I have a St Croix Legend Inshore Extra-Light/Mod 6'6" casting rod that I picked up this winter. It's maybe the best 1/16-1/8 Inline Spinner rod I have ever used. The tip is crazy soft but the backbone is up there with the Black Themis or a Phenix Recon2 L/F. I think the Legend Inshore is discontinued, but there might be a compairalbe rod in one of their other lines. Like I said, the cr721 is pretty universally loved, it just never clicked for me. It really sounds exactly like what you are looking for. I wanna say there is a GLX version of it on eBay at the moment.

I would look at the Loomis cr721c IMX. It is a 6' L/F rated rod, but to me feels like a "Light-Medium Light" or a "Heavy-Light", if you get my meaning. It is rated 3/16-1/2, but will go a little lighter. I bought one last year and it never clicked for me, but everyone one else on earth seems to love them. I have also been on the hunt for a short Light power BFS rod, but have not found much. Megabass has a few rods that look like they would work in the $300-400 range, but I have never found much info on them. I picked up an XXX Black Themis a few weeks ago and while it is a bit long at 6'7", it's seems to have the power and action I am looking for.

I tired both a straight razor and a safety razor. They were both better in that I had a lot less irritation, but worse in that it took far longer and when I did nick myself, it was a far longer-lasting and more annoying event. Then I grew a beard and gave it all up, a Mach 3 cartridge just used to clean up my neck and cheeks last like a month or two, so the cost is small enough to not really factor in. What I found helped the most for skin irritation was using "Nivea Men Sensitive Skin After Post Shave Balm" as my shaving "cream". It was a happy accident, I tried it one day when I ran out of actual shaving cream. It only takes a little per shave and it is far better then any cream or soap that I have tried.

I am right there with you, I know it can do a ton of stuff, but for me the only weight a trick worm gets is a wacky jig, all weighted presentations get a Producto Tournament Worm.

I can't recommend a specific rod, but check out some of the Major Craft rods on ebay. They offer a lot of 2-part models across a few of their ranges. People really seem to like them and JDM companies in general tend to offer more multipart rod options. I have never seen a trailer in person, but I have seen pictures online of guys who build "surf" or "canal" Bikes that they use to cover ground when fishing long stretches of water with easy access. Googling around for something like that should show you a bunch of examples.

I am just getting into cranks and to keep myself sane I only use two colors per style. First I take a bright one, either Chart/Black or Blue Chrome, and a natural or clear color, the SK "Clearwater Minnow" being a favorite. I start with whatever one matches the water conditions, but if I am not getting bit I switch up.

If you do want to color it, buy a fat tip sharpie and cut a slit into it with a razor. Run the line through the slit and it will now color all sides of the line at once and is far less likely to leave black stripes on your fingers.

Intresting, I bought them to run over and around pads as a more durable “paddletail”, I will have to give them a go this season.

I have never heard much about the Mad Wag, I have a pack or two somewhere but have never fished them.

Hah, for some reason when I was looking at the pictures on my phone I couldn’t see that the reel was two-tone, it was incredibly obvious when I opened the pictures on a computer. Yea, I’m pretty excited! I don’t think I have a use for the real, so I’ll probably sell it. If I can get 150 bucks for it then the rod becomes an incredible deal. As I said, I love the IMX version of the rod and I’m really excited to be able to fish it head to head with the GLX version.

I think I just got a smoking deal on ebay. Found an Loomis CR723 GLX misslabled as a GL3, with a reel for $300. I emailed the seller and they confirmed it was a GLX, so I jumped on it. I have an IMX version of that rod and love it, so I am pumped to be able to upgrade to the GLX version. However, I cannot figure out what reel I am getting, it looks like either a Luna or a Millionaire, but not exacty either. Anyone have an idea what it is?

I would pick a MH/F or M/F casting rod, around 6'6" in length. I have two 3 power Loomis MBR rods and I think they are the perfect "Heavy Medium" power and the action is good for a lot of different presentations.

The only cranks I really throw are squarebills and liplesses, so they get thrown on whatever rod I have with me, usualy either a MH/F or a M/XF. I like a faster tip for ripping grass as others have stated. I have only lost a single bass that I can 100% say was due to bending/ripping out a hook. It was last week and I hooked up right next to a dock and the bass went stright for the cables, I tried to turn it too quickly and bent a hook out.

I think this is it. I used to have a pair of tiny tiny Okuma reels that I used to throw inline spinners for white perch. Even with 4lb XL, I was getting awful line twist, I would have to respool like once every 2-3 trips. I really don't like braid, but moving to a larger 1000 size reel and 8-10lb braid was a night/day difference in how everything handled. I still keep trying different thin monos and floros, but always come back to braid for small spinning reel use.

I have like five casting rods with a top end of 1/2oz or lower. If you are willing to buy JDM your options expande a hundred fold. In USDM, Phenix has a Light power casting rod, I have the older model and it is a champ with 1/4 spoons and like 3/16-1/4oz cranks. I think a bobber and fly would be pushing it. It also is pretty decent for soft plastics as well, so long as you keep your hooks light and your plastics thin.

These two are my favorite tiny jigs. I liked the Ecos better, but I only have a few left in my stash.

With a 1oz sinker and a 7'3" rod, I can spool a Daiwa 1016 spool full of 30lb braid. My arbor knot held but there was enough energy left that I was worried that I damaged the spool. That was just a "lets see how a 1oz weight loads this rod" kind of cast, so I was just aiming at a distant treeline. With a few exceptions, a sinker is going to out-distance any lure, so if you want to make you practice more effective, use an old jig or an old spinnerbait if you want a real challenge.

If you want to go more upmarket, the Megabass Hyuga line of rods is a great dark purple. I also remember seeing an Abu rod with a purple blank, maybe one of the Ike ones?

You can buy rain covers for hiking packs, they have elastic around the edges so you might find one that can fit a tackle bag.

I have been posting about this rod a lot latley, but every time I use it I like it more and more. The rod is a “Daiwa DXW Walleye 6'6" Spinning Rod DXW661MLXS” on sale for $45 from ALF. Dispite the ml label and the 1/16-1/8 weight rating, it will load and cast a Trout Slayer about 30-40’ and a 1/16oz jig as far as any UL I have handled. Its got a ton of backbone and the build quality is decent to good. For $50 I love it, might pick up a second one as a spare.
