Spinning Reels vs Baitcasters
No, it’s not going away anytime soon! I have not yet tried dedicated bfs, but I do prefer bait casting gear. I feel I am more accurate with it and it is more comfortable to hold and fight fish with. As a walleye and panfish convert, I have a lot of time with spinning gear. I do see some advantages with spinning. I think the drags are much better while using light line so not breaking off fish. I also feel I can throw light baits much farther with spinning gear. So far, there are just some advantages that are hard to deny. I have also seen an increase of professionals using spinning gear. I also think, with the income potential from sponsors, if bfs was that good, we would more using it. Senko master, can I ask why a screw in weight? I have always wondered and I don’t know many better to ask than you. Thanks!

New Tatula Elite Rods
I agree. You don’t hear much about them , but I like the look, hidden threads on the reel seat, and the reviews. Hopefully time is kind for them and they get it going. Thanks for the heads up.

New Tatula Elite Rods
For $170 it seems like a no brained. I was just looking at them and they seem to get rated well. If I see them on sale, I might grab one.

Man, I can’t wait. You’re making me jealous. We have to catch panfish here first anyway since our bass season doesn’t open until later. It is a fun way to open the season though. About a month and a half left. ?

New Tatula Elite Rods
I am going to check those out. Thanks.

Going bait hunting....
We did, but we have a lot to make up. We have had some crazy rain in February too. A lot of that snow melt will head your way!

Try to send some up north to Minnesota. We really need some water up here. Been low for a couple years now. Hope for some nice spring rains and nightly rains through summer.

Family Boat for Fishing
I would look for a used in good condition Alumacraft 17’ either a Competitor or something similar from them. They are great boats that are affordable. I traded one in last year for my Lund Pro V. I would not hesitate to get another Alumacraft. It worked great for my family.

A lot of my hits come away from cover
I agree^^. If fish keep hitting away from cover, I want a moving bait to cover that water. I will still flip to the cover occasionally to keep them honest though.

Time to re-spool all my stuff for the year.
Thanks! I may have to give this a try. Sounds easy. I will give Owatonna a try since it is closest to me.

Lew's Pro SP Baitcast Reel
The thing I do like about the reel is that you are putting very little line on because of the big spool. That also has its pros and cons though. It works for me as I carry 20+ rods so that reel is used strictly for pitching. Daiwa SV’s are used for skipping.

Interesting about the spinning reels. Do you just bring in the spools?

First Bait-caster Reel Recommendations
Agreed. My favorite reel is the older Zillion SV. I actually like it better then the new one ( I know that will make people wild). There is just something about how connected that reel feels. I would have a whole arsenal of those. I have heard the old SV 105 reels were unreal. I just missed out on getting some of those. Once I realized Daiwa reels were awesome, they were just phasing those out.

Wind Gust
You can certainly do it, but it brings risks and is not fun and relaxing. Launching and loading a boat in that kind of wind brings risks and headaches. Many 600 acre lakes don’t have multiple accesses allowing you to get out of the wind. Boat control, casting, feeling the bite are all harder on those days. if you fish tournaments, it is a good idea to practice in those conditions, but for fun fishing, I would avoid it. Some people have only limited days to fish and have to fish in those conditions, in that case, you may have to get out when you can. So long as you are capable of doing so safely. Good luck and hope you had a great day if you made it out there!!

First Bait-caster Reel Recommendations
Absolutely. Every time I see them at that price, I want another one or two. I have plenty, but really like them. A lot!

Do they do a good job of putting line on? I have heard horror stories so I always do it myself. Does it depend on who is working? I always spray my fluorocarbon at intervals as I put it on my reels. I am just curious as it must work well for you.

New Tatula Elite Rods
I agree! I really like a black stealth fighter look the best. I don’t like any thread designs or anything. Just simple and get the job done well. I don’t mind the Tatula Elites etc, but agree that bright neon rods are no bueno. I don’t want to draw attention when I set the hook. I like to stay more incognito.

First Bait-caster Reel Recommendations
I agree. I actually think the Tatula SV is more controlled than my Zillion SV. You can find these for $139.99 at times if you look around. The Tatula SV would be a great choice for your first baitcaster!!

Lew's Pro SP Baitcast Reel
I used this reel last year. I ended up not really liking it. The Daiwa Tatula SV is waaaaay better at managing line while skipping and pitching. I really like Lews reels, this one just didn’t work nearly as well as the Daiwa SV.

Power Pole Move
True. I just hope with more competition, it might drive down prices for all. Not saying it will, but hopeful. Nothing seems to be dropping anywhere however.

weighted wacky hooks.
The best used to be Revenge Flippin Wackers. Stout hook, solid brush weed guard, and recessed line tie. They stopped making them about 3 years ago. Still makes me sad. I loved those. Haven’t found exactly what I want yet. Have tried a lot of them. A kind member sent me some of his, and they were really nice, but I struggled with the circle hook and no weed guard. I am going to try a few more and see what is out there. I still have like 5 packs of the Flippin Wackers that I only use in tournaments now. I even contacted Mike at Siebert Outdoors about making something like them. Good luck in your search!

That’s crazy! I know it’s a big event and Tonka has big ones, but that is unreal. They must have those spring spawners figured out.

This tab on the forum is really water torture for us northern fisherman and should probably be banned from December- April. Just sayin

2023 MN Season Thread
Can’t wait to get in the open water for crappies. It can’t come soon enough. I don’t drink or smoke, etc, but this fishing addiction and withdrawals are horrible. 15+ crappies are awesome. True trophy around here. Have caught them up north, but haven’t done it down here……….yet! Good luck on Tonka May 6.

Power Pole Move
$5,000 seems crazy, especially since it not proven yet. I also agree there will be a learning curve in making their first trolling motor. The one thing I would say is this, Power Pole has been known to have the best customer service in the business. That alone will have some people trusting this purchase.
