simple jig question
Jigs can imitate alot more than crawfish. It can look like a sunfish, shad, baby turtle, a frog and basicly anything that bass eat. The most inportant thing in getting your presentation looking like the real thing is action, not color. JMHO

Kayak selection....
I'm thinking about getting a Kayak this summer for boating as well as fishing purposes. (mostly fishing) I'm looking around the area of $400, $500 being my max. I would like a compartment to store tackle. (although I could use a backpack) I'm looking for somthing like this: http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2131664&cp=2367826.2672651.2674153.2291570&pg=3&searchSort=TRUE&s=A-StorePrice-DSP&parentPage=family&searchId=2291570 Suggestions? Any help would be great. Thanks Matt

Pickeral
There are some great pickerel spots in my neck of the woods. My friend and I where fishing in Oakford Lake (central NJ) two days ago and he cought a 23"er. I also cought a 4lb bass a little later on. A 3lb (23") pickerel fights much harder than a 3lb LMB IMHO. In this lake we have cought a whole mess of 20"+ pickerel, the biggest 24". Black/Chart spinnerbaits and jerkbaits work the best.

Questions with no answers
Why do people work their buts off half of their life so they can sit on a beach the other half, when it is so much easier to just skip the work part? LOL great thread. Stuff like this really cracks me up. ;D

I thought the spawn was over!
I live smack dab in the middle of New Jersey and the spawns over and gone. Coliers mills was late march/early may, Oakford was around the same time and the private ponds around here where about a week later. Right now the sunnies' spawn is in full swing in all the lakes around here, a sure sign the bass spawn is completly over. The carp spawn was at its height last week.

Baby Rabbits in yard...
My older sisters raised rabbits for years and years. The best thing you can do it not to touch them and try to keep the cats out. If human sent gets on or around the babies the monther will abondon them.

Soft plastics gettin' destroyed
That is perfectly normal. It can not be helped. You can fuse the tears back together with a heated bent-out paper clip. With a little practice you can re-fuse and re-use baits several times. (I just heat mine on the stove top)

How long is too long keeping a bass out of water?
I've been there before. I've cought a bass, kept it out of the water to remove hook for around 4 minutes, slowly swirled it in a forward motion around 20 times, and it released with a splash and swam off. I'm not expert but I say anything over 5 minutes can do them damage and anything over 10 minutes would be fatal. If you bring pliers you can usualy get the hooks out in a matter of secconds (even the bad ones) and in the worst case you can cut the hook below the barb and pull it out. I always have a scale and pliers in my pocket and the usual catch, weigh, and release takes about 30 secconds. If I want a picture it takes around a minute and mabye a half. My first fatal C&R for this year was today. The fish was foul hooked in the gill, and it took some time to get it out. One of his gill string things was torn and bleeding bad. He flopped and floated for several minutes after release then just.... floated. Damage to the gill usualy results in the death of the fish.

This disgusts me...
I think the whole spear fishing thing is awsome! I would love to do that and catch some nice fish to eat. However, killing dozens of fish and wasting them is plain wrong. Yes, some times carp need to be kept in check, but atleast eat them. Mass slaughtering of fish just to kill them should be ileagal.

i need help!! BIG TIME
I was 13 when I joined this site. I never used to catch much but I learned a whole ton from this site and now I'm catching more bass than ever. Read the "For Beginning Anglers" articles, then check out the 100s and 100s of other ones. The best advice I can give to you is to learn how to fish one lure and then learn a new one. By "learn" I mean really get the hang of it and catch fish. The more lures you learn to use, the more you will be able to use under sertain conditions. The articles on this site will teach you what colors to use where and when, what speed to run it at and pretty much everything else. Combine that knollage with some practice and you will be catching alot of bass in no time.

I NEED HELP FISHING IN WEEDY AREAS
Plastic worm (powerbait) with a heavy bullet sinker to get it through. Also if there is alot of surface weeds try a weedless frog. (spro frog) If there isnt any suraface weeds run a RatLtrap, popper or a buzzbait over them and try to call the bass out.

Kudos to Road Warrior
RW has some great advice. From what I heard from him Yo-zuri hybrid is some really good stuff, so I got some. (well BPS screwed up my order and it never came, but thats another story.) He also convinced me to get some Ika's, which I did and need to try. And the other day he was talking about those high end shimano reels with such high regard that I almost took out a loan and got one. Did it ever acure to anyone else that RW might be the bait monkey under cover?? :-? Just kidding ;D ;)

Frogs and Braid?
Mono has its ups, and braid has its downs. But for frog fishing braid is a must. I used mono with my Spro frog all last year and never, never hooked up with a fish. I had hundreds of bass take my lure underwater, I would wait a seccond, then set the hook, and a couple secconds later the bass would spit it out. Mono has a ton of strech where braid has none. Mono gets abraided and snaps easier, so braid is ideal for fishing in thick cover, such as lilly pads. Trust me, 20lb power pro will cut right through a lilly pad's stem. Weedless Frogs + Mono = Missed Fish Oh, and congrats Avid!

Whats the longest casting spinning reel?
Also the air resistance of the lure is inportant. I have a Cover Jack wedless frog that doesn't have silicone legs, and it cast twice as far as a Spro frog that does have legs. They bolth weigh 5/8oz and are being casted on Power Pro. Ever noticed how spooks cast a mile? They are one of the most streamlined lures out there. Ever take the skirt off a jig and notice you can cast if further? Casting a 1/2 big fat crankbait into the wind can be harder than casting a 1/4 jig head. I've seen with my own two eyes what air resitance can do. I think It plays a big factor in the distance of the cast. Anyone else notice this?

Amazing Wildlife Video
WOW what a great video! Added to my faverites.

Keeping a hooked fish away from branches and junk?
Try Power Pro or some other kind of braid (i like 20lb) and tighten your drag down. Dont make it too tight or you might break a rod, so you might consider getting a heavier power rod. A 7"'Heavy with braided line can haul out bass really quick.

When fishing alone?
I fish alot alone and I fish alot with friends, but I've always noticed I catch more fish by myself. If there is a group of guys I usualy end up only catching a few or getting skunked.

PB!!! Thank God For Powerbait!
Thanks guys. I went back after I posted and cought another 2lber. Then Sean_e_bus showed up and I let him use my lure and he cought 2 smaller ones. I think we are bolth going to get some more of those lizzards ASAP lol
