new spinning rod for senkos
Got some time on lake this weekend with the new dobyns champion. Cast very well and smooth. Did notice a bit of noise from line going through eyes, even with slick8 power pro. Not enough to worry about though. I really liked the guides overall. I tried repeatedly to tangle line around eyes and each time it slipped right on down with no effort. Unfortuantly i cannot say how it handles a fish, got skunked. That just makes want to go back and figure pond out more, since this was only my 2nd time on it. Overall i am impressed and extremely pleased with it so far. I will defintly be looking more at other rods from dobyns.

Which Pflueger Spinner in 6:2:1 ratio?
I have a pair of supremes in the 30 size and love them. Silky smooth. Only adjustment ive made to them is removing a shim under the spool to get the line to spool evenly. Both are spooled with braid, one for senkos and the other for topwater. I wouldnt hesitate to buy a 3rd if i needed a new spnning reel for something.

Music in the boat?
I have bluetooth headphones i use alot the time when fishing, especially pond fishing. It was one of main reasons i purchased them to begin with. I have a waterproof bluetooth speaker i use some as well if its not just me fishing, especially in the fall on gamedays. I fish to relax, and the music helps take my mind off things and relax. I have used the bluetooth one in a kayak and still caught fish so im not as worried about the noise as i once was.

new spinning rod for senkos
Rod came in today. Got to go home at my lunch break and spool it up with 15# power pro slick8 and an old senko at lunch. I was immediately impressed with how light it is. Threw it a few times in yard and felt really good. Planning to get some time on water with it tomorrow at a small pond. So far so good.

What is your tackle organization "philosophy"?
I have a stackable drawer system from walmart i keep my spare and newer lures in to replenish my tackle bag. Its a 3 drawer and i keep terminal tackle, jigs, and plastics in bottom one, hard baits in middle, wire baits in top, and line stacks neatly on top. I try to keep a running list of whats in there in each drawer and a list on my phone of needs. I found this helps (but not cures) me keep the bait monkey from filling my cart with stuff i dont need. As the season change or i lose lures i replenish and try to keep my tackle bag current. Its just a bps bag that holds 7 or 8 3700 boxes. In it i keep 6 boxes and a gallon bag of my favorite/confidence plastics. The 5 boxes are labled and are: terminal tackle hooks, weights, etc.. Topwater Jigs Wirebaits Shallow cranks Med and deep cranks

Lily Pads
Ive done well working it over with a wacky senko, dropping it in between pads. Often i will try a faster topwater lure through them and if one blows up i will follow back in same spot with the senko.

Splitting fuel and other costs with a regular partner
Wow. I cant beleive the launch fees some of yall pay. Im spoiled i guess. I have 5 lakes i can be on in under 2hr drive. Fees are free - $3-5 for me anywhere i go. The alabama power ramps at the dam are free and most other privately owened public use launches are 4 or 5. @clh121787 that would aggrevate most anyone as well. If someone invites me i try to be 5 min early and bring a few bottles of water or gatorade for sharing as well as my own use. I keep a tub of pop tarts, crackers, chips, granola bars, etc... for work snacks in my truck and offer whomever i go with their choice of what they want.

Crankbait rod question
The slower action with a sweeping motion hookset seems to work better for really for getting a good hookset for me. Since ive began doing that and using slower action rods i feel like i have less fish get off after initial hookset. I prefer a medium rod for most cranks except a med-hvy for deeper divers.

Splitting fuel and other costs with a regular partner
Yea i normally do most of the driving nowdays when dad and i go. We started that years ago before he retired and would often try to get paperwork for work done on way. It was also a way for me to help him relax and have a cold one and let me handle it. Afternoon fishing trips is when he taught me the ONLY way to drink n drive. We would stop and get a beer and he would say "im gonna drink, you are gonna drive". I think when i was a teen doing it he needed it to calm his nerves teaching me how to pull a trailer and now he does it because its a way he can relax more, especially before he retired.

Looking into sunglasses
Do some research on lens colors from diffrent mfg's and decide what tint you want for your preferred fishing/life style. The diffrent colors and tints are not uust for show and appeal. Same with lens material, glass or plastic. Each has andvantages and disadvantages. Glass weigh more but are normally much better optically and more scratch resistant. Plastic weigh less and are still amazing optically on higher end companies like costa, oakley, etc.. Try on multiple pairs in person and see how they fit, cover and protect your eyes, and lastly fit your facial structure. If you find a style or brand you like make notes as to frame names as well as lens material. Also check on "keepers" such as neck bands and such. If you have a style you prefer, try glasses on with it on as well since often they affect how they feel when wearing them, espeically right behind ear. If you are good at keeping up with things like good glasses dont be afraid to spend more for a top quality pair, they will last a lifetime possibly if cared for. If you are more laxidasical with things spend less since there is a good chance they may get lost or broken.

Splitting fuel and other costs with a regular partner
My dad is still my favorite fishing partner. Always has been, since the time he bought us a new set of baitcast combos 30 years ago (neither of us having a clue how to use them) til now and beyond . We both often fish with other folks nowdays, many of whom are far better than either dad or i ever will be, but we are both still our favorite fishing partner. Normally when either of us goes and finds new lure, technique, spot, etc.. we show the other our next trip out together. Growing up dad always paid everything, especially before i became of working age. As i have grown older i have began paying more and more torwards gas and such, as well as all my own tackle and gear nowdays. Its technically his boat, even though i use it far more nowdays since he is usually golfing more. What has become our routine is to fill the boat back up with gas after a trip out to keep a full tank. This keeps us at small more frequent fill ups instead of a less often and more expensive 40 gallon fill up. Last year we adopted a new plan for deciding who pays to refill boat. Loser buys gas. We dont tourney fish, just fun but we keep a tally of 4 best fish for day, since our rapala scale will record 8 fish. Man with biggest fish also doesnt pay for truck fuel either. We found this to be a fun and fair way to split cost without having to remember who paid last time, as well as freindly competition between us. With other guys i fish with we do it diffrently, depending on who i am with. With a few we alternate whose rig we take, taking turns pulling own rig, owner paying all fuel, co-angler buys biscuits. Others we always use their much newer, bigger, and nicer boats and i either pull with my truck or give them gas money, $20 minimum up to as much as $50 depending on distance to lake and fuel prices. Out of curiosity how do others of you split costs with a regular partner or co-angler?

