  1. Im not able to afford Rx costas or others so i picked up a pair of cocoons to go over my regular glasses and have been very pleased with them so far.
  2. Wayne is correct. TM batteries should only have TM and charger attached. Most folks use a dual purpose (cranking and deep hybrid) for cranking since the electronics slow drain it over the day.
  3. I prefer a fast action for frogs/ single hook lures and a moderate for treble lures like spooks and popr.
  4. I prefer 7: for contact/feel lures like work or jig. It picks up slack line quick for increased sensitivity.
  5. Normally i have all my gear in multiple 3700 boxes and ziplock bags. When i go in my flatbottom, pond fishing, and often in a freinds boat i condense it down to 1 gallon ziplok of my favorite plastics and 1 3700 daybox of my favorite and go to lures for the area and type fishing i will be doing.
  6. Get 3 new batteries if you are going 36v. Having mismatched batteries of diffrent ages will shorten the life of all 3.
  7. Im another supporter of the pfuegers and especially the supremes. I use supremes on bass rods and trions on my panfish and crappie rods.
  8. i am down in the orlando area for the holiday week and have gone out with my brother in law kayak fishing in the private lake for his subdivision. its a pretty good sized lake (20+ acres i think) but it is filled with tape grass. i tried dropping senkos in the pockets with no luck. Only near bite i had was a blowup on my frog in the lily pads on the far end of the lake where the tape grass is not so thick. Looking for any tips or suggestions for this type water please. It seems to be 8+ft deep but grass near the surface still. Very clear water though.
  9. Yea. We dont fish in tournaments so when its rough conditions we stay home so im not sure we will need the stabilizer bar. I have heard they are a top notch TM and the best cable steer. It just threw me off with that other customer and i wanted to double check on things before we buy. Ive learned its alot cheaper to do research in advance to keep from being burned after the puchase.
  10. I would also consider a phoenix. In my area its definitly becoming the hot boat. Rides very well and usually can be found for less than alot of others and packed with features. My boss is selling his triton to make room for his new phoenix 920.
  11. I am looking at replacing my 22 year old OMC trolling motor. I have a chance to buy this one a few hundred cheaper barely used (used 2 trips before replaced boat) and was wondering how folks who had it liked it and what problems they have had. Reason i ask is we were looking at new ones last nite and a customer said "his buddy" had problems with the aluminum frame cracking and breaking. I dont want to spend nearly a grand on a tm with problems when the one we havenworks but is hard to find parts for if we do have an issue again.
  12. What i found works best for me is to throw the ripped ones in a pile when im on water. Then repair them when i get home with mend it. I also get a longer use out of repaired ones when i turn the lure 90* to how i hooked it before. Meaning if i ran the hook inline with the seam i turn a repaired one 90* to run it through seam instead.
  13. I would much rather have the power pole over a jackplate personally but thats because of where and how i fish. Top end speed isnt a concern for me since i normally only run 45-50. Once it gets shalow i just come off plane and troll or idle. Its just a comfort thing since its how ive always done it. Id love a power pole for more stealth. Drop off plane n coast into position n drop pole and not trolling motor.
  14. I replace the round ring with an oval one and tie to it.
  15. Most guys i know do it mostly on bottom baits to put a finger on the line in front of the reel to feel the line directly for increased sensitivity.
  16. I also prefer a telescopic one. Ive never had good results with one that slides down line. I usually ended up getting out telescooung one to get lure and plug knocker then. One i have may be same as WIguide mentioned above. It has 5 or 6 sections that extend out to about 30ft total. Means it works on lures above you as well as below also.
  17. For the most part they will hit cranks and other lures like a lmb. They prefer current and chartuce is my go to color for spots, especially worms cranks and wire/chatter baits. Look for points and humps, bridge pilings, tunnels and such all with current. And you heard right. They are alot feistier than lmb.
  18. I built a rod rack for about $20 that holds 11 rods with reels vertical. Im consistant in everytime i finish using a rod (either for day or just switching techniques) that i hook lure into keeper, wrap lure end of line around rod once with alight tension on lure, just enough to keep line and lure on place, but not so much to bend rod. Then place stick jacket over rod. I keep my jackets on even while fishing to keep rods from tangling up since its just quicker to unsleeve one rod than untangle lines from all when you have 6-8 rods on deck.
  19. Yea. Winter isnt a problem for me here in alabama. Actually more the opposite and i fish less right now since its too dang hot. I can fish basicly year round though. Guntersville is a lil over an hour away and goes from decent right now to amazing once it turns cold. I usually make my winter decision to hunt or fish based on weather conditions (hunt after rain and fish before it) and if i already have some deer in the freezer or not. Ive been painting cranks and have done a few repaints for coworkwrs but jothing to offset costs. Im looking to do the same with rod building eventually. Its something i want to do to get exactly what i want as well as an enjoyable hobby.
  20. Over pumping/priming bulb perhaps? We usually just pump ours a few times ti l its not empty feeling not til it is tight
  21. A power wrapper isnt in my budget in the foreseable future. Looking at a simple 9-12ish rpm one and using it with a dowel rod with alligator clips for drying crankbaits and other lures i paint.
  22. Im going to build. Im just having to wait a month or so til after i get back from vacation. Seems you need money to order stuff and get started. Haha. Still looking at diffrent starter kits and lurking a few forums reading up on some things. Definitly will be ordering a drying motor pretty quickly into it. Debating on building my own threader.
  23. Im with the others on using ziplock bags and origional bags. Way i do mine is sorted by style (worms, chunks, craws, etc..) into gallon bags in boat, and i keep a seperate gallon bag of confidence/favorites on top or in my tacklebag. That way the ones i use most are in top and handy for fishing with someone else or ponds.
  24. Ive done it but its a pain really. I used one at a freinds place on the lake since i didnt have my bass boat and the ski boat isnt an option. We rode over to some areas i caught fish before and it was ok once we got set up, just an adjustment for me to fish sitting down. The pain is trying to ride down the lake with the fishing poles, some tackle, an anchor, and keep it all on the ski with out losing it or hooking ourselves.
  25. Id try a frog or swimming a paca craw weightless or small belly weight.
