  1. Pretty sure all pflueger spinning reels come with a braid ready spool now. I still usually use mono backing to save money
  2. Heavier wire is going to weigh more. I throw the 3/4 Northland on a 7ft MH St Croix.
  3. Have you compared their regular prices to others sale prices? I know they are cheaper than BPS, Cabela's and Dick's but not sure about online retailers. Maybe they are trying to be the every day low price leader like Walmart instead of running sales all the time.
  4. You also need heavy braid to throw heavy lures. We don't need 80 or 100lb test to land a musky, but lighter braid can snap from the shock of casting lures 2-16oz
  5. Minimum 30lb for me. I use a double uni knot because it's easy to tie. Your knot should not go as far down as your reel, if that's what you are asking
  6. I bought a lews LFS a few years ago and hated it. Felt cheap compared to my similar priced pflueger and Abu reels. Ended up selling it on eBay
  7. Try these https://shop.northlandtackle.com/spinnerbaits/reed-runner-magnum-spinnerbait/ http://www.joebucheroutdoors.com/spinnerbaits
  8. Thinking about this more and the terms copolymer and monofilament are not mutually exclusive. Really most copolymer are a single filament as you said, meaning they are monos. But not all monos are copoly
  9. I had never heard of copolymer until I joined this site. Aren't most monofilaments out now really a copolymer? Except maybe stren original? Tackle warehouse classifies trilene as a copolymer even though we all think of it as a mono. Seems to me that most on this site use copolymer to refer to the hybrid or fluoro coated nylon lines.
  10. i've had trilene knots slip on 10lb red label.
  11. st croix's wacky rods are the 68MXF. personally I like a shorter and slower action, so I use a 66MF premier for wacky rigs.
  12. just wacky rig it instead
  13. never checked to see if my carbon paddle floated or not. but I'd still be afraid of it floating away in wind or current. i do have one of those hand paddles but wouldn't rely on it. I've never had any tangling issues with the paddle leash attached to a ring on my PFD
  14. why dont you recommend a paddle leash? I always use one. I'd much rather lose a rod than my paddle (unless you have a mirage drive)
  15. Sounds like you'd be better off with at least two spinning rods. Senko/fluke and drop shot/ned. Casting rod for spinner baits and chatter baits. I'd put your money into reels and maybe one $100 plus rod. When you have more money you can get better rods. The berkley tactics rod would be fine for wacky senkos and a lot of other stuff. Pflueger reels are great for the money. The president XT and supremes are nice and light in both spinning and casting. I think there's still a $20 rebate if you buy a pflueger reel and a Fenwick rod.
  16. Fished in the rain for 5 hours yesterday from shore as I was too lazy to get the boat or kayak out. Caught one decent bass on a kalins grub. Also had two large pike come unpinned after a short fight. Both on a chatter bait. Ended up walking at least 3 miles around the forest preserve lake so at least I got some exercise in
  17. 12lb mono or 40lb braid, leader optional
  18. Since you have a hummingbird, I'd suggest getting the reference cards and DVD from this guy. Really helps you get the settings dialed in https://www.technologicalangler.com
  19. No. For the 1/4 oz baits and senkos I'd opt for the medium as well. 1/8 oz and under I like medium light
  20. Between a 30 and 35
  21. I only needed to replace one spinning reel. ended up buying 3 spinning reels, 1 baitcaster and 2 rods this offseason. probably going to get another rod soon too
  22. 4" kalins grub, manns baby 1 minus, #1 or #2 mepps
  23. If you do get it, make sure you have extra coin batteries for the remote because you won't have a foot pedal as back up
