  1. What is wrong with snaps? I have only fished them a few times last year. Caught bass and some big pike without issue. What snaps should I use and why? Thanks fellas.
  2. But……….only 5 colors.
  3. Agreed. Shiners rule the spring. Except this year it seems. I don’t fish walleyes as often either. But my buddies fish them a lot. They haven’t quite been able to get the production using artificials as much as live bait, but they don’t really struggle either.
  4. Not even sure I will gather any. Depends on the supply and what trips I plan. I still like leeches better, even under a cork. Easier to throw in the cooler and keep them for days. I hope they don’t have shortage on those too.
  5. I agree with fish biting right before and during the front (change). I am going to pay more attention this year in a journal and see what the numbers say. Since you fish muskies, do you ever get to Waconia? I grew up on that lake.
  6. I have always heard that if the animals are active, the fish will bite better. I have seen that for sure. While driving to the lake, if the deer, squirrels, pheasants, etc. are out, my fishing is good. When I don’t see much wildlife, it has been a struggle.
  7. Thanks. I will add that to my list!!
  8. Thanks. I don’t ever need more than 144 minnows. There are a couple places around here where you can catch thousands. I don’t even use a lot of live bait. But bobber fishing walleyes at night when we are tired is awesome. Except when the bite gets crazy. Then it is like the three stooges during a fire drill.
  9. I might have to throw some minnow traps again. I use more leaches in summer anyway because they are easier to deal with. It is sad though that a state where fishing is so important to the economy might have problem like this.
  10. bankc, this makes some sense. Thanks for the info. I am going to see if I can track pressure this year. Just might be interesting. I always say I am going to log every trip, and always fail to do so. Maybe this is the year. I love learning this stuff.
  11. My goal is to catch a 7 lb. Minnesota or North Iowa bass. I have been close at 6lb. 10 ounces. They are hard to come by, but I am hoping.
  12. Weekends have been horrible. Parking on a highway and walking half a mile is not fun. Having summers off is a big advantage. It really allows you to catch more and bigger fish and enjoy fishing a lot more. My buddies can only fish weekends most of the time, so I get stuck on weekends once in a while. Would be fun to see you guys up there sometime. Big lake makes that tough. Good luck!!
  13. Wow, does that familiar!! ?
  14. Yep, that was the story. Tournament weights were way down there too. It is a Great Lake. Just over 3 hours drive for me. Still don't get up there that often. Largemouth lakes around me give up 20 lb bags so it keeps me busy.
  15. Hopefully the bite improves a little this year. Last year was tougher than normal. Too many little perch. I will probably be up there while you are there. Good luck!!
  16. Wow, just checked out that color. Looks amazing to represent a bluegill!!
  17. A man after my own taste. SV reels everywhere. Nice set ups for the 13.
  18. A beetle spin is my memory bait. My dad taking me out on the pontoon, catching a limit of crappies and bluegills on beetle spins and putting them in the basket. Then anchoring the pontoon, grilling up fish, and going for a swim. Then popping jiffy pop popcorn on the same grill over worn coals. Listening to Paul Harvey on the radio and pitching sleeping bags and spending the night on the lake. Priceless for me.
  19. The most important rule in bass fishing is………………..there are no rules. Really though, there are ideas and suggestions, but they are different for different people, lakes, fish, conditions, etc, etc, etc. I think you have to find finesse tactics that fit your area, conditions, style, and confidence level. Most of them will work.
  20. Glass lenses getting hit by weights or lures and causing damage. And they fall in the water when on my head. I am just not into all the hype about them. They are fine, just not really that big of deal.
  21. I have two pairs of glass Costas. I am not overly impressed. They are clear and made well, but I was not blown away by it. I got them on a great sale. I also have Smith sunglasses with glass lenses. Being a cue ball (bald), I put them up on my head when I walk inside etc. Those heavy glass lenses put dents in my skull and fall off way too easily. I also don’t trust them fishing. Heard too many horror stories. I still keep them in the truck to use driving, but would not buy more.
  22. That would be bad for me. I might weigh a lot more.
  23. I am a high school coach and we have stopped twice in the same day at Culvers!! Once on way there, and again on the way home. It is a hit around here in Minnesota too.
