  1. Nice infomercial but I haven’t found tatsu to be very good for the money. For 1/2 the price I’d still choose other lines. Now if it was the price of big game or stren I would consider it again. Pro’s manageability, diameter, suppleness Cons stretch, durability, sensitivity seemed average at best
  2. Seems like us lefties are thinking with our right brain! I too am left handed but play guitar right handed and fish casting left/reeling right. Seems to be a perfect combination. You right hand people are just weird.
  3. Square bill=chartreuse black back deep=shad
  4. For the record you have heard it now. My opinion is that Dobyns rods are tip heavy. Ymmv
  5. I’m partial to falcon. I would take the falcon in a minute. Dobyns seems really well built but I think they are tip heavy and lack sensitivity. A lot of guys love them so I’m sure others will step in with a different opinion but I say give the falcon a try. You might find out you like it better than your Dobyns.
  6. The only time I get a birds nest on my spinning reel is when I actually use it. As long as it sits on the rack it’s fine. I’ll stick to casting reels until I learn to use those hateful things. Sesriouly though I think it’s the type lure that causes me problems as much as anything. Texas rigs and inline spinners give me a fit but jigs and spinnerbaits aren’t too bad. I’m sure better technique on my part would help tremendously but I never learned to use spinning gear other than for bottom rigs.
  7. I’d rather get hit with a lb of feathers than a lb of lead.
  8. Hammer 7’ hvy is slightly over 150 but might be my favorite frog rod. I sold mine and wish I had it back but I’m using a 6’10” Falcon Bucoo pitchin stick now and have been very happy.
  9. It seems that some lure company’s weight hard baits without the hooks and rings. Same with some jigs and spinnerbaits, they seem to be only weighing the lead used not the complete lure. You never really know until you weigh them yourself and what also bites is rod manufacture ratings seem off too. Once I got a feel for the ratings, or lack of, it really hasn’t remained an issue for me.
  10. I like the fogy better than strike king rage blade or the original chatterbait. They seem to stay down better and can be burned pretty fast before the blowout. I’m sure every lure has it’s pro’s and con’s but fogy’s work for me.
  11. Walmart $1 spinnerbaits are good for kids and cheap soft plastics are another good option. Plain old 1/4oz jig heads with fat Albert or Kalin’s grubs work great too. we love to buy expensive lures but old school simple/cheap lures work just as well and don’t break the bank if the get lost.
  12. I have a 6’6” bps carbonlite ml that is nice for kayaking but I’d prefer it in 7 for general bass duties. I Bought a used Dobyns champion extreme dx 702 that is about the perfect action but I don’t feel the sensitivity is that great. I should have just got a longer bps cl rod but wanted to give Dobyns a shot.
  13. I think they hit a real “dinger” with the Ocho.
  14. I have the 7’2” cara model and it’s faster than the bucoo micro trapcaster but they fish very similar to me. The 7’2” is really good for any sub 3/8 oz lures. Spinnerbait, fluke, shakey head, trig, topwater, etc. very versatile rod .
  15. Mike and his jigs are the best. All of my jigs and vibrating jigs are Sieberts and I’m slowly weeding out my spinnerbaits and replacing with them as well. I really can’t say enough about his products and customer service. The website can be a little confusing with all the models, hooks and skirts but once you figure it out his selection has to be right up there with the big name jigs if not better. My biggest bass each of the last 2 years have been on Siebert lures. I have been using Mikes lures for 2 years as well. Coincidence??? Maybe but I have confidence in them and that’s way more powerful than luck.
  16. Zoom fluke on a 5/0 offset worm hook works for me.
  17. I find tip heavy rods more fatiguing when I am working a frog or spook tip down. My favorite pond fishing frog rod (7’3”)where I worked the frog tip up due to the shoreline was the worst rod ever in my boat where I tend to work the lure tip down. I dropped back to a similar 7’ rod and problem solved. With other applications it doesn’t even seem like an issue either way. i guess tip heavy, balance, overall weight, etc are all related but can mean different things to different people. I think this thread was a good read overall and hope we can stay on track. side note...... This will probably be my favorite quote of 2019. Love it!!
  18. I have lost tip inserts from reeling all the way down on a lure and freeing stuck lures.
  19. “Lost it’s insert” is usually caused from the insert getting “busted” or a damaged guide in my experience but I’m not the OP so the insert fairies could have eaten it for all I know. I’m sorry that I assumed anything. If my rod had the fairies eat the insert I would replace it on my dime. If it fell out do to poor manufacturing I would replace it as well. If I felt I was justified in a warranty replacement I would pay $75 and move on.
  20. Busted tip is 99% user error. Pay $75 or fix it for $5.
  21. If you have to even discuss rod balance you may want to consider buying new rods.
  22. My favorite for light lures was the original tournament pro with dual braking. I’m sure the new tp will work just as well.
  23. Lews and Alx have some of the best customer service that I have ever experienced in any industry.
