  1. Ive used my dads duckett and my avid alternating casts with a tex rig over same area and i liked the duckett pretty well. It was not an exact same rod/ setup though. My avid is a 6-8 m-xf and the duckett is a 7' mh-f. Both with 15lb tatsu and 3/16oz weight. I was suprised though. Duckett was very sensitive. Biggest difrence was my avid cast better with the weight but that may be diffrence in rod power too.
  2. After having the carbs gum up over the winter a few years back i talked to my trusted mech. He said for our motor (93 'rude intruder 150) to simply put water hose attachment on, crank motor and then pinch off fuel line right past primer bulb. Run it til it quits and wont turn over. Then simply pull plug on foot to make sure no water is in it and let it go for winter. Since we have began doing that it takes a few min to pump primer bulb to a "full" feeling but boat fires off like we used it a week ago, not 5 months. Ours isna 45gal tank with no access so draining tank isnt an option. As far as fill ups go ive never had a problem with gas going bad in a week. If it is you have other issues present most likely such as a bad tank or bad gas Letting in too much water. We do try and put some marine stabil in at each time we get gas, mostly because we dont always trust wether the gas is 'ethonal free' as it claims.
  3. I got some as well recently and wasnt impressed with the action. Seemed limp and lifeless compare to my normal go to pacacraw. Im going to try them again soon on a shakeyhead and maybe as trailers.
  4. Ive looked at several diffrent ones and settled on a simms. I liked the breather holes as well as the extra length at the bottom front n rear. Its the best design for what i wanted and valued. Wasnt cheapeat by far but i dont mind paying for quality/features if its What i want. My only complaint in it was price and wish it flared a lil more on sides. I normally wear a columbia upf long sleeve tshirt and have come home with a lil bit of color on my neck from the gap betwen the gaiter and shirt on my shoulder/neck. Easy fix if i just spent a lil more for collared shirts but i like the lightness of the t.
  5. Inline spinner such as rooster tail or panther martin. Will catch brim and crappie along with bass. Mostly smaller bass but often large ones too. I do swap my trebles out on some but not all. Ive had better results on bass upping to a kvd shortshank ewg a size bigger than stock
  6. Yea. Better to be overkill than not enough. Either that or check weight ratings on buckles compared to existing ones perhaps.
  7. Tex, pegged tex, carolina, as well as a shakey head have worked for me.
  8. Be forewarned lure making can become an addiction just as time comsuming and expensive as fishing itself. Man is it so worth it though when you catch a nice one on a lure you made yourself. Ive painted plastic blank cranks for a few years now and love it. Working on saving money now to build a small workshop bldg to get into more areas like spinners and buzz baits as well as balsa cranks. Ive been doing it in a spare bedroom in home. Hot lead and sawdust wont mix well on carpet... Like mentioned above i second tackleunderground. Huge wealth of knowledge and experience on there.
  9. Ive always preffered to back boat in and let outboard pull it off trailer and tie to dock. Then move truck. Ive seen several boats float around to riprap and other things and get banged up when left on a rope tied to trailer.
  10. I think most folks do it for many reasons. Some just want the "measure up" factor of having the biggest, others want to beat next guy to honey hole, holeshot, speed, etc and so on. I prefer a larger, heavier boat that requires more power to move it efficiently. The overall ride quality is better to me in a bigger and heavier hulled boat, especially in rougher water conditions. Its simply getting the right tool for the job. Can i run 70+? Yea but normally i stay closer to 45-55. My boat mech i trust completly tells me its the best for my motor. Running either wide open or off will help kill a motor much faster than keeping it at a lower range rpm.
  11. I kept it simple and have a 3700 box. I used a label maker to label each compartment. Makes it easier when getting out a new item for you or partner. To save space i have one compartment for each size hook. Its beeen no problem getting out a ewg or offset out of same comparment. I Pretty much bass fish exclusively 90% of the time so i just keep a seperate small box with bobbers and bream/crappie gear normally at home.
  12. Double check for your particular charger, but most reccomend leaving plugged in til next use. Normally one most they have a fast rate when first plugged in but switch to a trickle/maintain mode when they sense battery is charged.
  13. Most of the electric only lakes in my area are not concerned with the wake so much as the fact that they are watersheds and a source of drinking water. That is why they require a gas motor be tilted fully up and out if water at all times. May be a similar set up there too, especially with no gas tanks allowed on board at all.
  14. so you have the hds and lss2 modules but no down imaging? Sounds like a setting is off. I would look in the settings and see if down is turned off. It seems like i had to turn it on when i got my lowrance. I cant say for sure since it was several years ago now. I have an hds7 w/lss1 and i have down and side imaging. I can only run 3 screens at once on mine but when searching its sonar and down imaging split on top and side on bottom full width onnscreen.
  15. Are you sure its a motor issue and not a battery? alot of older omc tm's also have a 12/24 switch on the side of the foot pedal too Thats easy to bump down to 12v
  16. I put the plug knocker in before i put my rods in on the boat. Only time it comes off boat to begin with is to clean it. There isnt a single thing else in the boat that has paid for itself time and time again. I prefer the telescoping ones with a wire coil on the end. Broke my last one and didnt bat an eye on spending $30 on a new and longer one. Never had great results using ones that gravity slide.
  17. ordered our lowrance hds units there. Were cheapest by $200 at time. Shipped quick with no problems. Would defintly use again.
  18. I am getting to where i use a stinger hook more often than not. Too often i have had good fish with only the stinger hook in them. I have a fishing buddy make my spinnerbaits for me since i prefer a lighter wire as well as can get the exact blade combos i want without a ton of searching. I have him leave a few strands of the skirt long to work as a trailer somewhat as well as they help hide a stinger hook.
  19. If you got the room to keep it with transom saver or similar bracket on do so. Keeps from putting full weight on transom and hydraulics as well as one less thing to do when heading out.
  20. I currently have 6 hooks i keep with no problem. I keep an ewg in 2/0,4/0,6/0 and an offset in 1/0,3/0,5/0. It keeps my baitmonkey at bay some, as well as keeps my selections and confusion (when putting hooks back after a change) to a minimum.
  21. Power poles and talons have their own andvantages n disadvantages on the designs. talons have a stationary case that is always there and drives straight down, and is a lil more compact overall in height. Power poles are below water and extend out some like an outrigger, but are usually taller when raised up, especially in longer/deeper lengths advantages to having a pair is that when they are down you are set firm. With only one often times wind or waves can turn the boat around, pivoting around the anchored pole.
  22. Just cast and retreive like a spinnerbait? Or vary it up some?
  23. Thanx. I will have to stop by wm or acadamy and have a look.
  24. I wouldnt go over the rared spec. Its my understanding as well it is based on the specs, rating, and engineering of the hull and transom, not weight of motor. Rumor is among the fishing community around my area is that they are phasing out all 2 stroke motors in the near future industry wide. I know its already becoming harder to find bulk oil for older motors like ours.
  25. I know some of the lure making forums have experimented with UV/glow paints for a while. Mixed results on paints as well as bites.
