  1. Ado and I tried the 3 lakes behind Hayfield High...no luck, we then moved to Mercer and fished halfway around alternating between traps, spinners, and I tried a swimsenko with no luck at all...we eventually move to the small pond near my GF's place and Ando caught his first bass of 08!
  2. recently it's been the rat-l-traps for me, but I like Spinners, senko and fat ikas
  3. Is there anyway to slow down your retrieve on these? I find that a slower retrieve imparts more action into the tails...could just be me...I use the swim senko alot and the vid doesn't show the wide swinging action I'm seeing with a slower retrieve
  4. I've had success on one of their shallow cranks, other than that...nada...I've been lured in by their cheap prices...but not anymore!
  5. Do you think small inline spinners would work for shad?
  6. I'm in if there's a pre-pre spawn get together this weekend!
  7. grats dude! don't worry we'll some biggun's soon!
  8. I tried the Lake Fork Magic Shad at my friend's lake...hit 2 pics to come but I have to say... d@mn...the action on these...WOW...you guys need to get some, the action is crazy, the tail swims back and forth so realistically...I just wish they sold bigger sizes in the 4 packs at the walmart here....
  9. for a second there I thought swift creek res in Chesterfield! lol...I can't wait til they start running the james!
  10. I'm up for it, I've been reading up on it and it sounds like ALOT of fun. Just tell me the time and the place!
  11. Title says it all, I was in Nova this past weekend and went to a pond near my GF's place, it was rainy most of the day (sat) but for 1 hour it was nice and sunny, I tied on the Rat-L-Trap and hit 3, nothing big but fun to catch something! The next day I rent back to richmond (starting up a saltwater biocube...)and stopped by this lake behind my friend's apt to fish, hit 2 with the same rat-l-trap..the second fish was pretty decent =D
  12. I haven't fished the p-line but Power Pro and Suffix are both very good.
  13. I'm not sure if they can really tell or not if it snapped because you were using braid on your UL set up and caught a 40lb striper and locked the drag down vs it snapping due to other things.
  14. @Wishing4Fishin The only other Fluoro I've used was Vanish...and that was horrible =( so I can't compare it with the Seaguar (no gonna bother til I start having problems with the 100%) In regards to braid for me....I love it...I don't think I'll ever use mono or straight fluoro again. I've heard that it does wear the guides down on some cheaper guide material, but I haven't had any problems at all with it wearing my guides down (st croix avids).
  15. Actually, the butterfly peacock was introduced to control the spotted tilapia, which are overrun and stunted in many south Florida waters. Roger Just watched a show on verses about the peacock bass, reminded me of this thread. It pretty much said everything that RoLo did...Low temps during the winter kill them so they won't be moving too far north and that they were first introduced because their main forage was the spotted tilapia.
  16. I used the Alberto knot, it's a modified Albright knot that's pretty darn strong. First time fishing for LMB in the beginning of the week and snagged something from shore, I had a flouro leader on and thought to myself "d@mn I'm gonna have to retie the leader" I put alot of force into it and eventually got the snag free...surprised me greatly that the knot didn't give...I was also using Trilene's 100% pro grade flouro
  17. Yep from shore walking along the path and jumping onto the larger rocks, targeting the eddies right behind any submerged or exposed rock. I had alot of luck doing that during the summer. Later in the summer I started wading into the waters but, I only caught one that was of decent size but I had to wade across the river to the dam that hidden by trees in the back. Alot of small smbs here pretty fun with some UL gear =D
  18. Heya cjbs, welcome aboard. These get togethers we have normally start in the AM...7am-ish and last to atleast mid day (that's usually when I have to head out) hope you can make it out!
  19. Water level was above 5 ft, even though the signs said it was below 5ft with no restrictions, and the water temps were pretty cold I'd say around 40's also, so wading was out. Waders not recommended here.
  20. Went to Pocahontas on Monday when it was unseasonably warm Air temps were in the high 60's low 70's. The water surface temp started off at 45 and slowly went up to about 51 through the day. Started off in the AM with aBlue/black jig, no hits. My local walmart (Short pump) started selling the Lake Fork Magic shads (like the imakatus ones) So I gave the dark green one a shot (watermelon?) It has insane action, I got one bite on that but my drag was poorly set and I couldn't get enough power on the hookset. Lost the Magic Shad after a few more casts to a snag. I tried Mattlures minnows after that, it didn't have anywhere near the swimming action as the Magic shad (Tight swimming action at high speeds for the minnow vs wide tail swimming action at low speeds for the shad). Didn't get a hit on the minnow so I switched to the faithful Swim senko, watermelon with red flakes, got a hit on a submerged tree trunk in about 8ft of water, turned out to be a dink (6oz) but it was my first LMB of the year! Went home after that. On weds went to pony pastures, tossed 2in white grubs behind rocks and into eddies. I've heard they hold tight to rock in winter so I tried casting as tight as I could behind those rocks but no luck. Went up and down the river working a slate/blue flake dual tail grub also, again with no luck. Need more fish! =D
  21. sell em locally! if not, pvc tubes from lowes works well
  22. awesome pictures guys! I'm glad I got to see all these amazing dogs =)
  23. well...I know this isn't very scientific at all, but I've used to top 3 braids that many recommend (stren, PowerPro, and suffix) and they all work just the same for me...the only difference I notice is the amount of coloring the comes off on my fingers ><
