  1. Alcohol or a lack of knowledge.
  2. All the gear worked and I didnt get hit with weather and no skunks in the boat? Good day.
  3. I also fish senko a lot and I use the NRX+852. Got it last year, and I absolutely love that rod, probably my favorite out of all I own. Works perfectly with 6 inch worms.
  4. I primarily fish for smallmouth and love to throw little swimbaits. Ive been using spinning tackle for this forever but this season I went over to a BFS rig ( Alderbaron on G Loomis IMX pro swimbait rod ) 10lb suffix braid with 8lb leader. Bait casting little baits is a blast and Im very glad I switched over. Considering doing the same thing with my NED rig set up...
  5. Ive been running a Sako a7 in 308 for elk, deer and bear for years. 308 knocks em down every time. But its all about shot placement
  6. I personally use and try to learn different technics mainly for two different reasons. 1. To be able to switch up when what Im using isn't working. There is also the aspect of understanding where the fish are in the water column and using what technic puts my lure or bait where it needs to be for the amount of time that is consistent with water temps, time of year, and bait fish Im trying to imitate to get strikes. 2. The other reason is to spend money and use up my free time looking at said bait on tackle warehouse at 2 am when I should be sleeping.
  7. I carry daily. Glock 43x as a summer weapon, and a Glock 19 with rmr and surefire x300u for winter gun.
  8. Ive been doing a ton of swimbait fishing this season. Its a great way to put fish in the boat. I have run a loomis IMX pro SWB 862 with a Shimano Alderbaron. 10lb J braid and when the water is clear 8lb flouro leader. Depending on water depth I use keitech 1/4 swimbait jig heads and Keitech 3.3's
  9. For me it's mixed. Ill throw a ned and catch fish, then the next day it turns off. I try to keep a swimbait, ned, senko, tube rig and drop shot all on the boat. Neds definitely are smallmouth slayers though. I just think since everyone is throwing them now you have to switch up..
  10. That was an awesome fish! D-shack is indeed awesome but even in my neck of the woods it's not uncommon to pull 4-7 pounders to the boat. North Idaho definitely has an amazing fishery when it comes to smallies... Being a Texas fisherman Ive slowly but surely become a fan of the brown back over largies.
  11. I fish northern Idaho lakes so we have a short season up here. I cant tell if its better or worse, seems the same to me. But there are definitely more fisherman. More bass boats and traffic as well. I fish out of a rigged kayak so as long as they dont try to run me over I dont care, but its odd to paddle out to my spots that used to be empty to find 6 boats hovering...
  12. When I was up in the mountains of California I would love to fish the local lakes during fire season. Every summer we would get massive wildfires. To the point where I would have to wear a dust mask for the particles in the air but it was awesome because our lakes were empty. Had it all to myself, except for the occasional chopper grabbing water to drop on the fires. Had a few up here in Idaho as well. As long as you can breathe, the fish wont care. Happy fishing.
  13. I fish primarily for smallmouth up here in North Idaho. And I can tell you yes, they LOVE jigs! Lately Ive been using the Keitech 1/4 ounce jigs with a big TRD trailer to great effect. And if they slow down, then go to a tube, similar action but different profile.
  14. Ive been using a Megabass orocchi brailest for a few years and really like it.
  15. I throw zoom super flukes mostly. Megabass destroyer Kirisame special with Shimano Vanford 2000. Suffix 832 15lb braid with 10lb Daiwa leader. Short rod for pitching and skipping under docks and around cover works best for me. If I do decide to fish big water then I use a NRX+ 852/Shimano stradic 2500.
  16. Yamamoto, Zman, Keitech and zoom are my favorites by far. But I fish a lot for smallies so wacky senko, Ned, swimbaits, drop shot, and flukes are my go to.
  17. I run a Cashion frog rod x-heavy, 30lb braid and I prefer the fast retrieve of the Abu Garcia Revo Rocket myself. There is something about putting a frog in the back of areas, cruising through the strike zone, then skiing the bait back quickly while scanning for the next target.
  18. OUCH! yea luckily my sons after reels. He was gifted some nice rods by myself and an uncle...With his purchase he should be good for many years... When I started out it was cheap ugly sticks, this kid is swinging Megabass and G Loomis! Thanks everyone for your input, much appreciated.
  19. At 14 my son has really excelled in his bass fishing. Really mindful fisherman. Very proud of how well he has taken to the sport. With that said Ive gifted him a few rods and he has saved up his earning from working summers and was interested in purchasing some nice reels to top them off with. Fishing buddy swears by Asian portal but I thought Id run it by the group here to see what experiences people have had. He was going to get a couple Shimano Stradics... Any opinions or help would be great, thanks!
  20. Happened this morning for me actually. Not the first time though. Chasing smallies with a weightless senko, set the hook and my leader snapped. Hour later wife caught a nice fish, hauled him in and there was my hook and senko....
  21. My rods and reels are expensive top notch pieces of gear. And Im poor, so replacing them is not feasible. So I have reel covers and rod socks for everything I own. Color coded. Just some extra protection. I like using them.
  22. Yea thats north Idaho. Sunny and calm all week, hurricane force winds on the weekends.. I figure heck with it, getting lit up by lightning at least makes a great story..
  23. I pitch flukes with a Megabass destroyer Kirisame. Short and stout. Great for accurate casts under cover. For Jerkbaits I use another Megabass Ronin. Short and perfect for jerk baits.
  24. Ive got a few Megabass orochi rods, and two Destroyers ( Landsat and Kirisami ) Owning a few NRX+ rods as well I can attest to Megabass quality. They make an amazing rod for the cost. My Landsat is my drop shot rod. A fish swims by my bait I feel it. The Kirisame was a little harder to find a technic that worked for me. It's labeled as a deep water or cover finesse set up but that didnt work for me at all. I actually was thinking about selling it until I started using weightless flukes on 15 pound braid with a 12 pound leader for skipping docks and holes in lilly pads. d**n if that rod didnt become my favorite to fish with in no time. its a f5 so it is short, stout and still utterly sensitive.
