  1. My favorite is weiss lake. For one reason: coosa spots!! Second favorite is lake eufaula. We go in march every year before the lilypads come up. That trip is as much or more about the atmosphere and group of guys that make the trip. Some of them have been making the trip for their 42nd year consecutively in a few weeks. The fishing can be hit or miss depending on the weather leading up to trip and if they are prespawn or already on bed.
  2. Me and one of my fraternity brothers were fishing at my usual local private lake. When we pulled up another guy was there fishing for catfish. While we were getting out our gear he hooks and breaks off on one. He decided then he was done for day. Several hours later, my buddy hooks one dragging a tex rig. He gets it in and ita the catfish the guy broke off on earlier. My buddys hook had caught in the eye of the weight on the steel leader. Ended up being a nice 10lb catfish we kept and he fried up.
  3. I have recently began using just good deli meat, cheese and wrapping it in tortilla bread. I found that if a use a good quality deli meat, i can skip condiments and it stays fresher without soggyness. I stole the idea from a prepackaged in the store by the deli meat packages called rev wrap. I will definitly be taking a few on long trips out this year.
  4. i have a lot of columbia gear and love it. I cant speak on that line of gear, i have frogg toggs rain gear myself. All but a few of my fishing shirts are columbia pfg, all with a good upf rating for sun protection. I also have windproof jackets, and several fleece jackets and items from columbia, and its always been good stuff. I have heard nothing but good things on simms gear as well like @Glenn mentioned, but it is out of my price range.
  5. I agree with the above posts. If you can get a pflueger supreme go for it, second choice would be a pflueger president. I have 2 supremes and wouldnt hesitate to get a 3rd if i needed it. My dad and brother in law have presidents i jave used and they are really great too.
  6. Yes. One of the 2 i have pictured did have a same size regular willow. I swapped them out on the lake and there is a diffrence. The blades shown have noticably more thump to them.
  7. What i would do is keep it simple and easy to begin with and get a zebco 33 combo. Its nothing fancy but it works and easy for him to learn with. I would start him out crappie fishing with minnows n bobbers and then move to rooster tails and moving baits. Make sure he really enjoys it before i began spending very much money.
  8. X2. I used one for senkos til 2 weeks ago when i upgraded to a dobyns champion. Worked very well. The ethos line are pretty good for their price.
  9. Does anybody have an idea of where to find these? They were my go to and favorite blades for years. Im down to my last 2. Loooks very similar to a willow except at split ring end they had indentions like an arrowhead. Stamped on them were "ultra vibe". Had more vibration like a colorado but thinner bait-like profile and flash of the willow.
  10. I went as well and was disapointed too. I picked up a few things but not much. Just a few new cranks and found a pack of 6/0 trokars for $3. Most everything else there is way too overpriced for me. Wanted to pick up a spool of sufix but it was $3-4 a spool higher for a 330yd sppol compared to pretty much everywhere else. Its really not worth the hour drive anymore to go anytime for me. I can go to acadamy any day and find waht i want for less.
  11. I did that last year. I was actually crappie fishing with a kids transformers pole. Caught one just over 7lb on 6# test. It was a lot of fun. Good gosh was it a lot of reeling on that thing. It must only be a 2:1 ratio or something.
  12. Im not sure how it compares to 832, but its good stuff. Its my go to line for senkos as well as topwater.
  13. I normally keep the skirt and use a fat albert grub on it. I try to get the tail to follow hook curve, only a 1/2" behind hoook.
  14. First thing i do to all my cranks is replace the front line tie ring to an oval one. I save the round ones for replacing bad ones one hooks. Other than that i often just replace the rear hook to a short shank a size larger than stock.
  15. I do something similar too. I actually pile mine in a certain spot on boat if im in it or in corner of truck bed if bank fishing. At the end of day i gather them up and put them with my other fishing gear. Then i just pick a nite and mend-it what i can and reuse them. Some i keep and frankenstein some together, especially paca craws.
  16. X2. I keep it to confidence colors and styles/brands. I keep my stockplie of favorites and the rest of them in a plastic 3 drawer organizer stand from wallyworld.
  17. Lc sammys and gunfish Cavitrron buzzbaits Booyah or *** frogs Squarebills Swimbaits 95% of my fishing is under 15ft. I love topwater bite. Its just more exciting.
  18. I currently use 10# power pro moss green on my ultralight setups. No leaders either. My buddy uses 4# stren and we couldnt tell a diffrence in amount of bites using same color lures. Even in gin clear creeks. So its worth a shot to try the braid without a leader first.
  19. I dont fish tourneys but am often on water 8hrs or so in spring and fall. I keep more than plenty of gatorade and water on ice in cooler. Normally i get a biscuit on the way and just grab some crackers, granola bars, and a can of chips out of my work snack stash i keep in my truck. Its what i snack on everyday at work.
  20. Paca craw. Also use a zoom shakey head worm with curly tail.
  21. I go through and clean up reels, reorganize lures, buy too much stuff, etc.. when its colder out. Im in alabama so we can basicly fish year round if you have cold weather gear and/or pick nicer days. Hunting season also helps bass fever for me, well til i get enough deer to fill freezer for the year anyway.
  22. X2 for me. I normally keep mine in origional bags as well in the gallon ziplock. I narrow it down to just my confidence colors/styles to keep weight and amount down. I usually just have 4 freezer bags, worms, senko, jig trailer, and lizard/creatures. Each bag has a strip of blue painters tape labling it in sharpie.
  23. I have 3. First is to fish with some guys who really know and understand how to read the si/di equipment and really learn how to use it fully to my advantage. Spent too much money on it not to be able to take advantage of it. Second is to start fishing more places on my local lakes, rather than fishing same spots, same launch, etc.. i have used for years. Really get out and learn the lake, not just my comfort areas. Third is to learn to flip better. Really concentrate on being able to put a lure were i want and barely make a splash when it lands. I am fairly accurate with a baitcaster but normally not very subtle on the landings. I know this is probably costing me fish.
  24. Main thing keeping me off the most is budget. Seems i either have time or money, rarely both. Higher winds will keep me off as well. I have an older boat that does not handle whitecaps very well and its not worth the beating it and i take in those conditions. Winter i fish more in ponds than in the boat because i can usually find fish without the bone chilling ride down the lake. I also do not fish midday in the summers. The heat, sun, and humidity are no joke around here in alabama. I am learning early from older guys i know who fished alot and am taking precautionary steps to avoid the melonoma and sunspots they currently deal with from too many years fishing all day in just a pair of shorts. I try to cover as much skin as possible with upf gear rated 30 and up, most of my shirts are upf50. Wide brim hat, glasses, and sungaiter as well.
  25. Depends on what you plan to use it for to me. If for worms, jigs, etc where sensitivity is key the ltb is a better option. For reaction or moving baits the avid would be fine. Its still a great rod and more than sensitive enough. I personally prefer the regular avid over the avid x. Im not a fan of micro eyes.