new spinning rod for senkos
Thats my plan. I know the st croix will work for me but i want to see what the fuss on the dobyns is all about. My dad ordered a rage 6'10"m-xf yesterday as well for throwing the same lures. So we may have a lil head to head comparisons going there. Especially since we ordered a bigger spool of braid to split between us for them.

new spinning rod for senkos
It came down to the same rod in a standard avid, not the avid x since i do not like micro eyes, and the dobyns champion, and i got a champion. I have the standard 6'8" m-xf avid casting rod as my worm rod and love it. I wanted to try the dobyns champ since i have heard basicly nothing but good things on them, and how they were veiwed as slghtly better than the avids.

Go To Topwater Bait?
Home built buzzbait with a squeeeeeeky 4 blade prop. Popr Frog At the end of the day id throw a cow patty on a hook if i thought it would work topwater. Its just the most exciting way to bass fish to me. Especially when you watch one explode on it at the surface kinda like a mini "airjaws". Love that show on sharkweek. Lol

What's a good fluorocarbon line
Ilike invisx and abrasx for cranks. For bottom contact i prefer a higher end line like tatsu or shooter. Biggest thing to remember is to use kvd line n lure religiously. I spray it on about halfway in while im spooling, put a extra good shot on after i spool, and when i am prepping my gear again nite before i go. I will even add a spritz if my rods are sittting for a while between uses. If i manage my backlashes and keep it sprayed i can get a year out of high end lines like tatsu and 6months or more out of the invisx and abrasx.

new spinning rod for senkos
I actually ended up going with the dobyns champion. I have always heard nothing but good things about them. I am in trouble with the boss (paying for it big time in 2 weeks on vday) for going over budget but forgivness was easier than permission. It really came down to it or the avid. I just decided that if for some reason i wasnt as pleased, i can always sell the dobyns and go back to st croix. I was a lil hesitant to try the megabass when i havent seen any reveiws on it good or bad really and i dont have the funds to be a guinnea pig. I am still intrigued by the falcon but have seen a small sample, but mixed reveiws on them.

Buzzbait on flouro?
Ive had mixed results. I had the top eye of my buzzbait stick crack and had to use my spinnerbait rod which had floro on it rest of trip. I found it depends on the style and size blade and retreive speed especially. If just zipping it across floro is fine. I prefer to use a larger 4 blade single prop and roll it as slow as i can to keep it on top and squeeking along. I had to reel it a lil bit faster than i prefer on floro.

Flambeau or Plano
Both. Along with bass pro shops. Looking at bait coffins but im not sure i can convince myself to spend that much. Only complaint ive ever seen on the coffins is price though.

Knives and headlamps
I normally just carry my streamlight strion for a light. I carry it everyday for work, i just throw in a red or green filter for fishing after dark and only use if needed to preserve my ntural vision at nite. I always have a larger one handed opener, baby swiss with sissors, and have a multitool in tacklebox. I just keep a pair of needlenose in my back pocket for hooks. On the boat i also have a large fixed blade for cutting limbs and such quickly when needed, several needlenose, and another multi tool plus a small toolkit in a waterproof box.

February Bass Fishing
Another thing i like to do is also downsize my lines to as low as 6lb and i use floro as well unless its topwater. Normaly in warmer months im using 10+ lb test and a mix of floro, mono, and braid.

new spinning rod for senkos
Hmm. May have to look at the dobyns. If i do get the avid, it will be the standard model, not the avid x. I do not like micro guides. Too easy to miss thread and have had problems with them freezing up this time of year.

new spinning rod for senkos
i was not overly impressed with the zodias when i held one. It seemed too slow of an action for what i what. I'm looking for preferably an ex-fast. I also do not like the fact that its only a 1yr warranty. I've basically spent the day researching more and have eliminated the g loomis's and the savvy from my search. I also kind of believe my interest on the megabass is based more on brand appeal than anything. I am very familiar with the avid, but the powell and phenix intrigue me if i could get more for my money, or at least equal performance, at a lower cost than the established reputation of the avids.

new spinning rod for senkos
i am looking at a new spinning rod for throwing senkos on. my budget is $200 firm, i dont care if such n such is only $X more, it wont matter. Im looking for lightweight, super sensitive, and best performance for price. It will be paired with a pflueger supreme 30 reel and 15 or 20lb power pro slick8 with a 10-12lb flor leader. I have searched around and have not been able to find much on the megabass or the max 3d. I have one avid casting and love it, but am still wondering about others in price range and how they compare. I have narrowed my choices down to the following: megabass levante stinger st croix avid dobyns savvy powell max 3d g loomis e6x dropshot g loomis gl2 dropshot phenix bass recon 2

Fuel Gauge
Ours has not worked in years. Tank will be full and it wont show 1/4 tank. Ours is under the seats and has no access or even a way to see it. What works for us is to keep the boat full, and refill it after a trip or two depending on how much we run it. It also keeps the expense to a few gallons every so often over 40+ gallons at a time, plus little room for vapor to condense and get water mixed in.
