Ned Rig
I used to catch a bunch of smallmouth and rock bass on the ned. I feel like everyone and their brother has thrown it, so it has lost some of its effectiveness. Green pumpkin and peanut butter and jelly are my favorite colors. Z man baits. 1/16 oz jig head most of the time. Most of my bites are on the fall or dragging it painfully slowly. Like however slow you're retrieving it slow it down to .5 or .25 that speed. I used to throw it all the time, but anymore I find it to be my last resort. It used to be the first lure off the boat. My fishing has changed. TBH I'd rather throw a tube all day in the same water I'd throw a ned in the past. Rob

Curado bfs spool in curado 71 hg?
Glad I checked. So I’d need a side plate and a spool and it would have to fit perfect to make everything work…I’ll just buy a bfs reel

Curado bfs spool in curado 71 hg?
I was looking at a Curado BFS reel and just thought I've got 4 of these mgl 71s here at the house. Can i just buy a spare BFS spool and swap them out? Google search says yes but I wanted to double check with the people. Thanks Rob

Braid for cranking
Yes. I've been straight braid on everything for several years. We fish in chocolate milk about 1/2 the season and green water the rest of the year.

What do you consider your most productive old time lure?
Is a tube considered an old time lure? If so that's the ticket.

Do you want the latest greatest?
Problem with latest and greatest is stuff changes so fast that in a year or 2 its old and dated. I don't really care too much about "new" and if you saw my CRV or boat you'd be far from impressed. I have bought a bunch of new reels this winter, but that is to have the more modern MGL spools. I generally find something i like a just buy newer versions of the same thing forever. For fishing gear I like Shimano casting reels, Pflueger spinning reels, Fenwick and St. Croix rods. I don't see a big reason to deviate too much. Like with anything I like buy once, cry once.

Lews custom lite 6’8” medium/moderate fast for cranks?
I’ve got a few curado reels with the mgl spool. Should be good there. I’m curious how this Rods action will work for treble hook lures.

Lews custom lite 6’8” medium/moderate fast for cranks?
I was looking to throw 1.5s and similar mostly.

Checking in from NJ

Split or full grip
I like full cork handles but not that big of an issue either way. I’d say 75% if mine are split handle now.

Lews custom lite 6’8” medium/moderate fast for cranks?
Excellent Analysis. I have a jerkbait rod I love already (extra fast) Look into this rod for square bills, lipless etc. something for shallow river crankbait fishing

Lews custom lite 6’8” medium/moderate fast for cranks?
Rod is listed as a top water/jerkbait rod. I’d like to use it for shallow crankbaits. Squarebills mostly. IIt’s medium moderate fast. Buddy of mine has this rod for trade and I’m looking for a shorter crankbait rod. Anyone had experience with this rod? I already have an extra fast mojo bass jerkbait rod I love. This custom lite would be an off label use.

Storage In garage
I’ve seen plenty of old trackers that sit out in the rain and snow all winter without covers and guys take them out and fish them in the spring. Parking it in the garage is well ahead of the curve my friend. I just park mine and don’t think about it for a second. I fish a lot in the summer so it gets aired out going down the road/and fishing. I see no need for anymore maintenance to be done.

Another braid to leader question.
Alberto knot. I hate microguides so no issues there. I use 4 foot of leader and just cut it off as I change out lures thought out the day. I like mono leaders. No flurocarbon here.

Are you still buying older reels?
I bought a 2005 chronarch the other day in a lot of 4 reels. It’s great! If I didn’t have like 11 or 12 reels already I’d keep it.

Swimbait reel?
I have been staring down a tranx 301 online a while. I am very tempted to get it. I’ve got the 401 now and I’m reading 301 is just about same size just narrower spool. The 201 k plams much easier than the 401 does. I was thinking something like bb1 pro or tatula 200 be more comfortable throwing all day. It’s really me trying to speculate without seeing 301 in person yet. Wish I could find one locally to hold.

Swimbait reel?
I actually got 3 swimbait rods off a guy for $20 total. Each needs a new eyelet. 1 victory and 2 mojo bass. Sold one mojo and gave mojo to my buddy. The tranx 401 is a great reel but a bit big/heavy for all day casting I’m thinking. It pairs up better in my 8 6 musky rod anyways. I’d really like to get into swimbait fishing this year. I’m either going ti trade for this bb1 pro or trade for a Shimano curado k hg. I’ve got the curado 200 6.2 to try as well.

Swimbait reel?
Nice! I have been looking at that tranx 301b for months. I might end up with it eventually
-
Swimbait reel?
Has anyone used a lews bb1 pro as a swimbait reel? Buddy of mine has one he’d be willing to trade me for different reel.
