Is night time a bad time for bass fishing ?
Black buzzbaits and spinnerbaits at night produce some lunkers. Give it a try!

High End vs. Budget Lures
Basically, I'm going to be fishing good quality middle-end stuff like Strike King 9 times out of 10. Love their products to death. If I want something pricey, I buy it used.

- Fantasy: Wheeler Lake
Hey guys, working on a ton of research for this next BASS tournament on Wheeler Lake. I'm trying to place even higher in the fantasy standings, so I'm putting in the research for this one. Not going to share my lineup until the event starts, but here are some things I thought the bassresource fantasy fam might want to know. If you aren't a fantasy nut, then don't bother -Wheeler Lake is in Alabama. The locals fishing it are: Clent Davis (Montevallo), Boyd Duckett (Guntersville), Matt Herren (Ashville), Tim Horton (Muscle Shoals), Randy Howell (Guntersville), Kelley Jaye (Dadeville), Steve Kennedy (Auburn), Kotaro Kiriyama (Moody), Chris Lane (Guntersville), Russ Lane (Prattville), Jordan Lee (Vinemont), Matt Lee (Guntersville), Justin Lucas (Guntersville), Aaron Martens (Leeds), Keith Poche (Pike Road), Gerald Swindle (Warrior) and Greg Vinson (Wetumpka). -This is a fishing report from a guide on the lake: " Guide and tournament pro Brent Crow reports, “Wheeler will be filling during the first part of the month and should reach full pool by April 15. The bass will be moving up with the water and taking advantage of the shallow cover now available. Shoreline grass, laydown trees and stumps will all hold bass on Wheeler during April. The main lures will be shaky heads, jigs and rats when I am on Wheeler. On windy days, I will also look to throw a Strike King spinnerbait and a KVD 1.5 squarebill crankbait around wind-blown points and rocky banks. On the lower end of the lake, the backs of creeks and pockets will be the first place to look in April. Again, hard bottom areas are key, like pea gravel banks and chunk rock areas. Around the Decatur area, the flat pockets filled with stumps and bushes are prime areas to find Wheeler bass during the spawn. The bushes in the Swan Creek and Suzy Hole areas are always productive. Flipping bushes requires braided line and heavy gear. My choice is 65-lb. P-Line braid and a Dobyns 795DX Flipping Rod. A heavy flipping hook like the Hack Attack Heavy Cover hook is a must as well. Flip a Strike King Rodent or Structure Bug right into the middle of the bushes, and hold on.” -I'm really thinking Greg Hackney is going to do well. Also, look out for Tharp. He's on a roll and he's done very well there in past FLW events. Definitely keeping in mind guys who like fipping, throwing jigs, and spinnerbaits. The last bait seems to be huge on this lake. Who are you guys thinking about for this tournament?- Using an inline spinner
Can't go wrong with the old spinna! They rock- It's a Bass not freshwater
Gotta love those stripped bass Welcome!- best 4" swimbait
Cool, thanks- Fantasy!!! Bull Shoals
This was an interesting tournament, at first it seemed like my guys wouldn't do too well but they all ended up doing me very good, with the exception of Brent Erhler (although he did great the first day). Brian Snowden was the only one of mine to make the top twelve, but even so I'm still in 99.99 percentile, 33rd overall in standings. This live show was fantastic. Loved watching Zaldain, Tharp, and Skeet Reese is always a great live guy. Probably my favorite weekend from BASS yet.- best 4" swimbait
just curious, what kind of phone is that?- Jig Skirts!
- Are pics of fish in the dirt disturbing to you????
Unfortunately, you gotta do what you gotta do when you're fishing from the bank; I always pin my bass against the edge of the shoreline if they're very big, and swing them onto the bank if they're small enough. I do so in a manner that they rarely get full surface contact with the ground, most of the time I'm swinging them right into my hand. But they do get dirty. As mentioned above, a quick rinse before the pic does a world of good .- Bass fishing tips for ponds after rain
If it's currently raining, I always throw a spinnerbait or buzzbait. They seem to do really well in the rain. After the rain, my ponds at least are always very muddy, so I'm always throwing something with flash, vibration, and/or color. Lipless crankbaits, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, buzzbaits, jigs, and dark color soft plastics come to mind for this situation.- Best Bass Fish Attractant?
I use baitmate and berkley powerbait; haven't seen a huge difference with either, although I have seen baitmate work pretty well. I applied it to my jig, pitched it in the water, watched a cloud of iridescent scent billowing in the water, and a bass came up and ate the jig. Pretty cool, but still searching for the perfect one.- Pre-Spawn Success
Nice work bro; those are some big mamas!- Skipped work today....
Good work Jeff!- Weekend adventure on my pond
- Line for jigs.
I use 30 pound power pro braid and really like it. Gives me added sensitivity and the strength to winch fish out of cover.- Finesse Fishing Fans
I started out fishing with finesse baits. Mostly just weightless senkos and 4 inch finesse worms. These became my confidence baits that I would resort to in almost every situation. I found that, although I would try other techniques, they would quickly get replaced by my trusty finesse rigs. I caught a lot of fish. Although I did catch some larger fish (most notably a 5 pounder on the ned rig), the majority of the my trips were full of numbers and small fish. This mentality was enjoyed for a while, but soon replaced by a hunger to catch big fish and probably a desire to catch fish on the methods that my heroes the pros did. I started fishing jigs, crank baits, spinnerbaits, chatter baits, top waters, etc with far more regularity than previously. Instead of giving up when I wasn't catching anything, I grit my teeth and kept trying. Although I often fish finesse baits, the majority of my fishing is now done with larger baits and stouter tackle While I don't discourage you from fishing finesse baits, I would encourage you not to give up on the others. Doing so has made me a much better and more versatile fisherman, and gotten me a lot of bigger fish- Check out TW's new website
