Braid diameter question
When I look at braid I am worried about shock strength. 20 lb mono was used for frog fishing long ago. The hook set in most cases would not breAK the line. You try and hammer home a frog fish with 20 braid and the line is toast. The same case applies to larger baits. If you backlash on light braid the bait is gone. If you always had perfect casts then you can use much lighter line. It's all about your skill and how much risk you want to take.

Stout swimjig
You want to see a heavy duty swim jig look at war baits. There for salt and I think you could tow a car with the hook.

Good enough line for casting reel?
12 lb YHB is good all around line cheap and handles good.

I'm going to be participating in my first tournament in a couple weeks - any tips?
Three rods and one small bag is no big deal. Bring snacks and drinks and offer to boater as a kind gesture.

What's your go-to lure weight for shore fishing at a lake?
2-5 oz. Casts a good long way and I am fishing water most shore guys can't reach.

Swimbait or swimjig?
This was a huge debate on another site. What is a swimbait, or a large bait. The California swim jigs with the 5" robo trailers are a very large bait but the trailer can be fished alone. I just make a 2 Oz limit. If it's larger than 2 oz and swims under water it's a swim bait. Punkers are just large topwaters. This rule bends as a swaiver 168 is not quite 2 Oz but is a swimbait. Then you have the group that breaks evert hinges down and a glide is a glide not a sb.

Rod and Reel advice
Why not look used? Gear that's not beat up can be found all over the for sale section. Shipping on rods will hurt so finding them local or a package deal from a local guy.

Best Technique Specific Rods Under $150 ?
This is fact. Just because one company thinks a medium fast is good for a technique does not make it the right one for your liking.

Knots breaking !
So now that I got my regularly scheduled hatred of flouro out of the way, taking a systematic approach might be the best plan. Start with a flourocarbon friendly knot like the San Diego jam. Once the knot does or does not resolve the issue then try a different brand of jig. Still screwed change lines.

Only 1 Artificial Lure
Keitech 4.4 in any color you like. Fished at any depth.

Knots breaking !
Fluorocarbon is happening. Not a fan.

How often do you upgrade your gear?
Way more often than my wife likes for sure. I can't say I have just upgraded in a while, more of just growing. I only have enough for a dozen fully equipped anglers and no end in sight

Finesse spinning set up.
Wondering why people are using 3000 series reels on light weight rods. Can't imagine that makes it lite and balanced.

Don't bring a huge mess of tackle and or rods. The standard for coanglers is 5. Have your setups ready to go with your confidence lures already rigged and ready to go. Make sure your setups can be fished at a range of speeds as you have no idea of your boaters pace. A crank bait is great for this.- Getting Deps Slide Swimmer Repainted
Pizz customs does some serious paint. The bait comes in a carp pattern already so there is little value in a repaint of a color already available. I like the kata bass and it works well. The swaiver 200 weighs the same and is a lot cheaper.- Live bluegill and swimbait techniques
I pitch a trash fish gill up to shore and swim it back to the nest then just kill it and let it sit in the middle until it drives them nuts. Never use live bait got nothing there.- 7’6” vs 7’10” crankbait rod
Could get a little more distance on the longer rod but my most comfortable length to deal with and transport is 7"6". Fits well in my truck. I have an 8' and to be honest it's a great rod just a pain to deal with.- BIG topwaters
- Best rod/reel to buy?? 50% off today only!!
I will avoid being political but just say dicks is not winning any new customers in the news.- Finesse spinning set up.
Rod Fenwick elite tech mlxf. This is a wonderful rod. I did have an issue with the reel seat lock nut coming loose but I fixed that and otherwise it's great. Light sensitive and a good value. Reel I would get the fuego lt in a 2000 unless you run strait fluorocarbon the upsize to the 2500. If you could make a stretch then the tatula lt would be a better reel.- Here are my setups. What am I missing?
If your using a lot of light line in clear water I would choose a specialty rod and be done. Dont have any idea what your price range is but the lure range on the 71mlf phoenix k2 is amazing. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Phenix_K2_Torzite_Casting_Rods/descpage-PK2.html It really will toss the light baits and a 3/8th jig is no problem. It might be the king of versitility in its range and is no slouch in the sensitivity department. A different choice would be the 7mf st Croix le. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/St_Croix_Legend_Elite_Casting_Rods/descpage-LE.html The Croix i's a little more powerful and another favourite. If I was only to own one casting rod one of those two would be top of my list.- Help with trout fishing please
If your fishing in 's small pond I have had great luck trawling the little duo crankbaits. The clear gill and crome gill. Tried most of the other colors but those work the best and most often. I was using 6lb sniper. I have also done well on 3" Keitech baits on drops hot and a small ball head. In moving water the kvd 1.0 squarebills are amazing.- Easy on/off casting reel cover
I also use the tackle warehouse covers and they are worth every penny. - I'm going to be participating in my first tournament in a couple weeks - any tips?
