  1. I use 8ft rods, I use bait casters, I use spinning rods. I basically use the same gear I used in my bass boat on my kayak.
  2. I have, but its definitely far easier to do it standing. I ended up using a side motion.
  3. Scandinavian/German descent. Raised in Texas. Family members far and wide fish and hunt. I was going to be shooting or throwing lines no matter what.
  4. war eagle.
  5. I agree. Being a kayak fisherman for all these years I am always amazed at the amount of people who will purchase a kayak, then set up the "best anchor trolley" prior to them even owning a kayak, as if its as important as a paddle. Perhaps its a river thing and I just don't understand since I fish large lakes and ponds in my boats. For me, bass fishing is moving, covering water, and the idea of dropping an anchor everytime would be a hinderance rather than a help. I have been known to use a pair of fish grips on a para-cord line to grab a tree or semi submerged stump to hold me in place while I retie. For me, its about using the wind, and the boat to your advantage, as well as not spooking fish in the process.

  7. My fish finder or my Werner paddle...
  8. I tried a friends out, and LOVED it. But I could not pull the trigger on purchasing one and went with other brands. I think it was the hundred upon hundreds of bad reviews that kept me away.
  9. After reading this thread, I will definitely say I agree with everyone who has said to move on, and find a new spot. With the mention of firearms I would suggest that you remember one of the tenets of carrying a gun for a defensive tool is that the firearm is the last link of the chain of defense. And the first is always situational awareness. Do not put purposely put yourself in a situation that you see violence as a possibility, for a recreational sport. Move on, find a different spot to fish.
  10. Ive been in the same boat. And I also carry a CCW, and shoot competitively so I really choose my battles when it comes to arguments. Its really not worth getting into it with people. On a few occasions Ive been verbally berated for fishing a private lake ( where I was clearly wearing a guest pass and was perfectly legal ) and did not want to over step my bounds by fighting with a member. Also once in a main lake I had a nice bass boat just roll into a teeny little cove I was fishing in my kayak and basically tell me its HIS spot. That one got real interesting! I just mind my own business, smile and be polite. Life is so short so unless I really feel in danger I stay frosty. Just turn on the go pro so if it goes sour, you are covered in the eyes of the law.
  11. Haha...That and I never NEVER wash my cover..My fishing hat has to be faded, stinky and intact no matter what. If it gets washed its bad luck!
  12. Ill try that tonight, thanks!
  13. I bought two Curado 201's last year. One still functions ok, and the other sounds like hell. Had them maintained of course. Nothing compared to my Abu Garcia stuff...So far, my Revo's have been reliable and tough.
  14. Id try a weightless lizard/super fluke/wacky senco. If that fails, drop shot, shakey head. If that fails, see if there is any top water action on LONG casts. If that fails go home and drink beer/ clean guns. Simple but effective, and its worked for me for years!
  15. I started yak fishing with a crate with plano boxes. That eventually went to more boxes that were marked for what they were, (cranks, jerks, terminal, spinner baits, jigs, ) then when I started paddling greater distances I started going lighter. I just got tired of hauling gear that I wouldnt use. Many times I search whats working, then fish that technic until is expires before I start trying to search again. Now Ive gone to using one of my company trucks and turned it into a "fish truck" and I carry all my tackle organized in a mounted tool box, with 6 tupperware bins with all my different plastics...Kayak mounted in the bed with a T-bone rack, and 6-10 rods and reels in the boat.. So my suggestion would be to try to mother ship your gear, as in get doubles of your different style baits, and keep them in your vehicle, so when you drop the yak in the water, you have the ability to chose different stuff depending on weather conditions or time of day out of the car without hauling everything with you on the boat....
  16. I have a callender in my shop where I keep all my tackle.. Whenever I get home, I mark down what I caught, where, and on what bait...I fish one main lake so Ive given my AO's nick names. I call it my AAR "after action review" Its pretty cool to be able to see what the last few years fishing has produced. I fish twice a week, so its surprisingly accurate.
  17. I really like the Abu Garcia Revo MGX 20. Ive been using mine for a few months now and Im pretty impressed.
  18. Looking good man!
  19. In reality, one can fish finesse or power fishing on either reel. I know guys who finesse fish very small baits on bait casters as well as people who only use spinning rods for everything. What Ive run into was the rod difference. Rods are made for different types of fishing for a reason. So with that in mind, lighter more sensitive for finesse, and more powerful to horse fish for power fishing. Me? I like having different set ups for different things. I use spinning for drop shot, shakey head, and weightless flukes/worms and bait casters for everything else. To me, I enjoy collecting fishing tackle...Same thing with guns and tools, but if you can fish everything off one rod or reel, then more power to ya!
  20. I take three and three... Drop shot, shakey head, weightless fluke/senco on spinning tackle. Cranks, spinner baits, topwater on bait caster. I think the whole idea of doing everything on one rod and reel is great and all, but I think its really overlooking one of the most important part of it. Collecting more fishing rods! I do the same thing with guns and tools....
  21. Ive got a Helix 5 GPS/Sonar and a Helix 7 GPS/Sonar/DI on my boats. I can't say enough for their toughness for the cost. Great stuff....
  22. Im weird in the sense that I will fish a shakey head with a spinning reel, but then use the same worm, texas rigged with a tungsten bullet on a bait casting reel. If I try to use either technic on different rods it throws off my equilibrium, and my two worlds collide. So with that said, if I was going to use a T rig on a spinning reel, it would be a 7ft medium heavy/ fast with a high gear ratio reel with braid.
  23. Last week I was throwing super flukes on a 1/4 ounce swimbait hook into trees and brush. Letting it sink for 3-5 seconds, then twitching it back to the boat. I was killing it on 1-2 pound spots, but nothing serious. Paddled into a nice cove that had a tree top sticking out of the water and casted between to large semi submerged branches. I didn't even get a count on the sink as the line violently went hard left. I reeled in, set hook and started dragging her back to the boat when less than ten feet from me, she jumped and spit the fluke. Huge fish fat football...From my normal catches Im guessing in the 6-7 pound range.. And of course you play though it in your head, wondering if I did something wrong, and I know it was because I was using a drop shot rod rather than my normal finesse rig...That rod has so much parabolic bend, its hard to get good hook sets unless Im drop shot fishing. I just grabbed the wrong rod that morning......
