  1. So for those of you who fish these more, is there a depth limit for you to fish them? I read about mixed results with a bobber in deeper water mostly to suspend in water column it seems but nothing really in my readings about depth preference. Right now im normally pulling out 10" worms and dropping them off ledges and/or dropping off into channels on big lakes. I just wonder how well these would work in 15'+ of water. I was only throwing in 1-5' last weekend and had trouble detecting bites at times. It seems to me this would be worse with deeper water. Is deeper water normally done and something i can do later with more experience detecting bites or generally not done?
  2. To me its just like the debate on lines. There is no clear winner, just personal preferences, comfort and best for particular lure/technique. They all have their advantages and disadvantages. I prefer baitcaster for most lures over 3/16oz and everyday fishing overall. I prefer spinners for balsa cranks, weightless rigs, and small light lures. I cant throw a 1/8oz roostertail on a bc to save my life but its a breeze on a spinner. At the same time if i threw 40# braid with a frog in thick grass i would just kill my drag with a spinner but winch right on out with a bc. Its a matter of using the best tool for the job. Most folks i know that are good fishermen will use both to their strengths.
  3. X2. I have a 7ft med-mod blue ethos and its my go to crank rod now. I bought it as a "this will so for now" budget rod but have been very pleased with it that its been pushed to backburner on upgrading.
  4. Yea. Repainting store bought lures is very common. Takes some sanding to dull the factory clear for something for new pain to stick to. Then primer/basecoat and then paint. Its more expensive this way due to extra step in painting plus cost of lure but you end up with more tried and true lures over a generic knockoff blank.
  5. I checked earlier and its about the same for me for an ace or senko. Im able to get senkos for $5.99/10 and ace is $$4.50/8 lso its a few cents diffrence. I have tried tiki sticks, zoom, and a few more as a topwater "chaser" rigged wacky for spring but none worked as well on their own like the senko did. Only other weightless worm that has worked for me before is a pacacraw and its no bettter as far as durability with its flippers.
  6. Yea. I have tried a few others and fished them wacky as a chaser in the spring for topwater hits. Nothing like the senko though. I was wrong when i figured "eh these are close enough".
  7. yesterday i began my "practical exams" on fishing senkos. I have been reading and reading all i can on here about fishing them up til now, so many thanks to the folks on here for the wealth of knowledge. Yesterday though it was time for some real world learning though. So i did it the way i always have when wanting to learn a new technique, i left the other stuff at home and took ONLY the new lures. I stuck only to rigging it weightless and texsposed for now. Here are the things i learned yesterday at my buddys pond: 1. hot-a-mighty do they work !!! Yesterday was one of the best days in a long while for numbers of bass. Biggest i landed was about 2.5lbs but i broke off a few bigger. Overall i caught 20+ in about 4 hours from 4-dark. I missed many many more though. 2. I defenitly need to switch to braid over the mono i was using. I used some late on the rod i was letting my gf use and it was easier for me to feel strikes as well as the color (hi vis yellow power pro) was much easier to see for checking fall rate and twitches. I was using 8# mono and broke off repeatedly. It was my only spinning reel, but im researching now for a a better one in the $100 range. I had already upgraded rod to fish these. 3. Due to the softness they will be pricey to use. i was like most i saw in research and only getting 1-2 fish per worm. I do have some mend it glue already i use to do "leg transplants" on my paca craws and will be trying it in the next day or so to extend the life of the broken ones i was able to recover. 4. I am going to have to get better at detecting strikes and bites earlier since too often i had deep hooks where the fish was already trying to swallow it. I hate doing that to fish. I am a catch and release only guy and i try to be mindful to minimize time out of water. I want it to become a bigger fish next time. 5. I am a beleiver now and look forward to learning more to add this to my arsenal of lures and tecniques i use to catch fish... I welcome comments and tips, especially money savers, on other ideas and things i can do to better myself at this.
  8. In the $100 range i would look at the iwata eclipse cs. You can find it at hobby lobby with a 40% coupon or often at coast airbrush as a used classroom airbrush.
  9. I prefer a rapala knot on my cranks unless im using a snap or floro. If i have a snap its an improved trilene. If its floro its a "shaw grigsby" knot. Idunno the name but he hasna utube video showing how to tie it.
  10. Ive known a few folks who repowered with a new motor on an older boats. They still really liked the boats but motor wore out. If you are still pleased with your boat and a new one like you want is out of budget it seems like a better option than a newer boat you may be unhappy with. Of the 2 i know who did repower the one who upgraded to a pro xs has been happier due to better fuel economy and the easier starting. The other guy went with an xr6 merc and been happy with it but still kinda wishes he had spent for an injected over carb motor.
  11. Ive loaded on spots with a chartreuse pepper zoom shakey tail but another go to for me is a paca craw. Its like those flippers on it stand up, wave back n forth, and say "neener neener neener, you cant eat me" and triggers a strike too.
  12. Id say rod. Im in the middle of upgrading all my combos currently and im starting with the rods. That and mild home supertuning has made a diffrence on fishability for me personally.
  13. In floor right in front of platform the drivers seat is on. Easy to reach anytime but out of way as well.
  14. X3 when i was learning how to use cranks on riprap the rule was and still is "if you aint getting hung up, you aint where the fish are either"
  15. 1/4oz tungsten swim jig. Black with a flippin blue paca chunk. Ole faithful.
  16. Paca craw.

Slightly slack with the rod down has worked for me.
  18. Black spinnerbait with a large colorado blade. Chunk. Reel. Hold on.
  19. To me it works best when prefishing or preparing for a tourny. Last thing you want to wast time on the clock looking. I do feel it can help catch more fish but it also allows me to skip over other areas when im not seeing activity or cover. Its a good tool when used properly.

What ever they will hit. My preference is cranks or spinnerbaits, but ill throw a cow patty on a hook if thats what they are wanting at the time.
  21. Yep. I just modified it a lil to suit my needs. Stretched it to 4' wide and skipped the pegs on sides. Also spaced the notches out to 4" center id post a pic but idunno how from my phone.
  22. I have a bass pro bag that holds 7 3700 boxes. I have 5 3700 with cranks, jigs, and spinners, a 3600 of hooks, weights, etc.. and a gallon ziplock bag with my confidence worms and trailers in their origional bags. In the front pocket i keep my sissors, pliers, kvd line spray, and a digital scale.
  23. I prefer a vertical rack myself. I built mine 4'wide and holds 11 rods with reels no problem. It was cheap to make out of 2 8' 1x6. It was about $6 a board at lowes for treated boards. I was more concerned with price than appearances. I got the plans from minwax under a google search for diy rod racks. I just adjusted the spacing between the holes to work better. My next one will be with a 1x10 sides and be able to hold rods on both sides.
  24. Try a frog double stinger hook.
