  1. KVD to me is like Dale jr is to nascar. It doesnt matter how he does in the weeks/year competitions, he will maintain his sponsorships and such due to his popularity, ability to at least be in hunt for title, and mostly his ability to move products he endorses. He seems to have a loyal fanbase, as well as the name recognition, despite not being the "best", but good enough to be competitive. Most sponsorships are not about who places well, its about marketing and money. Who can move product and generate sales.
  2. X2. Batteries neex to be identical twins. Same age, brand, size, etc... I just upgraded from an old 12/24v omc motor to a fortrex 80 like you are looking at and love it. Between the lift assist and infinite speeds its something we wish we had done sooner. Battery life during day is better plus we are never between speeds.
  3. We have always had a bicycle/leaning pedastal up front. Im hoping since we got a recessed mount for the TM pedal we can do with out it more. The "captain morgan" pose with top mount pedal kept us off balance. Other boats ive fished out of with the drop mount ive had no problems seatless unless its rediculous on wind/traffic in area rocking boat. Im sure my dad will still want the seat more so than myself though.
  4. Im using 16# for my jigs and tex rigs, 15# yellow power pro slick 8 for visibilty on senkos. Only flouro ive liked better for jigs n tex rigs was tatsu, but its not in my budget. One thing i will reccomend is kvd line n lure spray and use it regularly, on any flouro. I spray it when i spool and again each bite before i go fishing the next day.
  5. X2. It takes only a few seconds to rig one up. I normally just carry bag of worms that im using in a back pocket and a weight in my pocket and extra hook on belt loop. Only exception is prerigging o rings on senkos occasionally, just so i can put a few in a shirt pocket and not have to tote o rings and tool around.
  6. Is it a camper shell or tonnou cover? I had a lil trouble on my last truck with the tonnou cover. What i learned to do was unlatch cover but not open til im nacked down. Then climb on tire, open cover and hold the bedrail and put my foot on bumper n swing around. Probably helped i was in my late 20s early 30s then too.
  7. I would avoid the ficht evinrudes like the plague. Notoriously problematic.
  8. Old school rule my grandad taught me, that is usually fairly accurate is "fish before the rain and hunt after".
  9. I would say red. Every companys shades are diffrent.
  10. I also really like the blue ethos rods at acadamy sports. I was pleasantly suprised at them for $59. Lightweight rod with fuji seat and alconite guides.
  11. I prefer flouro. It sinks and is more abraision resistant than mono. I fish alot of riprap, rocks, etc.. with cranks. I prefer invisx myself. 10 or 12lb. Whichever i can find cheaper on a bulk spool when i need a new spool. In the winter i will downsize to 6 or 8lb flouro.
  12. How old is the line? Have you tried a line conditioner? Baitcaster, spinnning, or spincast? Was it spooled on reel origionally in correct direction? What brand line?
  13. I prefer a medium-moderate for all but deep divers (12'+) and rattletraps. Most of my cranks are lighter and in the middle of the range on a medium and on low or under range of a med heavy so i am more accurate with them. To me i want a softer (moderate) rod, 6'6"-7'3", but with good guides and a sensitive blank. You dont need a super sensitive blank like you do contact lures, but one sensive enough you can detect changes in lures vibrations. I would also reccomend a lighter weight rod as well, helps with fatigue on my back, shoulders, and arms.
  14. Work your butt off and make it happen. Success doesnt happen to those who havent worked hard for it. Simply make a choice and do it. Dont waste time wondering what could/might have been, just learn from it and apply it to next time.
  15. Got it done yesrerday afternoon. Looks really good and feels good too. Wasnt too bad. Cut hole a touch small and just kept trimming out til i got a nice tight fit, with a touch of rubber hammer persuasion. Only problem i have now with it is that the new white powdercoat makes the 23 year old gelcoat look dingy.
  16. If he lets the dealership do the maintence they extended the warranty a few years.
  17. For anything that runs under 10' or so i prefer a medium moderate rod. For deep cranks a med heavy moderate.
  18. I prefer a medium and fast action. The weight (or lack of) range of those lures normally matches up better with a medium power rod over a med heavy. Definitly a fast action though. Need it to load up faster for single hook lures. Medium action to me is only for lures like crankbaits with treble hooks.
  19. If you decide to part with them PM me.
  20. Who has these? Ive been looking at one for a few years now but thats it. Seems when i research them i get mixed reveiws on if it fogs or not. Im looking at them due to my eyes tearing up when at speed in the boat. I tried old ski goggles but didnt help much due to my need for Rx glasses. I know alot of folks prefer a motorcycle helmet but they take up too much room to store.
  21. Im pretty sure i saw lews reels in the last ad i got from bass pro. The gift card should not be limited to just bps brand items i wouldnt think.
  22. I have not added extra lights, but i did upgrade the lights that came in boat to brighter LED bulbs. Made a big diffrence, much brighter now.
  23. Im slowly replacing my older, lower end rods with better mid to higher range. ($190-250) rods. I try to be very careful and take care of my equipment, and look at it as investments. Each rod has a cover, and it is on rod unless im using it. I have several rods that are 20+ years old and still in use regularly and work well. I just can now afford to slowly improve them with newer ones with better sensitivity and lower weight. I really appreciate the quality of the better rods, the lighter weight especially. I can feel it in my shoulders more when i go back to using an older, heavier rod. I also feel the better sensitivity helps me detect bites and subtle changes better. Both of these make it more enjoyable to fish longer and more productivly.
  24. i do beleive there is a difference between the premium lures and the standard. The better baits do tend to have better actions normally, which cam make a big diffrence in presentation. At the same time i have caught tons of fish on the standard plastics, zoom, powerbait, and netbait being my favorites and confidence lures. To me wehter its worth it or not comes down to budget. If you are grilling burgers for $8/hr it takes over 2 hours to buy 1 lucky craft lure or a couple packs of rage craws, so its a big deal to spend that much. At the same time the guy who owns that mcdonalds and a dozen more making $1mil/year wont really mind the cost so its no big deal to him if he wants them. To the average joe in the middle, like me, i think about it before they buy. I dont make enough to try everything, i wait and see what i like, what others reccomend, wait for sales, and be picky about what i slurge for and what i dont. Make sure its worth it for me on my budget. If im fishing in the boat and have a good shot at getting hung lures back, i use better ones. Bank fishing i stick more to cheaper options normally. What alot of tourney guys i know do is prefish and practice with the lower price items, yum dingers, zoom, and cheaper hooks. On tourney day when money is on line, its all senko, rage, trokar, etc... .
