  1. I’ve done it before, I would recommend your chains have ice cleats tho. Wouldn’t want to back down an icy ramp w/out chains. Things get ugly in a hurry sliding down an icy ramp.
  2. I use the Blakemore fish floaters for my rods after loosing a $300 outfit in the river, thanks to sunscreen on the hands when setting the hook on what I believe to be a big fish, losing my grip and making two attempts to grab the pole before it disappeared to the depths below.
  3. A swimming noodle, cut to size with a slit in it and placed on the prop blades works to protect the cover.
  4. I converted my surge brakes to electrical. Smoother braking, doesn’t hamper backing uphill, adjustable and just a better system all the way around. Got tired of the jarring when the surge brake would activate the braking system. For all the money invested in a boat and fishing gear, it was a cheap investment to safeguard myself, passengers and equipment. Just my two cents worth.
  5. Retired L.E., carry one on the boat, carry when driving, carry when out and about. Have too much knowledge not to carry, depending on what is going on in the neighborhood may be carrying in my own home. Sad but true.
  6. If you go Facebook there is a group for Humminbird tips and tricks. Join the group, describe your problem and there are a number of people who may answer and give you information to correct your problem. You’ll probably get a quicker response from the group than this forum. No disrespect intended to this forum.
  7. Count me as a flouro guy for dropshottimg.
  8. Most definitely!!! They are stronger and to me seem to have a more intense survival instinct.
  9. I wear prescription glasses also. I’m too cheap for WileyX glasses. I wear my regular prescription glasses and bought a set of Cocoons that are made to fit over your existing glasses. They are polarized and come in several different shades. I save my prescription sunglasses for driving the truck and the boat to my fishing spots. Cabelas/Bass Pro Sops sells them as well as other retailers if you are interested.
  10. Well, using the English language we read from left to right. The last word on the right is the most recent word we have read or comprehended. So, a graph running left to right also provides you with the latest “word” on the right of the screen. Just my ignorant two cents worth.
  11. Ssshhhhh! When my wife found a similar item on the boat I told her it’s a new fish friendly weigh in bag.??
  12. Two concerns with your present situation. No brakes on the trailer will lengthen your stopping distance significantly. 2nd, I would be concerned with the transmission in your vehicle. I would bet you don’t have much of a cooler for your transmission, thus the fluid may get hot and you will lose the transmission. As this sounds like your families only mode of transportation I would be reluctant to tow the boat at all. I am sure you were hoping for more positive feedback so you could fish as frequently as you can. Personally I would take the year off and save some money for a pickup to tow the boat with. Good luck with your decision.
  13. Thanks for the update. Lubed mine up too and out of about 10 deployments it only failed to deploy once. Much improved from before the lube job.
  14. Definitely not rutting, bears breed in the winter. I’ve encountered many bears in my lifetime. Most of the time they’re more afraid of us than we are of them but the best thing to do is walk away slowly. Don’t know about black bears where you live, but in the great northwest bears breed in the spring, hiberate and give birth to their cubs in the winter. Take a dog fishing, they don’t argue, you don’t have to bait their hook or take the fish off the hook and bears go the opposite direction of where the dog is. A win for you every which way.
  15. Could you update us on what you discovered from Minnkota support? I would like to know if it is something I could use to get my ulterra to deploy consistently. Thanks in advance.
  16. While you are waiting for your call if you wish you can go to Minnkota’s website, support for the ulterra and it has a troubleshooting guide. Reset may have not been the correct word, it could be a restore to factory settings. Hope this helps and good luck, hope you get it fixed. Getting a call from customer support on a Monday is similar to wishing you would win the lottery.
  17. I would be interested to know what you learn from Minnkota as my Ulterra does the same thing. I cleaned mine up and & greased it, but haven’t had a chance to see if this eliminated the problem. Have you done a reset yet?
  18. Shipped in a long circular cardboard tube, I had no issues, have received two rods on separate occasions and both arrived safely. Hope this helps with the information you are seeking.
  19. Call me cheap, but I go with Cacoons that fit over you Rx. glasses. I have low light up to and including the darkest shade of polarized lenses.
  20. Not enough because there are too many days when I don’t catch enough fish to satisfy my addiction!
  21. Battery powered Drexel? They sell them at pet stores to trim dogs nails. Should do the trick in a very short amount of time with the proper diamond attachment.
