  1. that video is not crystal lake. it is three oaks recreation area AKA vulcan lakes
  2. pflueger supreme are cheap on amazon
  3. check out the Supreme baitcaster. it's only like $10 more on Amazon
  4. some of the newer birds can share the SI and maps between units. I'm not sure if it's limited to the Onix series, but i thought some of the Helix could do it. I'd call their customer service to find out for sure. I suppose the remote would work as long as you dont lose it
  5. I did like those rods a lot for the price but I'm pretty sure they have discontinued them. Cabelas does have split grip St Croix Premiers that go on sale often that would be in his price range. Edit: didnt realize there is a new version of the silverhawk out. http://www.cabelas.com/product/FENWICK-SILVERHAWK-II-CASTING-RODS/2434187.uts? http://www.cabelas.com/product/St-Croix-Premier-reg-Split-Grip-Casting-Rods/1156611.uts? I'd go with a 6'6" or 7' Medium rod in either of the above as they are pretty close to MH in some other brands. I'd lean toward the shorter rod if you are going to throw jerkbaits with it
  6. I have two 5" humminbird 788's GPS/DI networked together on my boat and it gets the job done. I'm not sure the DI is really worth it unless you vertical jig, because the cone size is very small to get the good image. If I was buying new I'd get a Helix 7 or 9 at the console and Helix 5 or 7 on the bow networked together. that way you dont have to go back to the console to mark a waypoint when you catch a fish
  7. I have 3 premiers and 2 Eyecons, all SCII. I also have 5 rage rods SCIII. it really depends on what you are using it for. if you like a more traditional softer tip, Premiers are great. the mojo 6'10 ML has an extra fast tip.
  8. new Pflueger President XT is very light. Or try a pflueger supreme 30 size spinning reel with your current rod I think getting a balanced rod and reel is going to be more important than the overall weight.
  9. BPS is my local bait shop and I think my store is pretty good for our local waters. The other bait shops around mostly just sell live bait and tackle to use that live bait. almost no selection of anything else. I have started ordering some things from tackle warehouse that I cant get at BPS. I also have ordered some reels from Amazon.
  10. really you could go either way, but the 30 should balance better on a light rod like your carbonlite. the supreme's have a higher gear ratio than the presidents, so line pickup shouldn't be an issue on the 30 size.
  11. you can shoot down RT 41 and head into Illinois to fish year round. Sterling lake is just over the border and has bass and musky (no gas motors though). Or you can fish the des plaines river for pike (smallies are starting to show up further south too with all the dam removals)
  12. IMO the 90HP isnt needed on this boat. I have the same boat with a 60HP and 4 blade prop, gets on plane right away and does 35 with two guys. if you want the 90HP then get the 1750 rebel
  13. he's in canada so there's the bad exchange rate and the newer 90HP's are light
  14. I have 30 size Supremes matched up with St Croix Premiers, Eyecon and Rage rods. the new Mojo bass would be similar to the Rage. I'm really liking the 6'6" medium Premier as an all purpose spinning rod.
  15. I have Trions, Presidents and Supremes. they are all good. The President is a little smoother and more refined than the trion. The big step up to the Supreme is you get a much lighter reel that balances better IMO with a quality light weight rod. you also get a faster gear ratio, sealed drag and a spare spool. I use presidents for moving baits and loaner rods. I use the supremes for my finesse applications.
  16. the older BPS graphite rods were pretty nice, but the new blue ones are junk. get the lightning rod
  17. strike king squadron. they are very stout hooks so I throw them on a spinning reel with 20lb braid http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Strike_King_Squadron_Swimbait_Heads_3pk/descpage-SKSBH.html
  18. I'd get a 6'6" Medium Premier. great all around rod.
  19. it could be the same mold but the consistency of the plastic is definitely different.
  20. HM85 is the modulus of graphite, not a specific blank. it also just means that there is some of the high modulus graphite in the rod and not necessarily the whole blank. That being said, Bass Pro used HM85 in most of their high end rods in years past. the old black Carbonlites, Johnny Morris signature series. and walleye series. those were all good rods for their price. personally I'd take a new St Croix SCIII Mojo or SCII Premier if the price was similar.
  21. not exactly the same but I do have both of those lengths/power/action in their Rage line. the 6'8 MH is going to be more of what you are looking for, especially if you'll be in any kind of cover. the 7'1 M is a good rod too but I use it more for light t-rigs, weightless senkos, small spinnerbaits, and grubs.
  22. The St Croix Premiers make good spinnerbait rods. I like that they have a softer tip than SCIII and SCIV rods, which I think is better for spinnerbaits. I use a 7ft MH Premier for 1/2oz and 3/4oz spinnerbaits and bucktails for bass and pike. it also works good as a frog rod.
  23. the "online classic" is after the in store classic ends. just wait a couple weeks
  24. honestly they dont even look at them at my local store. just throw it into a bin and they give you the coupon. same thing with the reels
