  1. I’m actually a spinning rod guy, so 2 bait casters is enough for me. I think you could get by with 5 rods. 822, 872, and the 842. Then the two casting rods you have currently. Of course if you want another one that’s a different conversation cause I’m always trying new stuff. The 872 and 822 have similar lure ratings but I don’t think they fish the same at all. 872 handles heavier stuff way better imo. or add the 852c if you like prefer a casting rod for some techniques. and yeah, the vanquish is a sweet reel! I have mine on 6’10” MLFX Legend Elite.
  2. If you’re limiting yourself to 5-6 rods, I wouldn’t get the 821 and 822. 852S and 872s are going to be very similar. sounds like most of these rods are spinning, do you typically fish spinning over casting rods?
  3. When I was younger I always read about the scorpion and dreamed about getting one. I never did buy one. I hope it lives up to the expectations for you! Also crazy you found a NIB. That color is awesome. I am waiting on my reel to be off of back order. A Shimano Twin Power 2500.
  4. Too much drag? Can you elaborate? If the sustain fits everything else you are looking for just get the sustain. I’ve never heard a complaint of too much drag, but I guess that’s why I am asking. I think the new twin power is a great teal and I’d say is worth the extra cost over the sustain. Especially with the slow oscillating spool, making line lay fantastic.
  5. Very simplistic approach here, but don’t over complicate things. 3000 has the T handle, 2500 doesn’t. Whichever handle you prefer get, go with that sized real. of course there are little nuances to each size but you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference unless you are real hardcore. Either one will work. You don’t need more drag capacity for bass fishing, I can guarantee that. Casting distance is maybe marginally noticeable.
  6. Yeah they would be correct. I tend to look more at balancing, and I know my 872S balances better with ~7 oz reel. At least that’s what I prefer. The twin power will also get closer to Stella performance wise. regarding the 2500 vs 3000, another thing to keep in mind is the 3000 will have a T handle and the 2500 will have an I handle, at least I think that’s what it is called. Some people prefer that, some people hate, and some wouldn’t even notice the difference.
  7. To Tom’s point the stradic (not Ci4 which is longer made) is a pretty heavy reel. I think too heavy for something like an NRX. But a Vanford might also be too light, which is why I recommended the twin power. nrx will be good for anything bottom contact up to like 1/4 plus plastic or weightless stuff as well.
  8. 2500 or 3000 twin power. I like something a little heavier than a vanford for that rod. Could also go certate from daiwa.

That’s great Gim. Birds are slowly making a comeback in Iowa. Which we need. 9/9 is fantastic. I’m horrible at shooting birds.
  10. Heat from wood in a house is almost addicting. Had it when I was growing up. So awesome.
  11. I have eye balled this rod in the past, but never got my hands on it. Interesting build with that tip. Seems like a rod that would be right up my alley.
  12. Haven’t fished the 7’1” but really like 7’6”. Seems really light for a rid of that length. Have also fished 1/4 hair jig up to a half oz jig with plastic on it. Don’t typically like the more moderate action rods, but it actually fills that spot very well for me.
  13. What series are you looking at moving into? I’d highly recommend the legend elite/x. They do make a 7’3” MLXF in the legend extreme, but I’m not a huge fan of the extremes. Are you wanting to stay at 7’6”?
  14. Yeah, I’d imagine a 1/16 ned would work. I don’t bass fish much, so I was talking about 1/16 hair jig for crappie or something like that, so the plastic on the ned adds some weight. Of course line would play a role too. Maybe I’ll have to try it out🤔.
  15. Can’t compare to the 902, but have the 7’6” Steez and I feel like it’s a fantastic rod. Maybe not quite as sensitive as an NRX (have the 872S) but very light for the length. Haven’t had an issue with the AGS guides, although only have had the rod for 9 months so this is the new model. The broad lure rating is in my opinion misleading, I feel 3/16-3/4 would be more accurate. To be fair I haven’t tried it with a 1/16 but can’t imagine it doing very well. Have too many other rods that throw a 1/16 well, so no need to use the steel for that.
  16. I have the 872s and it’s great. I like a little more flex into the blank and use the 7’6” steez for baits like this.
  17. Did you get an after market handle? I noticed yours doesnt have the T handle.
  18. I am all screwed up compared to most people. Strong arm/hand is right. I cast a spin my rod left handed and reel right. Cast a bait caster right handed and reel right. And then pitch/flip with left hand reel right. That’s my method and I’m sticking to it! Lol
  19. Without looking up specs and such, I’d say the 1000 Daiwa is going to compare to a 1000 Shimano. Visually they appear about the same. The Daiwa is probably going to be lighter, especially in the <$200 price point. This is all just from handling the reels, not actually comparing numbers so take that for what it’s worth.
  20. Swim Baits, Jigging Raps, Blade Baits, stuff like that.
  21. I use mine for walleye fishing, but have no problems on 1/2 oz baits. Really like this rod.
  22. You wouldn’t lose them any easier if you got a good hook set. I’d be more worried about the hook not getting buried in their mouth. Fighting the fish if they are hooked good should be okay. Does this make sense? Essentially you have to get the point of the hook through the plastic and the fishes mouth. Braid would help this a lot.
  23. No first hand experience, but assuming you have an exposed hook you should be okay. This is a very popular rod amongst smallie guys.
  24. Just for perspective, this is not how South Dakota works. Private property line include water and you can’t fish inside someone’s property line. I assume OPs situation is not the same as SD. Just something worth noting that it can happen.
