Your Most Versatile Rod
This is a pretty easy one to answer. Mojo Bass 6'8" MXF spinning rod. If I'm going out fishing with 1 rod this is it.

St Croix Victory vs St Croix Avid
The victory rods are phenomenal! I have a 7'10" SB ranger that I love throwing lures on. Avid I had a cranking rod and really like it to. You can't go wrong with either.

G Loomis IMX MBR843C Use
Glad I started this thread. It gives me a few more ideas for lures to throw on this Rod. I'm a river smallmouth guy, so I generally keep my tackle thin to a moderate amount. I like rods that can do a couple things well. This one sounds like it can do a bunch! I like extra fast rods for smallies normally. It will be nice to have something with a little more tip on it.

G Loomis IMX MBR843C Use
I got this rod basically for free on a trade. Its a 7' MH/F. It feels really nice and I've seen it labeled as a do everything rod. I've never owned a Loomis rod, and can tell it has some unique tip and backbone to it when casting. Id like to know what you guy that have experience with this rod have utilized it for? I was thinking it feels like a spinnerbait/buzzbait rod two lures I don't use. I fished jigs with it yesterday and like my extra fast rod better. I threw a swim bait on it and it was ok, but a medium power i like better for that. Basically I think its a great rod, but i've already got 9-10 rods in my line up I like and don't quite know where to fit this one in.

Bass Fishing "rules of thumb"?
There is no substitute for time on the water and you can’t catch them if they’re not there.

It has been a great season so far!
Rock bass are easily my most caught fish here in our river system, and yeah I’ve pretty much got 1 option on haircuts these days 😂.

It has been a great season so far!
Absolutely! We’ve done several guided trips this was by far my favorite

It has been a great season so far!
We just got back from St Clair. Had a blast and caught a bunch of healthy Smallies. I’ve also had the best spring of my life locally on the river including a PB River smallie. I’ve fallen in love with fishing again and looking forward to the rest of the season!

Boat Choice Effect On Tackle Choice-Small Craft
I determine how much gear I’ll bring based on the boat. The boat has no decision on what gear I’ll bring. The body of water and species have a huge impact on this

bladed jig Rod
I have been using a David Fritts 6' 8" medium heavy moderate perfect crankbait rod. I am new to bladed jig fishing, but it seems to work really well for the river fishing that I do.

Learning more about smallmouth patterns
I made a post over the winter about being dissatisfied as an angler. I did some reading and bunch of YouTubing to improve on my approach and thinking. I’ve spent a bunch of time on the water this spring so far. I’ve throw new lures, fished new water and gone out at some weird times. It has lead to great fishing spring so far. I caught a new PB yesterday. I don’t get to brag about this often but here it is! 19” long: I don’t have a scale. I’d say that’s the next thing on the list!

Gas or electric motor?
Very nice! I've got a 1980 Johnson 35 HP tiller on the back of my boat. I just keep up with routine maintenance, and it will serve me well for many more years. Electric start with the recoil back up was a big deal for me. I was thinking "electric only" when i read about no wake. Let me change my answer a bit. I'd get an old Johnson or merc and throw it on the back of your boat. If you only use it just in case still 100% worth it. I've probably got 50 of them running over the last few years. Fun hobby. Simple. Cheap. Dependable.

Gas or electric motor?
I'd go ahead and find the biggest/baddest/most powerful bow mount you can. Something with spotlock. and keep that transom mount as a back up. I have 0 desire to be on the river and only have 1 means of propulsion ever again.

What is your price point of Diminishing Returns on rods and reels?
I like to get stuff of marketplace so prices are a bit all over the place buying used. I’d say most id my Rods are around $150-200 new and reels are around $200-300 new. The real answer is whatever vanford costs is what I’m willing to pay. Love that reel.

Learning more about smallmouth patterns
Reading this book through slower a second time....Post above is WRONG! I thought i knew this stuff. Not even close. The Smallmouth Modern Fly Fishing Methods, Tactics, and Techniques is phenomenal. It talks about the exact type of fishing i like to do. I am going to have a fun season trying to apply this knowledge in 2026. Thank for the recommendation.

Do you scuff your worms?
Only time I do is if it’s is REALLY stiff. Tubes I like to scuff.

Learning more about smallmouth patterns
I bought fly fishing book mentioned in the second post after the op. So far I really am enjoying it. Truth being told I probably know most of the information in here but it’s presenting it in a way that’s is actually applicable which is wonderful. Knowledge without ability for execution in fishing is pretty limiting in value.

bladed jig evo vs tungsten evo? I got about 100/120 bucks to spend. Would yall get a ton of the regulars evo half and half or tungsten evo only? I’ve never fished chatterbaits before. I’m referring to the dicks sale buy 3 get 3. I could get like 12 tungsten, 24 of the regular evo or 6 tungsten and 12 evo regular for around the same price.

Kayakers - How Much Tackle?
In my kayaking days I tried to get it down to 1 3500 box for the day: floating the river and fishing 1-3 techniques I think will work for the day.

Have you ever counted your lures?
Let me just say I've got enough stuff that I can fish my whole life and my son who is 4 can fish his whole life and we'd still have PLENTY left over. I couldn't even begin to guess. Most of y'all have invested in 401k...I invested my future in something I'll have much more use out of....
