Even in USDM reels. I imagine you must have encountered magseal at some point. Have you ever done a clean and lube on a daiwa reel with magseal? I understand you can’t get the fluid, but have you ever serviced a reel with magseal? Did you just leave the magseal component alone? As far as Saltwater, I live on the coast of Florida. I don’t do any saltwater fishing, believe it or not. The only thing worth noting is that being so close to the ocean, sometimes a canal or pond that looks fresh ends up being brackish. If I realize a body of water is brackish I cease fishing. So I would say no, I don’t plan to fish saltwater, but mistakes can happen and sometimes I’ll accidentally wet a line in brackish water.

I have a dobyns 745 champion extreme. The old version, not the HP but I absolutely love it. I use 25lb tatsu fluorocarbon. It’s a bit on the lighter side for a mag heavy but it can handle 3/8oz Texas rigs all the up to 1 and 1/2 oz punching rigs. Hell, I’ve even thrown weightless senkos on this rig! The action is more moderate than other fast action rods which I really love. I’m planning on buying an HP to dedicate to weightless senkos, wacky rigs, light Texas rigs and other light stuff. Not sure which model to go with. I’ll definitely be following this thread. Hope my input was somewhat helpful!

Ok thanks. What about regular cleanings? Is that something you could do on this reel? Is it possible for you to leave the factory magseal in place while cleaning/lubing the rest of the reel as normal?

I haven’t been on here in quite a while, but I’m back! I’m considering buying a steez a2 from Japan. The steez is “magsealed” and comes with a 5 year service plan. What I’m wondering is how I’ll be able to get the reel serviced. I assume daiwa USA won’t honor the 5 year cleaning plan, or will they? What about sending it to Daiwa Japan? Is that possible, and if so how hard/expensive is it? The next question is related to the reel itself. How do you service a “magsealed” reel yourself? Would a service center like the ones recommended on here be able to service a “magsealed” reel? Would having it serviced by a third party remove all the magoil and negate the benefit of magseal? Maybe someone like @Delaware Valley Tackle can chime in? I’d really appreciate any input you all can give me! Thanks in advance!

I love a squarebill this time a year. Spinnerbaits and topwater as well. Also jigs. Man I love fall fishing

They do have quite a wide wobble but I haven't had any issues with mine. I will say that they can run a little awkward when worked too fast. Other than that I've been enjoying them.

C-rigs are great! Can't go wrong with a Carolina rigged trick worm imo.

This may sound conceded, but catching a largemouth bass over 10 pounds... in NY. And letting it go to maybe be caught and enjoyed by future fishermen.
