i’m an old school texas rigger and i’ve been using fc for about the last seven years. i love it over mono for what i do. but it has nearly driven me crazy dealing with random break offs, at the knot, on the hook set. i’ve experimented with different brands, weight strengths, knots and rods. but i think i’ve finally found the right set up...for me. 15 lb InvizX and the Shaw Grigsby knot. never say never i guess, so stay tuned

3/16 oz bullet, 3/0 round bend offset shank, 15 lb invizx, worm or lizard fan cast the area out as far as you can and let it sink to the bottom. drag it back with the rod tip, reel up the slack, repeat. move down the bank doing this. hit em hard ?

today was totally different. the early clouds quickly departed, the breeze died, and the heat was on. i caught three fish (including the 4 lb largemouth in the Catch Pics Thread) before the clouds broke up, and only one afterwards. gonna wait til late in the upcoming week before hitting them again. along with the heat, it hasn’t rained at my house in four weeks.

this 4 lb largemouth came off a brush pile in 18 fow this morning.

NC, western piedmont. it’s been in the 90’s and sunny here for the last few weeks, brutal. we had a back door cold front move through yesterday, bringing cooler temps, low clouds, and a nice NE breeze for this morning. i got on the water around 6:30. it was still dark. swt’s, now at 82, had gone up a good 3 degrees from my last visit two weeks ago. there’s a definite thermocline down around 20’. i caught some loners here and there, at some of my usual locations near the dock. catching some but still kinda slow. eventually i did find a few good schools of spots with bait clouds in the vicinity. they were everywhere when you found them, but were sorta hard to catch. those that did bite, spit up bait fish. they were really keyed in on that bait. these fish we’re located off shore, usually in the mouths of small coves, anywhere from 13’ to 18’ or so. i’d just sit out in the middle and fan cast texas rigs, no bank beating here. it’s kinda the same pattern i been using since late July. i caught 11 spots today but no picture bass. i also threw some swim baits. may hit it again in the morning.

take just a few bags of each to the lake with you and replenish as needed. just don’t forget the replenish part, like i do sometimes. nothing like running out of those Zoom greenies when the bass are wearing them out and you’ve got 15 bags sitting back at the house.

retired water works guy here with 30 years in the field. the shut off valve is supposed to be inside the meter box and accessible. whoever set that box did a poor job. i would take the time and install my own quarter turn valve on the backside off the meter box while they have your water turned off. they sell those small valve boxes at the hardware store. that way you won’t have to suffer the consequences of their ineptitude. good luck Catt.
