  1. One of my fishing partners just bought a phoenix 921 and went with the SHO. Said it had a wider power band that started at lower rpm. Its a 250 and purrs at 65 with power n speed to spare. He had a 225 proXS on last boat and wanted the SHO this time around. One thing he did mention is that it seems to be a touch better on fuel economy and no problems with mixing fuel or auto system problems, but oil changes would be over $100. He still is pleased more with the yamaha tho.
  2. Both when fishing offshore structure. Find and mark on gps/imaging. Then drop bouy and back off to fish. Bouy keeps me in casting distance better.
  3. Personal preference. If you are only using one kind, its easy to remeber what its spooled with, and cheaper buying bulk spool. I personally like braid for my senkos ( easy to see hi vis yellow line watching) and topwater lures. Most everything else i use flouro. I liked the increased sensitivity in braid on worms n jigs, but was costing a fortune in breakoffs when fishing some of the rocky areas i like to fish. Flouro for me has been more abraision resistant with out going to gazillion pound test braid. I
  4. i just picked up a (non pink) 30 size for my fiance. I have 2 same size supremes and really like that size, especially with braid. I paired hers with an ethos rod from acadamy i was using for senkos til i recently upgraded to a dobyns champion. The ethos rod was suprisingly great for money. I have 2 more baitcasters i use for cranks.
  5. we just upgraded ours to a 80# 24v fortrex and wish we had done it sooner. The one it replaced still worked, and is stored as a spare, but its the origional OMC 24v motor that came on the boat in 93. went from 3 speeds to variable. HUGE change in battery life, much longer, as well as no longer problems with being between speeds in any condition.
  6. Several good bank spots just down the road at lake eufaula too.
  7. I am on team pflueger as well. Ive never noticed my supremes flexing at all.
  8. If you happen to throw one in freezing conditions (unlikely with a frog) the micro eyes will also freeze up quickly as well. Had that problem with a duckett winter fishing.
  9. I prefer a slower speed one for cranks or spinners alot of the time, especially in the winter. Its all i use on cranks over 9ft year round.
  10. I keep it simpler and only use a few lines. If its clear line on a crank or wire its 12# invisx. Green mono on a crank or wire is 10# sufix seige All yellow braid is 15# power pro slick8 Green braid is 40# 832 for my frog. Worm n jig rods get 16# sniper. Occasionally in the winter i will drop down to 8# and will use invisx then as well but its only on 2 crank rods.
  11. Swimming a craw topwater basicly and chasing missed blowups with a wacky senko. If im not kicking up mud with TM im too deep.
  12. Yea. Im borrowing an inspection camera from work this weekend before i order one. Its the only way to access it without cutting in to it.
  13. What i do when i really want to learn something new is take it and only it. Leave the other gear at home. If i take my regular gear i tend to give up n go back to what works too quickly and wont give new tactic a fair chance.
  14. i am getting ready to install one of these in my boat. I am wondering what brands and styles folks on here who have done it recommend. I am looking at the comfort troll on tackle warehouse but i am not sure if i need the regular or shallow mount one. It is for a 84# MK fortrex. I like the color options available to get a white one to match boat.
  15. I use slick8 yellow 15# on senkos and only use a flouro leader in clear, heavy pressure water. I have used it with no leader in a spring fed gin clear pond after breaking off leader with no noticable change in bites. In the stained big water lakes i fish i have not noticed much diffrence. One of my buddies uses flouro and we dont notice much diffrence. I just prefer the yellow for easier line watching.
  16. Dad and I just ordered from seibert and got the extreme brush jigs. I like the design for where i like to fish and love the trokar hook. They arrived yesterday and look great. Very happy with our order so far and i know i plan to order more again.
  17. I guess a lot of my dissapointment stems from being spoiled by having acadamy sports close by. Much better regular prices and selection. Just not alot of higher end rods.
  18. I like a red lure the most in the spring. I just have more confidence in it then. My go to spring cranks are all red based. Ive just normally had the best results with them. In the fall i prefer a white or light colored crank. I even have a couple red spinnnerbaits that are effective at times depending on water color. For spots chartreuse is my go to color year round.
  19. i use 16# sniper for my worm n jig rods and really like it. I just ordered more for this year Only line ive liked better is tatsu, but i dont like it as much as seaguar does. For cranks and spinnerbaits i use invisx and have for a few years now. One thing i really reccomend is ordering some kvd line n lure spray and use it. I spray mine as im spooling it, and again every nite before i go again.
  20. Most folks i know still use rod socks, stick jackets, etc.. over rods even with putting them in tubes. The socks help the rods slide in and out easier without catching or bending an eye. With that being said try them loose with rod socks over them before you order a new part or anything.
  21. I prefer a paca craw myself.
  22. I agree. I know of several guys still using them to this day. Seems about a year or two before duckett left is when they went to crap. Older ones when they had the origional free replacement warrenty at any vendor were good rods.
  23. Changes with lures. If i jave to choose i normally go with lower speed since its easier for me to speed up my handle speed than slow down. My normal choices are High speed (7:1+) for bottom contact like worm/jig. I like to take up slack in line as fast as possible to keep some tension for better feel. Medium speed (6.2:1) for most running lures like cranks and wirebaits as well as topwater Lower speed (5.2:1) for deeper cranks as well as wire baits and cranks in colder weather to slow roll them.
  24. I use a lot of flouro. All of my cranks, spinnerbait, jig, and worms are tied to flouro. I use braid for topwater. I prefer flouro now for its sinking properties and sensitivity. Most of the water i fish is too dingy for the decreased visibilty to be a factor. I learned early on to not get cheap with kvd line n lure. As im spooling i spray some halfway through, and a good dousing when im done spooling. Then again every nite before i go fishing next day. I use invisx 10 or 12# for most and 16# sniper on contact lures. Doing this i normally get at least a full season out of it with no problems.
